The Silver Shields need you!

Recruitment

101 to 150 of 167 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | next > last >>

There are a few "important" NPC's listed under the campaign tab. If you would prefer to have your backstory involve one of them besides the leader of the Silver Shields thats fine too

Pretty solid for a Hyde Alchemist.

Wealth: 3d6*10+800=880.

The trait accelerated drinker. Will it also apply to extracts in your game since they are essentially potions?

Yeah it would work with extracts.... dont see why it shouldnt.

I agree, it's just not explicit so I had to ask...

This is the Inquisitor from Mark_Twain007 rolling for my HP

Do the same rules apply to Animal Companion HP?

Yes, same rules apply to your animal companion

As it turns out, the character I want to try needs better wisdom and dex. Should I make the second roll or do you do that DM The nines?

you can make it

Can you check over my background. Is my bit about the Dark Tapestty incorrect? Should I leave it more "open ended or loose"

What if a non spell user wanted to make magic items. The Feat Master Craftsman would it still be available and if so how would it work.

I've always liked the flavoring of Magic can come from craftsmanship.

Ill finish up Dharkantia's write up soon.

Okay. Nope.

Time to adjust the character idea a bit.

Just need to finish up equipment and backstory.

btw, I keep forgetting to ask, "type of game" is more specific than pathfinder, or 3.5, etc... right? XD

Care to give an example of a category to prefer?

edit: Also I'm pretty sure I've finished all the formatting I want to do for his profile page, Obviously we still need to hammer out that conjurer school thing if Frank is chosen, but I suppose we ought to wait until the recruitment is finished before we figure out all those details...

Shadow Lodge

Interested in getting in on this. Is there still time? I'm thinking of a Monk or something of that bent.

Applications end next Friday, Applicants have until Saturday night to finilize their submissions, Sunday will be the selection day, and hope to start the Monday or Tuesday.

Did I miss anything?

I'm coming up with backstory as we speak. Sorry to have double posted. I'm fairly certain I'm going Human Monk, but that might change in a bit. I'll clock in tomorrow sometime to see if I'm actually OK to join.

Edit: Well that was faster than expected. Thanks for responding so quickly. :) I'll be right on it.

By type of game I meant

Does you enjoy exploration? Do you prefer Combat heavy or Combat lite?
Do you enjoy the roleplaying over the tatical combat? Are you an acquistion of treasure sort of player (ie its not what you fight or how you fight it, but man I want the loots!)

If you have experiance in other kind of games feel free to list that too. Its more so i can try and gauge the amount of what to put into the game, pacing of the module (missions) and the like and see expectations.

I dont want to run combat heavy if everyone prefers combat lite and rp etc. . .

Shadow Lodge

Personally I can swing either way on combat, I usually prefer less combat and less tactical decisions, but my stat array is telling me otherwise. I definitely want more roleplay opportunities from an RPG than anything else, but the rest is sort of up in the air for me. I'll sound out if I think of anything else.

Is there much else involved in the story thus far? I'm just trying to see what sort of people would befriend our good sir Binderbook. I'll be looking in the Druma wiki page, let me know if anything else is relevant.

The Silver Shields are were a small mercenary group led by the Halfling paladin Colewin Binderbook. After several successful ventures they hit it big working with a merchant from Druma whom rewarded them not only with Wealth but with a plot of land outside of Micridi. Now a bit older and wiser the company he formed began to accept younger recruits, training them on how to survive the rigors of the mercenary life.

Essentially they became brokers for younger more eager members. Thats where you come in, you are one of those young members looking to follow in your mentors footsteps so to speak. There honestly isnt a lot on the Druma Wiki page that might help, The majority of your missions will probably take place in neighboring lands as it is anyway. I hope that helps.

Shadow Lodge

Okay thanks, so its pretty fluff lite to begin with and we'll felsh it out as we go, is the gist I'm getting. So its possible for someone following a monastic tradition half-way across the world to find themselves working with/for the Silver Shields. Not that that is the back story I am interested in, but its a possibility, correct?

I don't want to put words in the DM's mouth, (and please correct me if I'm wrong) but I'm pretty sure as long as you tie the backstory to an important silver shield member (from the info page) it should be OK...

"Tie your backstory to sir Binderbook, he's awesome."

dot

2d4 + 10 ⇒ (1, 4) + 10 = 15
2d4 + 10 ⇒ (4, 4) + 10 = 18
1d6 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
1d6 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
14 - 1d6 ⇒ 14 - (3) = 11
14 - 1d6 ⇒ 14 - (3) = 11

yea, I can work with this...

thinking a ranger or slayer.

I see... I guess I have a slight preference for tactics, but all those things sound good xD

except the treasure, I hope to make the best lewt myself :P
Which reminds me, are we doing dynamic crafting? It seemed kool

Feliks needs his money and equipment sorted, then he is ready. Background and description are up.

Background, TL:DR version:

He was a scribe's apprentice in Cheliax until he killed his cruel master. Allura and Colewin saved him from execution and took him out of Cheliax. They placed him with a much kinder scribe as an apprentice. Allura checked on him many times over the years. When she offered him the chance to join the Silver Shields, he did not hesitate.

