I've been playing PF for a few years now, and I've been trying to figure out a way to play a goblin. I don't want to follow the PF goblin stereotypes though.
I'm creating an idea based on Styx from "Of Orcs and Men" and "Master of Shadows". The game is based on the knowledge that Styx was originally an orc shaman, and upon interacting with the amber of a World Tree, was changed into a goblin. After that, he took up being a rogue and he's very talented in stealth, subterfuge, and murder.
My question is this; Based on the belief that there is a goblin that possesses none of the fears that goblins traditionally have, what would be a good class for this character?
If I'm going for the Unchained Rogue, I'm going to aim to build based on Two-weapon Feint and Crit range boosting.

If you are playing a goblin that is nothing like a goblin, then I think pretty much anything is open, and it is just down to what you want to play.
UnRogue is good. Slayer is pretty awesome. An investigator, ranger or inquisitor would be good possibilities. Even a crit fishing dervish dance magus could be stealthy and murderous. Basically just about any of the 6 level casters would work as well as the traditional 'stealth' martials.
In the 3.5 Eberron setting there were clans of goblins that were basically ninjas or shadow dancers, which was pretty cool.

If you really want to RP a "PF broken mold" goblin:
1. Strong fear of fire (something from backstory, maybe he accidently burned up his whole family as a youngling playing with fire?)
2. Skip the stealthy trouble maker stereotype trope and go more chivalrous or educated and with manners. Something backstory here, perhaps he was exposed to some writings early in his development in books taken from humans during a raid. Something he would have been able to figure out - like a human children's picture book of heroic fables about knights and dragon slayers. Paladin or Cavalier - something honor and code driven?
just a couple things to get your imagination spinning.

The world this goblin is going to be a part of is something more like eberron and warmachine. The world is disconnected from the gods and the astral plane looks like a broken mirror, preventing the regular teleport spells from working without devastating consequences.
I honestly don't mind building an unchained rogue, but I'd like to find a way to increase my chances of applying sneak attack. If I've gotta kill someone, I'm going to do it as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I a game my group and I played in we saved a bunch of baby goblins and gave them to a temple of Torag. That game fell apart but in the game I am running there are now Goblin Clerics and Paladin of Torag running around enthusiastically venerating Torag.
With their bonuses to Dex and natural proclivity to fire an Alchemist is a great choice. There are a few really cool discoveries that only a Goblin can select.
I like Goblin Paladins just because it is so odd. Pick the deity Sarenrea and go dervish dancer feats. Fire good!
But like was already stated just about any class is an option.

Although I like the idea of a Goblin Cleric or Paladin, it's fruitless because the world was disconnected from the gods. It's like Aroden, but for every god, from Lawful Good to Chaotic Evil and every variation in between.
I'll ask my GM though, see if there's a possible way to make a goblin paladin or cleric. Also, an intense passion for fire would be negated late-game with immunity or resistance to fire.

By the book, if the setting doesn't have gods, Paladins/Clerics/Divine Casters can be devoted to ideals rather than deities, and so draw power purely from their conviction.

I'd have to run it by my GM, but he's basically banned clerics and paladins in his world. That said, I know I want to play a roguesque character, so my choices have been wittled down to three classes; Rogue, Alchemist (Vivisectionist), and Investigator, though I'm really liking how the Investigator is looking.

Regarding no Gods in the Core Rule book it states for the cleric and Druid neither actually has to worship one. Inner Sea Guide changed that for it's setting. Reread the Paladin. While it implies they worship a deity no where did it state you actually had to, to receive powers and abilities. How you have your abilities suggest by virtue and adherence to the goals of being a Paladin. So something to consider.
Skirmisher Rogue with a couple of levels of Shadow Dancer to replace any abilities the Skirmisher took makes you lethal. Slayer the hybrid class isn't bad although it depends on what you want from this guy.
The Kineticst is cool class I have played a Hobgoblin Earth guy and was impressed. The Spiritualist and Psychic both offer interesting spells and abilities. The Occultist is an interesting class as well.

I cannot choose Cleric or Paladin because my GM has forbidden them in his world. Those two classes are off the table.
Aside from that, lets break down what Styx can do. His main abilities are Stealth, Agility, Cloning, Amber, Equipment, and Assassination. All of this screams a roguish character with a knack for alchemy and addiction to a magical drug (Amber).

Rogue-ish with alchemy is literally what the investigator is made as. I think it'll do you nicely.

Would there be any issue with prestiging into Assassin later on? Also, I'm going to use a 3rd party goblin race, the blue. It's got some improvements with some drawbacks, but the race favors law as opposed to chaos.

Nope, other than that your alchemy won't progress and you won't get more investigator talents, which is totally your call. If you don't care about that the prestige class is just fine - all it needs is evil alignment, some skill ranks, and some fluff. You'll have to track sneak attack and studied strike separately, since they are different abilities that trigger on different conditions, but it's not hard.
| BlingerBunny |
I had to ask, Studied Combat and Studied Strike seem to work in tandem, though once you use Studied Strike, you lose Studied combat for the rest of the round. I'm looking at a Brains build for Investigator, but maximizing the use of Studied Combat would mean using Studied Strike at the end of a full-round attack.

Make a goblin seductress. Hide her race with
You are a repulsive little freak whose origins are unclear. Your head is small for a goblin and your mouth oddly narrow, allowing you to pass in urban environments as an unidentifiable mongrel, providing you keep a low profile. However, if examined closely, your goblin origins are revealed.
Benefit: You gain a +2 trait bonus on Disguise checks, and Disguise is a class skill for you.
and enchant her chest with
Whether due to the influence of malign magic, disease, or the scorn of the gods, you were born with a troublesome deformity that interferes with your movement.
Effect: You take a –2 penalty on all Dexterity-based skill checks.
to have most horrifying honey trap ever.

I've been looking at Slayer too, and I found something I had to confirm with on the Rogue and it's Unchained version. I didn't realize this, but sneak attack isn't automatically applied when you critically hit. You have to be flanking or hitting an enemy that was denied their dex, to add sneak attack. Which means you can roll a critical hit and not get to add your sneak attack to the damage.
That said, I'm probably going to change my direction and go for a Blue with the Soulknife class. Improved Hit dice, a scaling magic weapon that I can conjure. There's psychic strike, which takes a move action to charge, but it's not precision-based. Though, mindless creatures are immune to it, but intelligent creatures that are immune to mind-affecting effects can still be affected by it.
