Product What If Questions

Product Discussion

The flowing questions are about hardcover products that if Paizo would make them would you buy them.

1)A book of nothing but classes both reprints, new, and alternate/unchained versions of existing classes?

2)A book of nothing but feats, new and old?

3)A book of nothing but archetypes?

4)A book of nothing but traits both old and new?

5)A book of nothing but class features like bloodrager/sorcerer bloodlines, oracle mysteries/curses, psychic disciplines, witch patrons, wizard schools, kineticist elements, etc. It would be both reprints and new and no feats, spells, magic items, traits, etc.?

I feel that there is a bit of a catch 22 with ideas 2-5. If they do not reprint material from the Player's Guides there will be big holes, and the products will lose a lot of appeal. However, if they do reprint material from those books, there is a lot less incentive to buy a lot of products.

No to all of them. It's much easier to use resources like the PRD, d20pfsrd.com, and Archives of Nethys than to store books that will be out of date the next time a new product comes out.

6)A bestiary that is all reprints from APs and other soft cover books?

7)A book of artifacts based on real world myths and legends both ancient and modern?

8)A book about real world deities like Greek, Aztec, Japanese, Norse, etc. that has info about there domains, subdomains, favored weapon, etc.?

9)A collection of reprinted material from the player companion line?

10)A collection of reprinted material from the campaign setting line?

Collections of reprints make sense only at one point: the end of an edition's life cycle.

Probably not. I prefer a book that is a mix of all of the above, tied together by theme. The idea of a book of nothing but feats or traits or what have you sounds really boring...there is no real benefit that the one of the various online PRD's doesn't already accomplish.

I could see a book of classes/archetypes being useful, but only post Pathfinder second edition, if material needs to be updated to a new edition.

No on 7, 9, and 10. Maybe on 6, although I prefer the current Bestiary format.

I would buy a campaign setting book focused on one of the niche pantheons (Egypt, Old Ones, whatever other pantheons can be made to fit into Golarion). I would be okay with an extra long book (Like Inner Sea Faiths) but probably not a hardcover.

Ultimate Options: a combination of new feats, some class features that can be swapped out with existing class features (not archetypes, but single replacement features), expanded Words of Power support, expanding prestige classes into full base classes or as archetypes for existing classes, expanded list of monsters-as-PCs, a classless character building system featuring a range of class features to pick and choose from to add depth to your character as you level up, a list of more monsters-as-pets.

1) ...maybe, depending on how many alternate/unchained versions there were, but probably not. I don't need reprinted base classes.

2) Probably not.

3) As long as the archetypes were new and interesting, quite possibly?

4) Probably not, no.

5) Maybe, depending on the ratio of new to reprinted material. Though rather than new kineticist elements I would rather they print more kineticist wild talents...no point in adding in more elements that wouldn't have enough support when already existing ones need more support.

6) ...maybe? I prefer the current set-up where there's a mix of new and old, though, but there are some old ones I like, like the serpopard and the umasi...

7) No.

8) No.

9) No.

10) No.

Would you buy a player companion book if it was devoted to only one class? If you would what class or classes would you want?

If it was a class I was interested in, yes. Otherwise, no. I would buy books dedicated to the alchemist, the barbarian, the bloodrager, the kineticist, the mesmerist, the monk, the occultist, the oracle, the sorcerer, and the summoner.

I have to say no on most of it. I would love to Inner Sea regions updated to hardbacks. Maybe on 6. Would also like to Bestiary Hardbacks wrote in the format like the AP besteries though. I know the Bestiary books would have ALOT less monsters in them that way, but I would be OK with that

I'll preface my answer with a general statement that my 'would you buy them' to all of these ends up as 'yes', not necessarily because of specific desire for them, but because I have all of the Pathfinder RPG books so far, and completionism is a powerful driving motivation on my end. Any one 'meh' book would essentially be a cost I'd 'eat' to keep the collection whole (and is something that's already happened with Map Folios and a handful of other purchases). It'd take either a series of meh/bad releases, something that actively bothers me, or an edition change to break by get-all-of-it impulse. Having said that, since several releases I don't want in a row *would* have an impact on my buying patterns, I'm going to offer a general 'do I want this or not' for the questions.

Overall note: Reprints, in general, are something that I want for the unconverted 3.5 content and do not want for already-Pathfinder content.

1. Generally leaning no. I'm not opposed to new base classes, but I don't have a particular thirst for them right now either.

2. No. Feat reprints I'm solidly not interested in (unless they're moving over 3.5 stuff) since I'm wary of changes/nerfs, and I'd rather have some other things than a book of feats.

