First of all, I'd like to say again how much fun I had during this game.

The first time I played it was with Shifty (3 stars GM) but I had more fun during your game!
On the other table, we went kind of straight to the goal and didn't do the undead girls (or I don't even remember it).

Looking back on the game, I also felt like it was a bit too long, too. And that's probably why Shifty kind of railroaded us.

As for me, I felt a bit limited due to playing a pregen, espacially Crowe. But I could have done a bit more about this. I just didn't have the same pleasure to play a pregen than on of my own characters.

Anyway, you're doing more than great about GM'ing, Hmm! Don't worry at all about that! :)

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone.

I had a long response which the forum simply ate -- maybe it's a mimic? -- and will have to eventually recompose.

So I decided to do my exit post in two parts this time. I know that you all won't mind.

Okay, better late than never. Sorry, this was my first time processing these and it took me way too long to wrestle with pdf programs figuring out how to get these together.

It's remarkably soothing, drawing a map. All those nice geometric lines. Smeared blue wet erase marker to make flowing water... Rocks, trees, and other details. I really love drawing maps!

So... I'm prepping By Way of Bloodcove for the con that I will be GMing at this weekend (SkålCon -- if you have some cash, donate! It's for a great cause!) This reminds me... I will be at a local gaming con all weekend. I'll get up the first post of Overflow Archives on the 19th, but there's no guaranteee that I will post at all that weekend after I do so. If I do post, it will be short and sporadic.

You guys are free to write introductory posts after I start us off, and also free to chat with each other in character. Please, RP the heck out of this coming scenario. Have fun with it. We won't be as rushed, so enjoy youselves.

I do intend to post a "Story behind the Story" response under spoilers for those of you who commented today. I actually wrote it, only to have the forum eat it, but eventually I will write it again. However, it may not happen until after SkålCon since I have so much to prep, and I still have work and being a mom and stuff.

Hmm

PS Oloch, tell your eldest "Happy Belated Birthday!"

Plus, you can help force Jon Dehning (VC) a shave and a haircut. Which would be hilarious.

That Con looks utterly amazing, especially getting to use the FFA facility to do it. Have fun.

Jon Dehning dubbed me "Poker of Beehives" recently, so I'm planning on attending the first day in full bee costume.

Do not post about this on the main PFS board... I want it to be a surprise, so that I can see his face. I'm going to have stripes, antennae, wings and a little basket full of miniature jars of honey. As you can see I've thought this one through.

Fantasy Flight Games Center is by far my favorite PFS location. It's clean, well-lit, has well-stocked bathrooms, natural light and a full grill that serves excellent hot food, including multiple vegetarian items.

I was thrilled that Andy Christian and Jon Dehning were able to talk the FFGC people into letting us host there.

Man I must have been tired writing FFA instead of FFG, unfortunately I've only had the chance to see it via videos but it looks amazing. Add to that the fact that they allow events for other companies to happen there just blows me away, I already knew they allowed other games just not whole conventions. So jealous, but between money and time it's just not feasible for me to come that way. (Plus we have our own convention the next week)

Okay, question for all of you. Should we go with regular google drawings for the maps for Overflow? I still had trouble moving pieces while on mobile... And if I needed others to move pieces, I'm wondering if we just want to do Google drawings for the Overflow archives.

I don't own a tablet, and moving tokens on an iphone is just horrible, so that is as much advice I can give.

As for meeting, I'll most likely be a Tier 1 or 2 GenCon GM.

Yeah, I know there may be something in the meantime we shall see. Unfortunately with grad school and work most of my free time is eaten up. (Being tier 1/2 defers a lot of the cost of GenCon hence the reason I'll likely be doing that)

Silver Crusade

After having given both a try, I myself still prefer Google Drawings. They just allow for much better customization in my opinion. The downside is that it is not possible to edit them (move around) from a touch screen, which Google Slides does allow. I know in many of the games I run people do specifically request Google Slides for just that reason, and I typically use a computer more than a phone or tablet, myself. Something to note, you actually need to download the Google Slides App, and then open the map with that App for it to really be that effective.

So, with that being said, my preference would be Drawings, but not at all at the expense of anyone else's preference or ability to use the map.

Also, I've updated. I wasn't going to buy anything at the moment, so I'm good. I just need to swap out spells again, but otherwise I'm good.

I hadn't tried it with the app, that works much better than trying to do it in the browser on my tablet.

Thanks!

Another App I highly, highly recommend for PbP games is the Wayfinder App. It was specifically designed for Pathfinder PbP games, and by one of our own.

