Non Metal Armor

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

The Exchange

So I'm currently working on a druid build and I'm looking to the future for armor. I've gone through the list of special materials and found the following...

These special materials can replace existing materials in armor we can already wear:
Angelskin
Darkleaf Cloth
Eel Hide
Greenwood

These special materials can replace metal and thus allow access to higher AC armor:
Bulette Armor
Dragonhide

Besides special materials does anyone know of any other armors that are non metal that could be worn by a druid?

Stone plate and stone lamellar. Anything made from ironwood. Horn lamellar.

Scarab Sages

There is also wood armor, but it's not that good.

Sovereign Court

Voidglass (from Dragon's Demand), quite expensive tho.
Stoneplate is probably your best bet.

Not specifically Pathfinder but 3.5 there was Thaalud Stone Armor

Heavy armor; cost 2,800 gp; armor bonus +12; max Dex bonus +0; armor check penalty -8; arcane spell failure 40&; speed 30 ft./20 ft., 20 ft./15 ft.; weight 180 lbs. This was for medium sized creatures.

Description: stone plates held together by rivets and hinged joints.

Considering studded leather is banned, the rivets may be too much.

My plan is also HAP and stone plate. Especially cool for dwarven druids.

True, Stone armor is an option. The downside to it is the weight... You need a 16+ STR even for a small character to wear it without taking penalties for weight encumbrance.

Scarab Sages

Nah, just be a dwarf. They never have movement penalties for encumbrance.

Ironwood cast on dark wood for half weight full plate.

Scarab Sages

Too bad ironwood can't be made permanent.

Liberty's Edge

True, but if you can cast it yourself it's fine, lasts a long time.

So how would Ironwood interact with 'normal' wooden armour?

Why is that?

Magic Item creation rules state
Spell Level X Caster Level X 2000gp X Duration Modifier

So for a permanent Iron Wood Item
6 X 11 X 2000gp X 0.5 = 66,000gp

Costly, but possible

You could use bone in the early stages of the game. Try to get a +1 on it as quickly as possible. In later levels, I'd go with Dragonskin...and make sure the skin of the Dragon is an evil aligned one. Wearing the skin of a good aligned dragon would be really bad if you wanted to converse with one and it sees the skin...but an evil aligned one would kill you anyway; so it's not like it can get any madder at you.

Dark Archive

If you can somehow get access to Eastern Style armor, you will have more options. If you aren't in an eastern setting see if you can get a book on them and try crafting it yourself. Lamellar could really be what you are looking for. It can be made of almost any material as can the cording.

I also would have suggested eastern armor; but I usually go under the assumption that Eastern armor is a no go, unless it's an eastern campaign.

If they are, your options as Todd said have definitely expanded.

Would using a first-level spell be an option?
Ice Armor

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Leaf armor. Same stats as studded leather (better ACP by 1), already masterwork.
