Questions about the Rules Questions

Website Feedback

Hello, the boards.

I have been happy to discover Pathfinder.
I have been happy to discover this site, full of interesting questions and interesting answers.

Now, why this thread?

I have a question about this "Rules Questions" forum itself:
Since when has it lost its goal of talking about the rules? Of asking and especially answering questions?

Last things I posted was an answer about a rule question, barely two months old. As many threads go, there were several posts providing different answers. As such threads go, there was the beginning of a debate going on.

But!

Some posts disappeared, removing one side of the argument, with the excuse below (it was this thread):

I maintain that giving a different interpretation of rules in a two-month old thread isn't "resurrecting".

I maintain that giving (and explaining) an interpretation of the rules-as-written that doesn't fit the current fashion isn't "just arguing". Yes, fashion. The rules are NOT clear about having several instances of the same magic item. The rules are NOT clear about forbidding double-dipping.

Now, I may be overreacting. A bit. But I strongly dislike when people I never met hit me on the head with arguments to reduce the fun I had playing this game.

Also, removing posts? Are you going to remove this thread, too? Ban me, even? Delete these forums because people express their opinion? Meh. I'll know if you do, and I'll sit back and remember the days of T$R.

This thread will likely be locked as well, or at least moved to a different forum, as it is not a Rules Question.

Generally speaking, antagonistic posts end threads.

If you are unhappy with the way your recent experience was handled, I suggest emailing Paizo's customer service.

Making another thread is not the answer.

Moderation decisions are meant to be disputed in the Website Feedback forum or via email to Customer Service. If it's not a rules question, it doesn't belong in the Rules Forum.

To expand: thread necromancy isn't frowned upon here as it is in other places online. Quite often useful insight can be gained from opening up an old discussion again.

However the moderators have a duty to ensure that these boards are a friendly and welcoming place. Now, I don't know the thread in question, nor what was written in it, but I would assume that someone flagged a post for moderation and the moderators agreed that it didn't add value to the discussion that had already taken place, so removed it.

You are more than welcome to disagree with that decision, and should take your case directly to the customer service team. The boards are not the place to air grievances against moderation decisions.

Further, care must be taken to avoid appearing argumentative (I would recommend avoiding possibly passive-aggressive queries involving the phrase "since when", since it comes across as petulant). State your case, but there's no need to be defensive about it. Be positive, ask for a copy of the post to be sent to you, and then explain why it wasn't "just to argue" and what value it actually added to the prior discussion. Without resorting to insults (not saying you've made any yet, though comparing Paizo to "T$R" rather than the correct "TSR" is pretty damn close).

Good luck!

If anything I ever wrote appears argumentative or insulting, I do apologize. I try not to start these (although when prodded, I might react accordingly - this issue has at least two sides). Anyways, thanks. I forgot about mailing Customer Service, too.

I'd actually email community@paizo.com rather than customer service.

They're pretty good about responding in the website feedback forum too, in cases like this.

There are over 137,500 threads at this point. Creating new ones when many others already exist is likely not a good idea...

That might be part of it.

To shed some light on this: when we see threads that are older that have recent posts and immediately those posts begin a back and forth debate (including personal insults), it's a red flag to us that the discussion is likely not best served by staying open. I did notice going back to the thread that there were posts that were missed, and those have been removed as well.

When anyone posts to our forums, we expect some adherence to the Community Guidelines we have in place. In those guidelines we've indicated that posts may be removed if they don't follow them. Moderation is also situational and largely a judgement call.

If you think any moderator has acted in a way that seems amiss, you can contact us via the Website Feedback forum (as I've moved this thread to) or our community@paizo.com address.

If you're going to throw yourself on your sword, it's usually more effective if you make sure the sword actually exists.
