Super Bluff?

Advice

Hello all, I am playing a new campaign, at level 3 with 200 gp and I have decided I want a super high bluff. I would have a 20 charisma but everything else is up in the air, please give ideas for super bluff, thanks.

You can't afford it now but if your GM will allow you to craft using the custom item creation rules then you should make a ring of Glibness later on.

Any chance you were adopted by aasimar? Cause they have a nice race trait called 'innocent'. It basically makes everyone WANT to believe you (which is a +5 according to bluff). Being raised by the best stepford smiler there is seems like it might just help you.

Not as impressive at times as some of the things that will get suggested (since it doesn't help in situations where the target wanted to believe you anyway), but being sure that you get that +5 consistently seems worth a trait.

Yes I get 2 traits, thanks both.

here, have fun.

Shadow Lodge

Street Performer bard gets a bonus equal to half their level to bluff checks.

Liberty's Edge

What race are you?

As a Human, going with the Silver Tongued and Focused Study options gives you another +5 at 1st level.

Grand Lodge

Rakshasa Sorceror gives you Glibness 3+Cha times a day. 300 more gold gives you Mask of Stony Demeanor. Human as mentioned above, and you can still take Deceitful as well if you wish. Masterwork Bluff tool gives you a +2. Extremely Fashionable is a good trait that can give you a +1. That's +25 even without the mask. 200 gold is honestly not a lot at all for a level 3. Honeytongue Elixirs are expensive but appear to be untyped bonus, although I cant access my primer right now so thats from Archives of Nethys.

Liberty's Edge

Rakshasa Sorcerer (or Eldritch Heritage of that Bloodline) does not actually grant Glibness. It grants a similar avoidance of magical lie detection, but only a +5 Bluff bonus to Glibness's +20.

For the record.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

A bard with the appropriate Versatile Performance seems like the way to go, because you can be maxing out another skill at the same time, and later get bracers of the glib entertainer for +5 to your Perform, and 1/day glibness.

Alright thanks, so seems the way to go is a human silver tongued street performing stony masked glibracers bard. Ok

Depending on who you ask, Silver Tongued (being specifically a bonus to Bluff) may well not apply in combination with Versatile Performance. I'd let it, but you'll need to ask your GM.

I'm surprised no one has suggested Infiltrator Inquisitor. Get your wisdom to 20, take the Conversion Inquisition, and the Infiltrator archetype. The Conversion Inquisition lets you use WIS instead of CHA for diplomacy, intimidate, and bluff. The Infiltrator archetype lets you add WIS to Bluff and Diplomacy.

At level 1 you could easily have a bluff of: +1 (Rank) +3 (Class Skill) +5 (Conversion) +5 (Infiltrator) +2 (Masterwork Bluff Tool) +2 (Racial Bonus) +2 (Trait) +3 (Skill Focus) = +21

There are various races that offer +2 to Intimidate, and the Framed Trait offers +2 to Bluff. A masterwork tool is 50 GP and gives a +2 circumstance bonus to all bluff checks.

I made a bluff build as a challenge once. I don't recommend actually using it.

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I will throw my Bard in for a good Bluffing character. SInce they max out Bluff the best they can they also use bluff in place of INT skills such as Knowledge, Linguistics, Spellcraft and Appraisal.

The build revolves around Pageant of the Peacock and the awesomeness of the Bard.

Fake it till you Make it. The Professional B&#@*%!~ter Bard:

Race: Human 20 point buy
Str:8 Dex:14 Con:12 Int:12 Wis:10 Cha:19
Traits: (dealers choice...I recommend buffing your casting, Bluff skill, or initiative)

Favored Class Bonuses First 3 levels goes into HP. After level 3 I will take the extra Spells every level.

Feats:
H-Improved Initiative
1-Spell Focus- Enchantment
3-Lingering Performance
5-Greater Spell Focus- Enchantment
7-Persistent Spell
9-Spell Penetration
11-Discordant Voice

Skills By Level:

Versatile Performances:
2nd Level- Oratory (Diplomacy/Sense Motive)
6th Level- Dance (Fly & Acrobatics)
10th Level- Percussion (Handle Animal & Intimidate)((This really can be changed))

Level 1: Perform Oratory, Dance, Bluff, Perception, Climb, Swim, Stealth, and UMD.
Level 2:Perform Oratory, Dance, Bluff, Perception, Escape Artist, Spellcraft (just need 1 point), Stealth, and UMD.
Level 3:Perform Oratory, Dance, Bluff, Perception, Escape Artist x2, Stealth, and UMD.
Level 4: Perform Oratory, Dance, Bluff, Perception, Escape Artist, Linguistics (Need a Popular Language), Stealth, and UMD.
Level 5:Perform Oratory, Dance, Percussion , Bluff, Perception, Escape Artist, Stealth, and UMD.
Level 6: Perform Oratory, Dance, Percussion , Bluff, Perception, Escape Artist, Stealth, and UMD.
Level 7: Perform Oratory, Dance, Percussion , Bluff, Perception, Escape Artist, Stealth, and UMD.
Level 8: Perform Oratory, Dance, Percussion , Bluff, Perception, Escape Artist, Stealth, and UMD.
Level 9: Perform Oratory, Dance, Percussion , Bluff, Perception, Escape Artist, Stealth, and UMD.
Level 10: Perform Oratory, Dance, Percussion , Bluff, Perception, Escape Artist, Stealth, and UMD.
Level 11: Perform Oratory, Dance, Percussion , Bluff, Perception, Escape Artist, Stealth, and UMD.

