As an alternative, you could spend 1PP after your first scenario to get one if you really wanted to.
As another option, continual flame is one of the few spells you can have a casting of that carries from scenario to scenario, so you could pay for the spellcasting service to have it cast on an object you own, losing out on the floatiness aspect but having that permanent light source. Such a service would cost you 60gp

Could you get it cast by a Cleric instead of a Wizard?
3rd level spell, 5th level caster, 50 gp material cost, cost of item it is cast on, and 150 gp service cost. Obviously, it would need annotation, especially if you had the NPC cast it on a dull grey Ioun stone....
Obviously, if you adventure with a 5th level Cleric, you could get it done for just the 50 gp material component cost...

It's 110gp...can't forget the 50gp ruby dust component for casting.

Yes...I know that, and I assume he did too as he mentioned how to buy one when you don't have the fame.
I was specifically talking about the spellcasting services part of his comment...which is another way to buy one when something similar when you don't have the fame.

I'm not sure you can buy spell casting services with metamagic feats (I don't believe so, but I haven't double checked). I know one of my characters has an Ioun Stone with Heightened Continual flame, but I bought all the components and another player did the spell casting (it was a cleric with Heighten, which he needed as a pre-req for Preferred spell). Certainly worth checking with people if they may have access (in this case it's also only the same cost as an ioun torch - 50gp in ruby dust and 25 for the dull gray stone)
Edit: Kevin confirmed below - no metamagic spellcasting services.
