(without any kind of multiclassing, including VMC)
I don't know why, but I thought the Martial Focus feat allowed you to count as having a weapon group for AWT feats, but now that I double check, it only counts as the weapon training class feature for weapon mastery feats. At least I found out before my campaign started. So...
Is there anyway for a non-fighter to access the Advanced Weapon training feats?
And...
If there's no way to access AWT feats as a Swashbuckler, then what would you suggest I use for my remaining feats?
I'm making a Swashbuckler for my first proper campaign with strangers(my previous campaign is still only lvl4, and all the members, even the gm, are kinda... blegh) and I wanted to make my first character able to contribute well. I don't need to be perfect or be able to solve all solutions, but at least be useful for stabbing things and talking.
So what would you guys recommend? I'd prefer not to do combat maneuvers if possible, I don't mind just doing stabbing in combat, but I don't wanna be terrible at that too.
Original Feat build:
- 1 Weapon Focus, Fencing Grace
- 3 Combat Reflex
- 4 Weapon Specialization (Change for martial focus at lvl8)
- 5 Extra Panache
- 7 Steadfast Personality (to help with Will saves)
- 8 AWT: Versatile Training (To get more skill points... or so I hoped)
- 9 Critical Focus
- 11 Pin Down
- 12 Lunge
- 13 Staggering Critical
- 15 AWT: Focused Wep (1D6 rapier into 2D6?!... or not)
- 16 Critical Versatility
- 17 Stunning Critical
- 19 Spare Feat
- 20 Spare Feat
If it helps, my party consists of Paladin, ranger(trap focused), Life mystery Oracle, and an Wizard or alchemist(he hasn't told us).
Thanks in advanced for the help!

No, swashbuckler cannot get advanced weapon training. The swashbuckler's class feature is not weapon training in the sense of qualifying for fighter weapon training. It neither references the fighter class feature, nor does it use the mechanics of that class feature (ie- the use of weapon groups; swashbuckler has the sweeping coverage of all light and 1 handed piercing weapons)
Anyway, you already have 4 skill points per level (ie- average- more than enough as long as most of the aprty has something along those lines; paladin is a bit low, but the ranger and int based caster are going to cover that).
The only combat advantage you are getting from your attempt to get AWT is just increasing your rapier dice by an extra 1d6. Focused weapon is more useful for TWF of really light weapons, such as kukri. Otherwise, you can do without it, for the most part.
So use those feats for things that give you more damage and reliability in your attacks, such as weapon specialization and imporved weapon focus. I would personally go for a damage booster like piranha strike, but I know that is controversial on swashbucklers.

Iron will. Because will saves are the scariest. The fort feat as well, since you also need help there.
Does Steadfast Personality help at all? Or are there be plenty of non mind-affecting will saves too?
I will have a decent charisma score eventually, but if Iron Will is better and I don't have enough room should I just drop steadfast personality?

Not that it might be relevant to the OP anymore, but doesn't Martial Focus allow a path to the Weapon Mastery feat line, and from there (I think I remember) a feat that gives them their choice of an Advanced Weapon Training aspect?
EDIT
Ah, yes...he did mention Martial Focus in his original post...but what about the second part, or am I misremembering that?

Variant Multi-Class (Fighter) gives any class Weapon Training and Armor training
In exchange for five feats, which is tough when you are looking to take an AWT feat.
I would just multiclass into fighter or sohei at 5th level. There really isn't much reason to stay pure swashbuckler, especially after the nerf to signature deed.

Curses are a big one. They are usually just will with no mind affecting, and they can apply massive debuffs. You can start seeing that spell coming from level 5 clerics on, so it can get troublesome.
