            Hello,
I'm wanting to play a caster that doesn't deal direct damage. I know I'm going in a non conventional way but i have played the tak-nuker.

maybe some Enchantment? They can't hurt you if they're asleep, or think they're your friend.
Maybe some summoning as meat shields? Summon 2 w/ many shields with the command "Protect me!" is a great way to not deal unnecessary damage.
I like the idea of using a familiar to do touch spells to your friends. A flying lark could cure one person a round and stay out of most folks range.
Try reading the class guides for Wizards and pull from the God Wizard area. There's some good stuff in there, even if you don't want to learn Fireball. ;)

It's easy to not be a nuke. If you stock up on basically any school that isn't evocation, you'll be good. Being a transmuter means you could be a good group buffer. Being a conjurer means you're an anything-on-call. Being an illusionist means you can disable and debuff. Same deal with necromancers, with the added ability to create undead.

Non-damage wizards can and are the strongest in the game. Magic Missile? Scorching Ray? Why zap hit points when you can:
Blind, paralyze, stun, daze, sleep, petrify, grapple, imprison, drop into a pit, grapple, hold, make helpless, slow, funnel, trip, disarm, dominate, befriend, nauseate, stagger...
Schools: Conjuration to change the battlefield, Enchantment to change their minds, Transmutation to change their bodies.
Not that a proper blaster wizard doesn't work either. The best status effect to inflict on your foes is DEAD. Well not always, but frequently :). Merciful spell when ya need prisoners...
Alternatively, Divination can break games. Why bother with the grand quest to find the lost amulet of MacGuffin? Cast a spell and get directions to it.
Pick your path and roll with it. As long as you have fun.

My sorcerer has 3 damage dealing spells at level 10. Snowball, Magic Missile and Burning Arc, and he only uses them when I've run out of other options. Glitterdust, Create Pit spells, Rimed Ice Spears, Haste, Slow, the Communal buff spells (Prot Energy, Darkvision) and Pilfering Hand get used multiple times each session, the damage only spells get used maybe once, usually to kill steal lol.
