Feat prerequisites

Rules Questions

So a player wants to take the multi attack feat from the bestiary. The dm says that he can't because he doesn't have 3 or more natural attacks. The player says that he has them when he uses his wild shape ability. The dm says that he still can't get it because that's something you do not usually have.

Is the dm right? If you have the prerequisites but only when using a certain ability, do you not pass for the prerequisites?

Thanks!

The DM is "right", as there is no official right for this rule other than, "ask your DM". Personally, I'd allow it if DMing, but wouldn't argue against another DM if he made the opposite call.

I'm not sure if this helps, but if you somehow no longer qualify for a feat you already have, you don't lose the feat. Instead you just can't use it until you qualify for it again.

For what it's worth, you cannot take ranks in the Fly skill without a natural means of flight or gliding. Creatures can also take ranks in Fly if they possess a reliable means of flying every day (either through a spell or other special ability).

Based on this, I would allow a character to take feats if they have a reliable means of meeting the prerequisites every day. Wild Shape is such a means. Of course, if they loose the prerequisites (such as when they are in their natural form), they temporally lose access to the feat until they meet them again.

If the DM is allowing the feat than wildshape is a legal means to qualify for the feat, but the player will only have access to the feat when wildshaped into something with three or more natural attacks.

Thanks guys :)!
