Advice

Hello! My character is currently getting ready for a new big adventure, and that means buying stuff!

To give you some context, we are lvl 5, but we are poor as hell (about 200g). We have no clue what our enemies will be like, all we know is that there will be a lot of exploration and fighting, less puzzles and town-stuff.

I already bought my basic equipment, and now I'm thinking about monster-specific weapons. Some holy water, some poisons and acids, alchemical fire, and silver weapons.

I would like for you to suggest more items I could buy (not magic weapons, since we can't afford it) that would help me in different situations or against a specific enemy. Even if it's something you can't find on manuals, I could talk with the GM to see if he lets me buy it..

Sounds like hearthbreaker, it's hard to advise you without knowing more details.

You can start by telling us your character race, class, skills and the other party member. A lot of the choices regarding equipment depend on that.

Can you afford a wand of CLW? Clerics tend to like them.

Grand Lodge

Without Knowing too much more than stated:

Oil of Bless Weapon- 50gp
Alchemist Fire - 20gp
Acid Flask- 10gp
Holy Water- 20gp
Anti-Toxin- 50gp (Posions are more relivent than Plague.)
Weapon Cord- 1 silver
Caltrops- (This can block a charging type foe and can also be used to set up a ambush spot.)

Another major Option is putting up the 200gp to the group and everyone put up 200gp for a Wand of Cure Light wounds.

There are a few more items you could invest in. I also Recommend buying a backup Cold Iron weapon. Cold Iron is seen more than Silver. I have rarely seen a critter with more than DR 5/Silver. So just blow through it with damage if you do see it.

I would make sure your mundane items are up to par as well. Have sun rod for darkness as it is a main environmental risk at low levels. Have ropes and climbing gear might help. Rope is a very nice item everyone should carry 50ft of.

Why are you level 5 with only 200g? That is so far below WBL I worry for the safety of this party.

You should compare your WBL to NPC's. If it's low enough, your APL should go down.

Although I'm assuming you haven't started out 5th level but spent all your cash?

Here's some more details:
- Race: custom made Minotaur (11 RP)
- Class: Fighter 2 - Barbarian 3
- Skill focus: mostly Appraise, Survival, craft Alchemy

I don't know much about the party itself, the GM kept most info hidden from us since we are not supposed to know each other. From what I've gotten so far, we have a sort-of wizard, a samurai, an inquisitor, a ranger and a rogue. Dunno much about them yet..

We did just start, lvl 5, but the GM decided to give us only like 200gp + some standard equip (backpack and such, + armour/shield and a couple of standard weapons).. We confronted him about the WBL, but he said there is a good reason for that (which we don't know yet)..

A silver and a cold iron weapons are absolutely needed. Oil of magic weapon might be nice 50gp. Don't bother with holy water or alchemist fire. Acid is nice though. Make sure you can deal slashing, bludgeoning, and peiricng and you good.

I would add:
at least some thrown weapons for ranged combat
some simple tools, crowbar, shovel, hammer (brawn and tools can often solve obstacles before you have heavy magic)
Potion of clw for emergencies (pour it down the unconcious healer's throat)

a silver mace
