Gamer Life General Discussion

If you had the choice to play at one of the two following gaming venues, which one would you choose (and why)?

Gaming house A "a friendly, welcoming and encouraging place to play your favorite game".

Gaming house B "a friendly, welcoming and skeptical place to play your favorite game."

Not sure what encouraging and skeptical mean in this context.

In this case those words are describing the people who run the venues.

Thanks for letting me know it was not as clear as I thought, BNW.

Also, encouraging and skeptical about what?

places aren't generally "encouraging" and/or "skeptical"...

People are/can be "encouraging" and/or "skeptical"...

Player beside you at the gaming table: "Wow! that's cool! How'd you do that?" Both "encouraging" and "skeptical"...

I've never heard a gaming group or place described as skeptical. What's the point of being skeptical of a fictional setting everyone has agreed to play in?

Still not clear what you mean.

You need a certain balance between the two.

You can't have someone sit down with their level 38 kobold psionicist with rolled stats in a tier 3-7 "it's all legal trust me" and double checking everyone's gold for every last gold piece would take longer than the session.

Well, to answer your question, A is a lot better. B doesn't make a lot of sense, and will lead people to be skeptical of your gaming group. You could probably just leave off that third adjective, though, making it friendly and welcoming.

The question posed was not to cause a lengthy debate.

The purpose is simply this. Based on those two descriptions, what would you initial preference be regarding which venue to play at?

GUT instinct. First Reaction. Simply put, based on those two descriptions, which do you think YOU would most enjoy playing at?

Thank you, QuidEst. Could you please explain to people why you chose A.

Reads Thread. Probably B.

Could you please explain why you included the choice for skeptical?

Here is the thing. The vast majority of the time, stuff like this is either a trap, or a sneaky way of gathering support for some unseen argument.

We have a winner! D. Masters, tell Nohwear what the Brain in the Jar won!

Yarp. Sounds like there is a lot of detail being left out to purposefully guide people to choosing "option A" because it obviously sounds better. No one wants to be met with skepticism. But that is probably intended to somehow support some argument the OP wants to make. However I feel as though there are a lot of details that aren't being mentioned that make the situation much more complex than what is being let on here.

I just did. B makes no sense, and I don't know what you're trying to convey with it. If a gaming group were described as "ineffable", "conscientious", "tall", or something else that doesn't make sense to describe a gaming group with, I'd take encouraging over that too.
