how would i go about creating a mage hunter / disrupter?

Advice

want to be able to remove magic from the field and still go in and slap the living heck out of those foul magic casters.

we are playing in a world where wizards and magic are hated by almost everyone. i am thinking of picking a class that can silence a room and still be effective in killing stuff. if you can fit in demon hunting somehow that would be great. i have looked through that class archetypes and nothing seems to be jumping out and grabbing me. i was thinking bard for the silence spell and maybe rogue but i am all kinds of iffy on the rogue class.

Inquisitor maybe? They get "Silence" as a 2nd level spell, and if you really want to you could pick up "still spell" if you still want to cast spells under the effect of silence.

And as a inquisitor you have "bane" after all, and you get "Dispel magic" and "Greater Dispel magic" later down the line.
I dont remember if theres any archtypes or effects that helps you more on your anti-magic, but you can easily make it a demon hunter aswell.

Does this sound like your "hunter" ?

Addendum: And since its a hate VS magic and such, Inquisitor might fit your theme perfectly.

Liberty's Edge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Inquisitor is an excellent possibility, being good at both demon hunting and anti-magic stuff. And just generally a really good Class. The Spellbreaker Archetype is particularly appropriate.

Other possibilities include a Tetori Monk (grappling messes spellcasters up), a Barbarian (Superstition + Spell Sunder) or a Witch Killer Slayer.

The last only works vs. arcane magic, but it's Rogue-like and tailor-made thematically.

Well played casters are hard for martials to deal with. Really hard. Some would argue impossible.
But, if the GM is throwing around blasters or enchanters instead of optimized battlefield controlling, summoning casters, you can do some stuff.

You could play a dwarf barbarian, grabbing the steel soul feat, plus the superstitious, witch-hunter, and spell-sunder rage powers. You'll do a darned good job avoiding spells with saves.
A similar alternative would be an arcane blooded bloodrager with the primalist archetype, trading out some bloodrager abilities for those rage powers, while getting unique anti-caster abilities.
Throw in Step Up and friends, and casters will have a hard time if you can get up to them.
It's just that smart casters usually WON'T let you get up to them, which is where the difficulty truly lies.

i don't mind using magic. if i could cast anti-magic zone i would. but once you cut of magic a pure mage is useless. so using magic to mess with mages would be good.

I'd say superstitious barbarian with witch hunter and spell sunder is a great take on it and still very useful vs other opponents as well

Yeah, unless you plan on using magic to fight magic (which is probably a no-no in your game) I would go for a Barbarian with Superstitious, Witch Hunter, Spell Sunder, Strength Surge, and the ability to rage cycle.

You want to rage cycle the Strength Surge to sunder spells multiple times a fight.
