Buying Magic Armor

Advice

I currently have just Studded Leather Armor for my character. How would I go about making it, say, +3 to my Armor Class?

Is this something that I can just buy based on Fame? How much would something like that cost? I've seen the charts but figured it would be better to just ask.

Thanks! :)

Im not sure if this is about pathfinder society and i dont know how its handled there, but the breakdown for the pure gold cost would be:

Base Price(x)
+Masterwork Quality(300GP)
+Enchantment(+1=1000GP / +2=4000GP / +3=9000GP)

If its already enchanted you only need to pay the difference, so if you'd have a Amor+1 and want to make +2, it would only cost you an additional 3000GP.

Of note though - you probably should at least upgrade to a chain shirt before upgrading it. A +2 mithril chain shirt is cheaper than +3 studded leather and is equal or better in every way.

Masterwork only adds 150gp cost to armor. You're thinking of weapons.

In an home game? You do as your GM decides.

In a PFS game? You sell your Studded Leather Armor ad get a Masterwork Studded Leather armor for +150 gp (plus the item's cost). Then you upgrade it. +1 enchantment costs +1000 gp and it's always avaiable, +2, +3 and better enchantments you can add later on spending the required amount (for example for a +2 armor enchantment you'd need to spend 4000 gp but you have already spent 1000 gp for the +1 enchantment so you get to spend 3000 gp to upgrade it to +2, if you wanted to go from +1 to +3 you'd need to spend 8000 gp because a +3 armor enchantment costs 9000 gp, also yes, the amount spent is subject to fame requirements unless you have a magic item avaiable in a chronicle sheet, so you need a fame of 13 for a 3000 gp purchase and a fame of 22 for a 8000 gp purchase).

Added to this explination.

to go from a +1 to a +3 armor is 3000gp.
At this point for gold efficiency you can get a +1 ring of Protection Then an Amulet of Natural armor. Both Items cost 2,000gp.

So Gold Efficiency in buying to boost AC is typically:

+1 Armor> +1 Ring of Protection (Adds to Touch)> +1 Amulet of Natural Armor> +2 Armor> +3 Armor=Dusty Rose Prism Ioun Stone>+2 Ring of Protection>+2 Amulet of Natural Armor>+4 Armor

Buying your Items more efficiently helps you to have the spare gold for other things.

Items must be created with the masterwork quality, it cannot be added later (the same as special materials). Magical enhancements can be added later, but only to masterwork items. So you can't upgrade from a regular armor.

Only sort of true.

Masterwork Transformation spell will make a normal mundane item into a masterwork version.