I too would like to make much of my own stuff, and if allowed, would like to use dynamic crafting.

EDIT: I would also like to sort out what alterations we will make to the non-psionic half-giant.

HP for 2nd lvl: 1d8 ⇒ 8.

:) good enough.

EDIT: Money and equipment is done.

I would like to obtain or build a portable writing desk. Basically a water-tight case similar to a scroll box that has a slightly angled top to hold a paper with a place to hold ink vials and inkpens.

I'll respond to all the questions tomorrow, had some issues with my back all weekend and was medicated. had to catch up on work stuff today.

Glad to hear you are doing a bit better today.

That's unfortunate, glad to read that all in past tense ^_^

Shadow Lodge

I'm still alive too. I'm not completely certain I can make the deadline, though. We'll see.

EDIT: I forgot to add: I'm planning on using the Unchained Monk instead so here's the new HP roll.

1d10 ⇒ 3

So I'll take 6 instead.

Maybe I can help :-D

If the crunch isnt quite finished I can work with that about completion. Certainly the rp aspects need to be there though.

I'll get back to you on the cost of the portable scribing desk I cant imagine it would cost much nor be hard to make/acquire. Im looking into suitible things to trade out for the psionic stuff but do you have any ideas or requests I will totally look into them if you do.

Shadow Lodge

This might be a good place to look for the Half Giant. The Half-Cave Giant and Half-Stone Giant made me think of Feliks, although the Half-Fire Giant or Half-Cloud Giant is probably the most mechanically powerful in his case. If you're looking to do your own homebrew, then the rules for Creating New Races would also be helpful.

I'm just struggling with backstory because I feel like I have so little to go on. I've got a full build (Unchained Monk is really easy to build for) but I may want to change it depending on how I decide my backstory goes. I've got time to work on it today, so I'll have an answer sometime soon.

For bare bones backstories I had a few ideas, but none of them felt interestingFresh enough for me. If someone wouldn't mind being a sounding board that might help. These are a few of the ideas I had, but maybe with some input I can pick one and flesh it out. Or maybe something completely different.

Bare-Bones Backstory list:

  • Raised as an attack dog for a Chelish nobleman, escaped and fell in with the Silver Shields as a way to make money.
  • Born poor and part of a struggling resistance in Cheliax, he learned to fight without conventional arms. As he grew older he became disillusioned with the resistance and tried to strike out on his own as a vagabond bodyguard.
  • Taken from an early age to be trained as a killer for Druma's Mercenary league. Though the programming should have made him heartless, his first time in the field proved to be a painful reminder of a past he didn't realize he had. He escaped in the chaos of battle, took off his Black Jacket and never looked back. (Might not be workable; the Mercenary League would likely be looking to repossess their soldier and it would be too easy to find in their own country, unless they were busy with something else and deemed him less valuable. Also, Star Wars)
  • A classically schooled but bull-headed Monk, born from privilege. Fled from his homeland in the far east after beating another noble within an inch of death.
  • After fleeing from his burning village as a small child, he he was rescued from being swallowed by the forest by the Hermit who lived there. The hermit allowed him to stay, but forced him to work and undergo rigorous physical conditioning to earn his keep. After years of living with him, the Hermit would begin to teach him his lost Art. Following his death, the young pupil is still visited and guided by the spirit of his dead master. He used his survivalist skills and Martial Arts as a guide through the treacherous Isger trails when he finally met the Silver Shields.
  • A talented martial artist who quickly outgrew the monks who taught him. He left the Monastery to seek out stronger opponents and perfect his abilities. Very arrogant, very vain, despite his training.

Thanks for reading!

I really like the second one, especially since the silver shield was founded by a paladin's team; I guess the resistance wasn't righteous enough? xD
The hermit one would also probably work very well. :3

This still open for recruitment? Making a barbarian possibly.

Str: 2d4 + 10 ⇒ (4, 2) + 10 = 16
Con: 2d4 + 10 ⇒ (2, 3) + 10 = 15
Dex: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Wis: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Int: 14 - 1d6 ⇒ 14 - (5) = 9
Chr: 14 - 1d6 ⇒ 14 - (4) = 10

That will do very nicely. Also, I think I'd like to utilize one of those half-giant races Kubular posted about. Is Half-Hill-Giant alright?

Half-Hill-Giant
+2 Constitution, +2 Strength, –2 Intelligence: Half-hill-giants are tough and strong, but not too bright.
Fearsome Grimace: Half-hill-giants are naturally intimidating creatures. Half-hill-giants gain a +4 racial bonus on Intimidate checks and Intimidate is always a class skill for them. In addition, half-hill-giants gain the Intimidating Prowess feat as a bonus racial feat.
Large Hands: Half-hill-giants have remarkably large hands for their size, allowing them to catch projectiles thrown at them. Half-hill-giants gain Rock Catching and Rock Throwing as racial traits. The half-hill-giant is treated as Large size for these abilities. In addition, half-hill-giants receive a +2 racial bonus on grapple checks.
Removed: Fire Acclimated, Naturally Psionic, Half-Giant Psionics, and Psionic Aptitude.

