Blood (Psychic) Arcanist

Advice

I wanted to play an Arcanist but I worry about Arcane Spell Failure.
But then looking through OA I stumbled upon the Psychic Bloodline.

Now the Blood Arcanist gets to pick a Bloodline in place of 4 Exploits(1,3,9,15) and their 20th level capstone.

What Psychic's arcana is
Bloodline Arcana: Your sorcerer spells and spell-like
abilities count as psychic instead of arcane. You use
thought and emotion components instead of verbal and
somatic components when casting your spells.

Now with your spells treated as Psychic rather then Arcane I do believe an Arcanist can now wear armor and the like without having a failure chance. I do know this hurts as Thought Components increase the DC of Concentration checks by 10 unless you use a move action before hand.

Is this a worthwhile trade?

Also note that enemies that use emotion-affecting spells and fear effects on you will shut down your spellcasting, which is something else you should be aware of.

However, in the end, I think your character should be able to contribute. The +10 to concentration checks shouldn't pop up too often if you stay away from the front line, plus there is also that Arcanist exploit that lets you teleport as a move action which should help in a pinch.

Nice catch. This might make for an interesting Eldritch Knight build.

Edit: Intuitive Spell would combine well with armor and the Spell Critical E.K. capstone.

That won't work. The Psychic bloodline arcana makes the spells the Sorcerer/Arcanist casts psychic spells and not arcane spells.

Well, crud. You are correct. Thanks for pointing that out before I got too far in my planning. :)

Ghoran Psychic Blood Arcanist for the win

Hmm a Plant Psychic is kind of interesting it gives question of what animates this plant species.

What kind of armor are you trying to wear and why?

Probably a light armor for protection and to mask the spellcaster look.

Disguising your class can be fun. I have a Hexcrafter/Staff Magus who uses the Glamour special ability to make it look like he is wearing regular clothes or robes. Intelligent enemies see an unarmored person holding a staff while a bat flutters around him and they think 'Wizard, Sorcerer, or Witch.' When they close and try to engage the 'feeble' caster, they usually get a surprise. :)

It occurs to me that a Blood Arcanist (Psychic) would be the only psychic caster who prepares spells in any way. That seems kind of neat.

Blood Arcanist (Psychic) can learn every spell a Wizard can and can cast them in full plate without needing to fear failing a cast.

I would not recommend the full plate thing. But pick up some nice light or medium armor, reduce armor check somehow or look into getting profs with a level dip.
