Meh. I've known it was in the works. I had mentally steeled myself to the task.
The ride with the van was particularly surreal. Luckily I have a CDL license and experience driving an awkward vehicle in busy city traffic. Still the CT-NJ corridor was a trip to navigate around midnight on a Saturday
And thank the FSM I go to the gym!!!! Those books. *smdh*. I had to lug them twice in a weekend. No mas. I'm selling off my RPG collection

I was thinking of donating very nearly my entire game book collection to an Armed Services support group that ensures the troops get their paws on some gaming materials to while away dull time. I've lost track of the one since it's been a little while ... okay, a few years since I initially checked into doing this. The plan is to take advantage of the spouse being out-of-town for a few days in mid-October. Either they're getting donated or they're getting put out for recycling to pick up. Whichever result they're going away.
Anyone have any ideas on whom would be the best one to donate this stuff to, or should I just plan to pile a bunch of books at the curb?

I missed this question earlier:I feel like I rolled back a couple weeks into summer. September Washington/Alexandria felt like mid August to my New England senses. It has been cool in the mornings though.
I think I'm coming at a good time as I'm still in summer mode, and I think I will be acclimated nicely by the time it gets hot again.
On a side note Rags: if you ever get an Instagram or Facebook account let me know. I'll be posting my photographic record of the area. I'm hoping to do a lot of weekend travels, including a visit to the reclusive Mairkurion.
Yeah, it's been downright pleasant down south here in Lousy-Anna as well. Also likely due to all teh craziness going on around us!
First time in a few years that my daughters bday (or or at least her party) has not had to be canceled/rescheduled due to a hurricane in almost 12 years! Hazard of being born in Hurricane season down here I reckon.FYI- I DO have a Face-space account now. (I just never check it) :P

Then they are going to check the news again and, assuming the course hasn't changed, consider heading east to my step-mother's sister's place in SC.Just talked to my dad (lives just north of Sarasota FL) and he is already in Georgia now. They were not expecting a big hit from Irma, but now the path has changed. He woke up this morning, checked the news, then woke up the rest of the family and said "We have to leave right now." Please oh please don't curb them. Just take them to your LGS and give them away there. Someone might buy them or the shop might eBay them, but don't curb 'em!

If you have a Saint Vincent DePaul, they can always use cool stuff to sell, and they're a good cause.
Or take them to Goodwill. You can get a tax credit for them.

The LGSs are basically defunct locally. The few that remain don't have that kind of space. My local Goodwill doesn't take most "oddly shaped books" (although that may have been the employees). The tax credit is minuscule.
St Vincent de Paul does have a local chapter not too far off. Sounds like the most likely solution, thanks!
Heck, put an ad in the local paper stating you're giving them away for free. Most newspapers don't charge a fee for advertising free things and you might get some responses that way.

To be brutal on myself about it, not too long ago I could tell you from memory every single item in my collection.
The realization that I could no longer do so is a huge impetus. It's one thing to not know what all is in the vudu movie library (1,500 titles not counting TV series) ... it's another when my hobby of 35+ years has become so unwieldy and cumbersome that measures are required.
I guess this is a symptom of a 'mid-life crisis' of sorts that started about a year ago. I've come to greatly value comfort, convenience and relaxation space far more than piles of stuff. Having piles of digital stuff makes things so much easier since it doesn't require physical piles of stuff to have all of the stuff.
My wife is not a fan of the idea of junking all of the stuff that isn't worth keeping - of which at least half of the totality of physical stuff we have right now easily qualifies as - to get a nice comfy cottage. So I bide my time and act upon my stuff. It'll greatly alleviate that portion of unending stress, making for a happier Mad Comrade.
A couple of years ago I made mention getting rid of my nearly 600 vinyl albums and all my unused D&D stuff. My son flipped out and said that was "his legacy". Which is true. I have nothing else to leave behind when I pass so I guess I'll hang to everything.

I don't have to worry about that at present. I will keep some things, just in case we get lucky in 2018.
My wife would concur with you about the vinyl - she's called dibs and made it explicitly clear to her entire family on her dad's extensive collection.
Mental note: get an awesome record player for the Missus when the time comes. I do miss records and laser discs.
I've got a pretty good USB turntable that I can listen to my stuff through my computer speakers with. I have a decent Altec-Lansing set of computer speakers so I'm pretty content with what I have.

I'm fine. Buddha was right. Attachment is pain. In my case, back pain, lol

I think they are, but the invites are approved pretty quick. A man named Chris Hinson runs one called RPG Auctions, which I have used to good effect. I have seen few complaints from anyone on the site, and a lot of stuff goes on sale weekly.
