Ascetic Form + Flurry of blows (other abilities)

Rules Questions

Hey guys, before I get the "dont do that" idea, Im only looking for information on if this works, and what else works.

I was debating building a Magus with a dip into Monk and was checking out styles. If I dipped MoMs monk for this and picked up Ascetic Style chain, is my Magus now able to flurry with a sword that isnt a monk weapon?

What other abilities does Ascetic Form allow you to use a non-monk weapon?

No, Master of Many Styles loses flurry.

It's also worth noting you couldn't use Flurry of Blows and Spell Combat in the same turn anyways, as they are both full round actions. So it's probably not a good idea.

Even further, Ascetic style doesn't do what you think it does.

Ascetic style only works with weapons from the Monk fighter weapon group. It allows you to apply feats that require Improved Unarmed Strike, or effects that augment IUS.

Silver Crusade

You wouldn't be able to flurry, but any special ability that you get as a monk that specifies "unarmed or special monk weapon" would be usable with your sword.

That, but they also both use the Off-hand. So unless you have 3 arms for attacks, you can never TWF, THW, FoB, or Spell Combat together. Ignoring the obvious cases where you can (like a Magus archetype that allows THW use.)

To expand on this:

Ascetic Style requires that you use a weapon from the Monk Fighter Weapon Group.

Monk Fighter Weapon Group wrote:
Bo staff, brass knuckles, butterfly sword, cestus, dan bong, deer horn knife, double chained kama, double chicken saber, emei piercer, fighting fan, hanbo, jutte, kama, kusarigama, kyoketsu shoge, lungchuan tamo, monk's spade, nine-ring broadsword, nine-section whip, nunchaku, quarterstaff, rope dart, sai, sansetsukon, seven-branched sword, shang gou, shuriken, siangham, tiger fork, tonfa, tri-point double-edged sword, unarmed strike, urumi, and wushu dart.

All of those are Monk Weapons except for the tri-point double-edged sword and urumi. So the only sword that works with Ascetic Style and which isn't a Monk Weapon is the tri-point double-edged sword. And as Claxon points out, you still wouldn't be able to flurry with a tri-point double-edged sword.

Silver Crusade

Yeah, I only read the Ascetic Form feat, which WOULD, technically, allow you to, but yeah, Ascetic Style is a fairly weak feat from what I see. Has its potential, but still a little underwhelming.