It is not free, but it costs like $1 or $2 (US), but it's well worth it if you use a tablet or phone to post fairly often.

It includes hotkeys for all of the most common BBCodes on Paizo (Bold, Italics, OOC, etc. . .) but also includes an easy to use dice roller.

"Doom Girl" // ♫ // ◇ ◈ ↺ // PbP Events // // PbP GM Kit // Silver Bark Golden Blades Map // ★ DA Duology Maps

So... I promised everyone the story behind the story.

The undead princesses are interesting. They're so lonely and bored (and fed up with the Pharoah) that they're perfectly happy to chat with the party and then wave them off, saying, "Bye bye, boys! Have fun storming the Pharoah!" This situation lasts only as long as you don't remind the creepy undead that they're creepy undead. If their illusions get shattered, pointed out, or anything else, then the ladies attack the party. My guess is that 95% of groups will have at least one person who'll say out loud, "Wait a minute... aren't you girls undead?"

I think that Oloch's challenge was brilliantly written and very much in character.

As a GM, I also tried -- and failed -- to bring out one more story that was only implied in the module. Remember the mini-mummy in the false tomb? He was the tomb's architect, creator of the beautiful room with the pink marble palm trees, etc. Sekh-pa-Mefr slew him, sacrificed him to maintain the tomb's secrets, and had him mummified to provide a false Pharoah for the false tomb. That little snippet is in the module's background, with no way for the PCs to uncover the information.

I felt bad for the architect, and wanted to give the architect his own story, even if his tongue had been ripped out before mummification to prevent him from telling it himself. I had decided that the clues to the puzzle door and that scroll of searing light (found in a statue of Ra) and the scroll of remove curse were no accident. Those must have been deliberately put there, most likely by an architect who knew that he was doomed. So I gave him a name -- Rahotep, he who satisfies Ra -- and hoped that the clues and the "remember me" charm would bring out the story.

Alas, I may have been too subtle. That, and my timing sucked. The PCs who were most likely to make the knowledge rolls and poke at the mystery had players who were on leave just as I got the clues set up.

Ah well. I get to tell you the story now, don't I? Think of this as a deleted scene from the DVD's extras.

Hmm

Oh the remove curse is definitely there for a reason. Very helpful if you get mummy rot, or decide to play around with the "Periapt" too long.

I thought it was really good. I remembered the undead ladies (as somehow we just talked to them and left, despite two of us making the save - we just never mentioned it) and the stone pyramid of doom - as I really hate that fight. The stuff you added was cool and I like subtle stuff, though it is nice to hear more about it in retrospect. Thanks for running a hell of a game, hopefully you get to see Jon fully shaved this weekend.

I think that the shaving will get recorded. There's a good chance that Andy Christian will get shaved too. We're a little under 500 gold dollars from our stretch goal to get both of them shaved and more money to Harriet Tubman house!

My table of By Way of Bloodcove went smoothly. They all had a good time, despite being slightly wasted from the previous night's festivities. Since they had been kind enough to show up for an 8 am time slot on a Convention Saturday, I gifted them all with mini jars of honey along with their chronicle sheets even though by that point I was no longer in my bee costume. Interesting. When I played it, the GM made us all make DC 10 climb or acrobatics checks, but I don't see support for that in the scenario's text. As entertaining as it would be to make you all slip and slide in your heavy armor, it would slow down gameplay too much here. Let's just say that it's like standing in a shower stall. You can't run, but you can all slowly make it to the top, soaked to the bone.

IMO, both your interpretation and your GM's would be valid, while the scenario may not explicitly put out a DC, this fits either with the climb skill (+5 to DC for slippery surfaces) or even possibly Acrobatics (slippery surface). It's one of those things that GMs can use to adjust (generally to the party's difficulty level) a scenario while still running as written (often these variations can be in terrain or lighting conditions). 2cp.

I want to maintain high standards, and avoid burnout, so I want to try this out in order to maintain my sanity as a GM.

You want a sane GM, right? (This is where you say yes.) What does a slow down mean? For me, no more than a couple GM posts a day.

On a completely different topic, here is a photo of Jon Dehning and Me at Skål Con! I figured that if I mentioned the bee costume, you should at least see middle-aged me in the aforementioned bee outfit. Jon is shown here in pre-shorn glory.

That was my thoughts as well. It sounds like a case where you could reasonably include some difficult terrain rules, where the Climb/Acrobatics check allows you to ignore them. After about Season 2, they stopped putting these sorts of rules into the scenario much, just expecting people to use them as needed, unless they are uncommon.
