Introducing Young Players to RPG

Advice

Liberty's Edge

My children are 8 and 11. I would like to introduce them to PF or something similar (maybe 5e). I was wondering if there were any good adventures or modules that would be a good choice for them, something short (maybe a few hours) and relatively simple.

For such young players I would probably recommend 5E, if you have it. It's too bad we still don't have the old RPG-style boardgames like Hero's Quest.

My guys are 8 and 12. We started with the beginner's box about 2 months ago and went thru it fine. We also went to a couple of society games and they ate it up. We just began the Jade Regent AP and they are having no problems other than the fact I can't get everything prepared quick enough for the amount they want to play. They want to play every day almost. Hell most of the time they remember their feats and other options better than I do and can do all the math on dice rolls quicker too.:)

So very few options?

I think the beginner box is your best bet. its your standard dungeon crawl with a dragon at the end, and it takes you all the way up to level 4. and cause theres a dragon at the end, it makes the adventure seem that much more epic.

My son is 10 and currently plays at a table that I run with several adults. Not to say that he understands everything, but he has a lot of fun and doesn't bog the table down.

I think if you are worried about thebmatueity level of some modules, make something of your own. Even if it is a random dungeon crawl. My son loves Pathfinder. Your kids might as well.

The relative simplicity of the 5th edition rules makes it a very good candidate, and is probably a better fit than pathfinder mechanically for "on the fly" action or crazy ideas (which usually are a given with them youngsters :P ).
The starter campaign (can't remember the name) is quite decent as well, if classic.

Two words: "Tucker's Kobolds". Because it's important for kids to learn that life is cruel.
