Interest Check: Crypt of the Everflame

Recruitment

Every year when the leaves begin to fall, the small town of Kassen conducts a rite of passage in which it sends a band of young, would-be adventurers to the abandoned crypt of the town founder to recover the Everflame, a magical fire that is kept burning throughout the winter. Each year the youths' mettle is tested by traps, illusory monsters, and other challenges before returning home to a festival honouring their coming of age. But this year … things are more complicated.

Hi. I haven’t GM’d PbP before, so I’m proposing to run this venerable Level 1 module if enough (4-6) people are interested. If it goes well, we can run through the rest of the story arc (Mask of the Living God and City of Golden Death) and see where we get to. If things do work, I’d be more than happy to run a long tour of Pathfinder modules right up to higher levels.

At this point, just checking interest.

Intended requirements/constraints:

  • Expect to post at least once a day, preferably more often, but with allowances made for weekends; if there is an extended break I may run your character (or ask another player to do so) to move things along.
  • All characters begin at level one.
  • 20-point ability buy.
  • No evil alignments.
  • No third party content
  • Races/Classes: The module, as written, serves core classes/core races (and the town in which it's set, and from which the party is largely expected to have come, reflects this). My preference would be to go with that, but if required would stretch to something more exotic if it could be justified.
  • Archetypes fine as long as they can be justified within the background
  • Two traits.
  • Average gold for your class.
  • Max HP at level one, roll or 1/2 HD + 1 thereafter.
  • Brief (1-2 para) back story to link your character to the scenario background. When we get into actual recruitment I have a bunch of handouts paraphrasing the module notes (and removing spoilers), from running the scenario IRL, that I would post up to help with this

As I say, just checking for interest at this point.

Definitely interested in this. Sounds like a blast, and I prefer this chained-together approach to one-offs. :)

Dot, interested!

Absolutely, i've been trying to get into this arc for a while now. as such i have pretty much everything for the character done already. So i'm ready for recruitment with everything already

I do need to know if Oracle would be allowed, it works well with the character. if not no problem i have a backup build using sorcerer and eldritch knight

Consider me interested! I'm new to the site, but I'm fairly experienced in Pathfinder. Sounds like a fun campaign!

Scarab Sages

A friend of mine and I have an idea for a pair of characters that are twin sisters. This would be perfect. Very interested!

Interested.

It looks like there probably is enough, will enable this for recruitment tomorrow (I am usually in either GMT or CET time zone at the moment btw).

@Illya: if it comes down to a question of preference and to choosing party members, I'd prefer core over non-core, simply as it's less work. Also as you'll see the back story links the questing party to "mentors" in the town (I'll post this background up tomorrow also); due to the vintage of the module, these are all core. If it comes to it I can adjust but my preference would be core race, core class and back story linked to the module background. (TL;DR Sorcerer would probably work better than Oracle, I would wait for the background info before submitting character and back story).

What about Unchained classes? I understand if not, but I've been looking at the unchained monk recently so just thought I'd throw it out there :).

Hi, recruitment thread, and supporting campaign info, created over at http://paizo.com/campaigns/GMShadysCryptOfTheEverflame/recruiting - I couldn't figure out how to (or whether I could) change the name of this thread.

@Something Wicked: unchained monk - ok (same goes for unchained versions of core classes) but same notes on making the background fit.

If recruitment is not closed I would love sticking with you throughout several modules. I am thinking plain old sword wielding fighter. Maybe dual wielding of some kind.

The recuitement is currently open here. And is set to run through January 4th.