Its more like the resistance was just not viable. Or at least, [Monk] wouldn't think so. Too many sacrifices for too little results. Their morality would have little to do with it for him. He's probably Lawful Neutral by now; he dipped when they kind of needed him. Plus, Binderbook is a Paladin of Abadar, who are more well-known for their Lawful-ness over Good-ness. Still good, but it feels like a Lawful Neutral type would get along with him just as well as a Lawful Good type.

I liked the Hermit as I wrote it, but its such a cliche Kung-fu movie type thing. I could probably write it a bit differently, but I'm still not confident with it.

My initial choice was the First OrderMercenary League one, but after taking a step back from it, I realized I had just seen this story which was probably influencing my writing. Then again, it might be cool to explore the local politics of Druma through it. The part where there is not exactly a dictatorship would also be different.

I just had an idea for a second generation Hermean seeking to learn from the outside world; a pilgrimage of sorts. Trying to decide whether his homeland is really the utopia it claims to be. A little less dark, he'd be innocent to the ways of the world for the most part. Grapples and nonlethal approaches would be his go-tos for combat. 8 Charisma makes it a little difficult to pull off, but you can't have everything.

Or he could be one of the unlucky Banished members of Hermea. He'd be bitter, but it would be ten years ago, and time heals many wounds.

@Zayne Iwatani
We'll see. Happy to see someone jumping on my suggestions already though!

Going to be a little strapped for feats but I want to utilize Catch Off Guard, Throw Anything, and improved grapple as well as the barbarian rage powers Body Bludgeon and Hurler. I want him to beat people up with other people.

Personality wise he will be a gentle giant most of the time with some anger issues. Righteous anger that is. Also incredibly stupid but surprisingly insightful from time to time.

Also, normal or unchained barbarian. I think I prefer normal since +4 to strength improves a number of other things rather than just attack and damage.

Shadow Lodge

I agree with going normal Barbarian. Unchained rage powers are a mere "sidegrade" and Unchained Rage itself is an obvious disadvantage. I can't say that Body Bludgeon is a great or even good Rage Power. I'm personally of the opinion that as long as it is under your light load you should be able to wield it as an improvised melee weapon, no feat/rage power tax required. That aside, since there is no other codified option for throwing other creatures as weapons, nothing stops you from doing so using Throw Anything, unless the GM is uncomfortable with it.

Also make sure to get the Surprise Weapon trait. Very good for you, especially since you can't enhance improvised weapons per RAW.

Hey so I know that I am pretty late to recruitment but I just read through the thread and thought that it sounded awesome. Really liked the crafting element to it. So I wrote up a bio and decided to give it a go.

STR: 10 + 2d4 ⇒ 10 + (3, 4) = 17
DEX: 10 + 1d6 ⇒ 10 + (1) = 11
CON: 10 + 2d4 ⇒ 10 + (4, 1) = 15
INT: 10 + 1d6 ⇒ 10 + (2) = 12
WIS: 14 - 1d6 ⇒ 14 - (3) = 11
CHA: 14 - 1d6 ⇒ 14 - (6) = 8

Here is the example for a post, it kind of picks up where my bio leaves off if you read it.

So many people and many dressed like they were ready to fight. Sure John had his ax and hatchet and a few tools in his pack, and he probably could take any of these men in a fist fight but John realized that he was very ill prepared and so he set out get the gear he needed and he decided that the first thing he needed was a new ax and a shield. A shield he could make, just needed the right tree and a bit of time at a workbench but an ax?

Well I guess that's what all this money is for better find a weaponsmith. John mumbled to himself And a pub, need to find a pub this headache is killing me. Like someone was trying to chop into my skull last night.

John shook is head vigorously, which only made things worse, and set out to find a drink, a Smith, and a tree. In that order.

Shadow Lodge

I think I'm going to bow out this time. Have fun everyone!

No worries have good travels and see you in other games perhaps!

Yay or nay on the Half Hill Giant?

I am good with combat or rp, or vice-versa. A mix would be good, but as long as the group as a whole i having a good time :)

My type of post,

Katja, sitting at a table towards the back, sees a man walk in with a pack on his back. She studies him, trying to gauge what his strengths and weaknesses may be. Satisfied, that it is just another man wanting a drink, much like her, she heads over to the man.

Howdy sir, looking up to John Logger as she does nearly all people she meets. I see you have a pack on you. Do you chance need any help fitting the pack better to your frame. I made this myself, took a few weeks to get it right after a couple blunder, I won't lie., she lets the man hold the pack, and see its fine craftsmanship if he would like.

I would be happy to make you a similar pack if you are interested, for a small fee for materials of course. It would cost you nearly 50 gold if not more. I could make you one for the small cost of 40 gold

Pretty sure the GM is picking characters this weekend, so I wanted to wish us all good luck. May the junior members of the Silver Shields be a fearsome band of able-bodied heroes!

Or perhaps even a vicious band of able-bodied little-people! I think we've got like 7 small race characters in here...

Let's go wee folks!!!