@ level 2 I will have roughly 12 skills plus all untrained Knows. with well versed. @ 5 I can make ALL Int based skill checks as bluff checks thus MAXING them all basically with Pageant of the Peacock in the first round before switching performances.

Some Spell Choices:

Level 1: 0-Daze, Message, Read Magic, Ghost Sound 1st- Grease, Hideous Laughter
Level 2: 0- Detect Magic 1st- Charm Person
Level 3: 0-Dancing Lights 1st- Saving Finally
Level 4: 0- Sift (free Human Spell) 1st- Feather Fall 2nd-Glitter Dust, Suggestion
Level 5: 1st- Vanish (Free Human spell) 2nd- PotP Trade no 2nd level spell
Level 6: 1st- Moment of Greatness (Free Human spell) 2nd-Silence
Level 7: 2nd- Mirror Image, Tongues(Free Human spell) 3rd-Good Hope, Confusion
Level 8: 2nd- _________(Free Human Spell), 3rd-Dispel Magic
Level 9: 2nd- Whip of Spiders (Free Human spell) 3rd-Haste
Level 10: 3rd- Aura of the Unremarkable- (Free Human spell) 4th-Dominate Person, Summon Monster 4
Level 11: 3rd- Jester's Jaunt (Free Human spell) 4th-Song of Healing

Gear suggestions:
Headband of CHA (as high as I can get it), Circlet of Persuasion, Greater Plague Rat Belt, +1 Mithral Breastplate (Celestial Gear late game), Ring of Force Shield (shield that leaves your hand free to cast or hold a rod/wand), Ring of Protection +1

Haversack, Efficiency Quiver (Filled with Wands and Rods)
Lesser rods of Extend, Echoing Spell, Quicken (if You can afford late game)

Wands: Divine Grace (+CHA to saves YES...benefit of being GOOD), Bless(Flag-bearer is a waste of feat with a wand of Bless, Use till Good Hope @ 7) , Silent Image, Cure Light Wounds or Infernal Healing, Longstrider, Wand of Lesser restoration

+2 (Masterwork Bluff Tool)

Just what, might I ask, is a "bluff tool"? At least as a generic item, I could see giving a "Tool" bonus for having something that supports the bluff, (e.g. a handcart full of goods for "I'm not the guy you're looking for, I'm just a travelling peddler who happens to look like him"), but not a general item that can be made masterwork.

Shutup, raw it works :p. Royal robes for passing as a commoner, it works.

Sadly, Infiltrator and the Conversion Inquisition don't stack as of the FAQ ruling where you can't add one stat to something multiple times.

Pageant was removed from PFS play to my incredible sadness.

@Deadman:Thanks, I honestly hadn't read glibness due to being on my phone.

If you can fit in Eldritch Heritage that is an extra+5 at a swift.

I saw nothing in the OP or your following Statements this was for PFS. When I see people starting at level 3 with only 200gp that does not scream PFS.

Please be more specific with what you're looking for before someone wastes their time to get shot down by a single sentence you could have had in your OP. Especially when you say "everything is up in the air."

Well umm im trying to make a character that can say "Hey there dude, you work for me" so im just trying to get some ideas on how to raise bluff. Im building inquisator right now will post in a moment.

Grand Lodge

Hey dude you work for me.

Dude: "who are you?"

Your new master *casts dominate person*

Dude: "What is your will master?"

Inquisitor is cool tho.

Alright here he is www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=177806 right now it is +28 when I activate rakashashasha ability (+33 if lie is likely or unlikely), anything else I may have missed that could assist me?

I must've focused in on your GL flair. Posting on my phone makes it harder for me to go back and check which thread I'm in. x.x

I saw the FAQ ruling, but I disagree. I think that applied to things like various Paladin multiclasses adding their Charisma twice to saves.

This is the wording on Infiltrator:

At 1st level, the infiltrator’s will is bent toward subterfuge and deception. She adds her Wisdom modifier on Bluff and Diplomacy skill checks in addition to the normal ability score modifiers.

I can see you arguing that this only applies to the "normal" ability score modifier, but I'd also argue that the Conversion Inquisition changes the normal ability score modifier on those skills.

Regardless, I wouldn't mind if it doesn't work like I think it would. As a GM I am really against anyone playing a build like this anyways.

It is GM specific. I allow Masterwork Tools if they are creative enough. In this case for instance, you could have a Masterwork Bluff Tool RP'd as a scarf your partner in crime used to wear before he died. Whenever you wear it your confidence bolsters, allowing you to bluff slightly better.

In the end, it is the GM's choice what he considers reasonable.
