Recruitment

With Dark Souls III coming out in a little over a month and my 40k recruitment floundering, I was wondering if folks would be interested in doing a Dark-Souls-Shadow-of-the-Colossus type game using Pathfinder and probably demi-Gestalt for kicks. 3pp will also be making an appearance.

Thoughts?

Sounds interesting. What do you envision the starting & ending levels to be, and do you have a rough idea how long it'll take?

Characters will begin play at 4th level. I'm currently working on the assumption that players will be able to level up 1-2 times per area and I have enough written to take the game into 20th.

I plan on handling things by each area and taking a short hiatus at the end of an area to prepare the next, probably a week or two, so I can set up the next portion and re-recruit any dropouts. Frankly, I'm not sure how long it'll take. I'll personally be maintaining a 1/day minimum posting rate for myself and others but beyond that I can only guess.

SOSOSOSOSO WANT THIS

I already have a character in mind.

Titan Mauler 3/Two Weapon Warrior 1 who dual-wields large-sized bastard swords. I just need the setting info for background and the point buy for the stats.

It's Dark Souls inspired so background information will be sparse at best. I encourage whoever to express freedom in creating their character. Humans will be the only race present, but exotic ethnicities that use different stat blocks are entirely possible. When I get back to my notes I'll provide some more information in that regard.

I will say, though, that statistics will be determined by a characters "history" in traditional Dark Souls fashion.

Extremely interested. What 3pp is available? Like PoW and Spheres of Power?

Path of War and Spheres of Power are both automatically allowed, however Spheres may see a major modification if I have the time. Other 3pp on a case-by-case basis so feel free to ask.

I'd hasten to the recruitment stage, I assure you there's interest.

Haha! Well, I still need to collect a good deal of my thoughts and put together a player's guidebook before I open up an official recruitment. I tend to work quick but at this point I'm not comfortable setting any hard dates.

@The Doomkitten
Here's the short version: the world is in some pooped up squak.

Long version:
Life seems has to a grinding halt. Death, disease, and decay permeate the world at large and the balance has been upset. Those that die stay dead; fewer and fewer rise to replace them. Forts and cities are left empty as their population simply fades away over time. Society is all but on the verge of collapse, even war falls victim - none stand to shed the blood of one another. Not even the land itself is an exception as it is slowly swallowed up by a blanket of obscuring mist to be hidden from the prying eyes of the living.

Your characters stand as something above this implacable demise, for you bare the mark of the Inheritor. Perhaps you were born with it, so judged by your god to be their herald in the face of oblivion? For others it was bequeathed, a remnant of eldritch knowledge and a symbol of all those hopes that rest with you. Whatever the case, you are the last vestige of a dying world. The greatest heroes (or villains!) the still walk this earth. The mark bearer has power to rival the gods and shatter the shackles of fate, it lies with you what to do with it.

Pierce the veil of death and drag to light the terrible things that dwell there. Reclaim that which has been lost. Become the inheritor of a dying world. But be warned: when death is no longer the ultimate price, what becomes the value of life?

+1 to this. I've always loved the theme of the Dark Souls games, and would love to do a Pathfinder version. How, exactly, would a character's 'history' decide his stats? Also, do you have any ideas on the ethnicities you'll be using if they have different stats?

Aye, I do. It's functionally the same as all of FromSofts titles. You choose a background and get a predetermined set of stats. Example:

Deprived
Str 13 Dex 12 Con 13 Int 12 Fth 13 Cha 12

Before racials. Partly to deter any rampant min-maxing, mostly to keep with the source material and make character creation a little more straight-forward. There's 10 arrays in total.

Ethnicities will basically be a +2 +2 -2 array instead of the normal human +2 (with some reasonable limits). Beyond that I'm willing to work with people if they want to trade out more abilities.

So is Faith going to replace Wisdom in gameplay?

Also, how do you feel about the Battle Scion class?

Yup, just a relabeling

It seems a little front-loaded but otherwise looks fine.

Be warned though: I'm still very unsure of how I will be handling magic. There's a very good chance you will not have the same spell list that the class is currently granting.

I'm fine with spell changes. Honestly not completely sure I'll be submitting a Battle Scion when this goes to full recruitment, just wondered if you'd allow it. Mostly interested in it's force blast ability. Might go with a kineticist instead. Or some completely other class that I've yet to play. Decided to go outside my usual comfort limits class-wise with this campaign.

It is worth noting that we'll be using demi-gestalt which grants the character a free Variant Multi Class (including for advanced and psychic classes, possibly SoP or PoW if I have time) so there's a bit of room if you want to play around.

Ah, so that's what demi-gestalt is. Unfortunately the only VMC info I have is for the classes in Unchained, though I do know there is a book out there with options for other classes.

I'll provide that information in the players handbook.

Sweet, looking forward to it.

Bumping if anyone has questions.

Happy valentines day everybody. I'm doing one last bump so as many people can see this as possible. Handbook is 70% done; I'm expecting ot be able to open recruitment within the next three days.

Awesome!

Still interested!

Dot me reeeeeeeeally interested (both for DS3 release and this game).

Will be waiting further info!