3. Yes, though I'd frankly prefer a book of Prestige Classes at this point. Archetypes are nifty, and I like how they've expanded the design-space for Pathfinder from 3.5's Base Classes and Prestige Clases, but I'd like to see more Prestige Class options; they feel sparse compared to archetypes now.

4. Not really. I like traits and want to see more of them spread across products, but they're individually so bite-sized that I think a book devoted to them seems kinda overkill.

5. Yes, but with a heavy bias toward new content. I'd love seeing more Mysteries, Bloodlines, Kineticist powers, Alchemist Discoveries, Witch Hexes, and other class-feature things.

6. I'd be interested if it updated the remaining set of unconverted 3.5 monsters. Otherwise no.

7. Yes. Artifacts are fun. Not at the top of my want-list, but something I'd like to see and use.

8. Yes. Deities and Demigods books are interesting and it'd potentially be useful for making a fully-OGL pantheon set, as opposed to the Golarion deities, whose names are product identity. Frankly, in pursuit of that, I'm notably in favor of the idea.

9. No. I'd like to see unconverted 3.5 stuff ported over, but I'm not particularly drawn to an idea of reprints of Companions.

10. Pretty much no. I want updated books on the Darklands and Great Beyond (and I'd rather have additional stuff in them as opposed to straight-reprints), but in general, I don't want Campaign Setting reprints, even from 3.5 stuff, since the setting-info is edition-neutral.

11. Player Companions for one class? Yes, I'd be up for them and actively excited for some of 'em. Alchemist and Kineticst are my general top two, though I want to see the Harrowed Medium as a thing (and it'd take a lot of space), and I also like Oracles and Witches a lot.

I am all for 1, 6, and 7.

As for 3, I'd prefer a book of prestige classes (and maybe also archetypes for prestige classes*). That would literally be a product that would have me throwing money at my computer screen. I feel as though we a starved of Prestige Classes.

*:Shadowdancer archetype that reworks as Firedancer, for example.

Are there any products you would like a second one for like Advanced Races Guide 2, Pathfinder Unchained 2, etc.?

I kind of feel that an Advanced Races Guide two is just not very...viable? I might consider it, but most people requesting this want a book that focuses on either the newer races or the less common ones. I feel that as a hardcover could be niche enough not to be all that viable.

A softcover campaign setting book that say, focuses on the Dragon Empire Races, or Distant Worlds races, etc Would I think be a better candidate.

Pathfinder Unchained 2...I feel at that point it might be better to just have a new edition.

As for "sequel books", I am always for more bestiaries and NPC codexes. That is about the only thing I can think of for now. Although follow up books, like an advanced Gamemastery Guide that focused on more esoteric GM tools or provided a lot of help with high level play would be worthwhile. I wouldn't consider that a "sequel" though

Advanced Race Guide 2, definitely, there's a lot of new races that we know very little about the day-to-day lives of, making it challenging for people to play them, as well as plenty of races that were only covered briefly. Not to mention a lack of support for other races when it comes to racial feats and similar things. I'd love for there to be enough support for other races so that if someone wanted to build a setting without dwarves, elves, gnomes, halflings, and other such, you'd have plenty of material to work with. Of course, some people are pathologically attached to the core races, so might not do as well, but I still want it.

Pathfinder Unchained 2 would also be welcome to me, there were a lot of neat alternate subsystems...I've mentioned before some of the things I might like to see in such a product. I don't think they need to bother with more unchained classes, though I guess some people might prefer it.

Obviously more Bestiaries are always good...a Mythic Adventures 2 might be good if they can tweak things so that mythic works better as well as providing more mythic powers for all the new classes as well as existing ones, but don't know how well that would go given how many people disliked mythic...

RPG-line Books I'd like to see sequels to?

I'd like to see more Bestiaries. There's pretty much always a use for more of those.

Occult Adventures was probably my favorite RPG-line book since the APG, but I don't specifically want Occult Adventures 2. I'm liking the current potential-trend of other <Theme> Adventures books and have high expectations for Horror Adventures.

I'd like to see another Ultimate Campaign (albeit one with a bit of a Stronghold Builder's Guidebook bent). More buildings / rooms / kingdom things. I'd like to see it fold in some other systems that haven't made it to the RPG line, like infernal contracts.

If we're turning toward other lines, there's several I'd enjoy, but I'd most like to see another Alchemy Manual (potentially with an herbalism tilt). I'd love to see more alchemical items / discoveries / ingredients / dynamic recipes.
