That is correct.

I havent been keeping close tabs on the game, so I'm not sure if I understand the promo situation correctly.
If I have a sub will I (eventually) get every promo released, barring those included with the miniature packs?
Ok, so I do have to split hairs here... technically, the subscription just says that you will get promo cards with the subscription; it does not guarantee that you will get *all* promo cards, and things like the Iconic Heroes promos are exactly why it does not say that.
My philosophy is that I want to ensure that paizo.com customers have the opportunity to get every promo card when we release it or shortly thereafter. In most cases, those will be free subscriber perks, but there could, in the future, be other things like the Iconic Heroes promos that will not be included in the subscription, but that I will ensure you have the opportunity to purchase either by itself or as part of a product (like the Iconic Heroes minis packs) on paizo.com. We have nothing else planned at the moment, but I am not willing to close that door.
I will say that every promo card we have planned for Wrath (including Ekkie) will be released for free along with Wrath subscription shipments.

No worries, vic. Thanks for clarifying. (I didn't make it explicit but was kind of intending to catch "other unannounced and/or as yet unthought of promos" with the iconic heroes reference).
FWIW, the iconic heroes are an annoying kind of exception - I want a complete collection of both the PF Battles line and the Card Game promos - and there's no (current) sub for these, so I have to remember to keep an eye out. (The class decks are similar).
A deluxe card game subscription offering everything would be ideal for me, although I grant that the "mingling" of the various product lines makes that difficult to conceptualise - do the class decks get included? The minis? The Ultrapro mats?

I'm cross posting from here (http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2sb4h?Promo-Cards#32), but I'm hoping to bring some attention to this...
Hey All,
I wanna jump in and add that this Promo card strategy is brutal to us completionists.
I just got done dropping nearly $150 to pick up the promo cards to nearly complete out the sets. And I'm still looking for a Goblin Lockpick...
This is insane. I can understand the allure of inciting interest in your product, but all these cards have done is leave holes in collections for many people in terms of game play.
If the idea is reward people for their loyalty for doing things like subscribing and what have you, fine, print a special edition of the card, with no unique powers or rules. Then sell a non-special edition version to those of us who'd like to have those cards to complete the game.
And as for rewarding subscribers in the first place, I'm glad you've found a way to build recurring revenue, but please try to consider those of us who want to see our local hobby stores stay in business and so shop *there* to support *them* while still supporting *you* by purchasing *your* products!
All I'm saying is that there are smarter ways to generate excitement and create product interest than by penalizing completionist gamers and forcing into existence an aftermarket where price gouging is the norm.
And if you don't believe that aftermarket exists please refer to the Ranzak pack currently listed at $46 on eBay -

That's practically the price of a base set for a singular character! And you better believe that the same will happen with Ekkie!

Or you could just buy it on this very site for 4 bucks.

The only point of complaint regarding promos involves those that come with the minis, and even that is a situation where it's not too difficult to dump the figurines on the secondary market and keep the cards (or vice-versa). The subscription is not onerous and will ensure you get most promo cards. Shipping might cost more for international folks; that's probably no different for a lot of things in the collector's market (Germany's special edition "Settlers of Catan" stuff, Limited Edition Nintendo consoles in Britain, etc.). Compared to how promo cards are distributed for other card games, I think Paizo's model is very fair and accessible, and is in my view a huge incentive for completionists to buy and play the game.

Paizo does send out promos with early orders to distributors for retail. Talk to your FLGS about these and tell them to get those promos from the distributors. I think the promos are to encourage early sales, not just subscribers. I suspect that some distributors are diverting promos, which would be a shame. So direct your energy there, maybe.
Also, I too try to support the local hobby store. So I set up my subscription with the character add-on and bought the base set at the store and still get all the promos.

Just to clarify a bit how promos work: Every month there is a retail promo. The retail promo is sent to distributors with initial orders, that means the first order they place when the product is still new. Reorders do not get promos. There is also a convention promo, which can be obtained by going to a convention where Paizo has a presence. And there is a subscriber promo that is excursive to subscribers. And then there are the Free RPG promos, which you can get free on Free RPG Day or purchase for a small price directly from Paizo. Subscribers get all those promos as part of their subscription, provided you are a subscriber the month the promo is released.
If your retailer is not getting promos, there are a few possible reasons. (1) Their distributor isn't sending them. (2) They aren't ordering early enough to be in the initial "new" orders. Either way, you should encourage your retailer to talk to their distributor. I've seen lots of people say that once they told their retailer they would buy every PACG product that came out, their retailer made sure to set aside a promo for them every time.
That will only leave you the convention, Free RPG Day, and subscriber promo to track down. The Free RPG Day one can be purchased for cheap from Paizo (it might be less than what you would have spent on gas to go to Free RPG Day). That means, assuming you can't attend a convention to get the convention one for free, there are only a few you'll have to chase down on the open market.
I feel your pain. Being a completionist was why, having discovered Rise of the Runelords late, I wasn't going to subscribe to it. I knew that if I got 1 promo, I'd want them all. And I didn't want to chase after them. (My desire to make sure I complete the adventure path in all 1st printing changed that.) But I will say, from what I've seen about how promos work, Paizo's model is pretty fair. In fact, I'm a bit surprised we don't see subscribers complaining that it is too easy for people to get all the promos without subscribing. (Note: I'm not saying that.)
It is nice you want to support your local store. Hopefully they'll support you supporting them by setting aside a promo for you each month. You can always buy the class decks and iconic hero sets from them, too, since doing so won't risk any promos. Another thing to consider is to subscribe, but use the option to not get the Base Set in your subscription. You can pick the Base Set up at your local store. By getting the character add-on deck and the adventure decks 2-6, you'll get all the promos for the adventure path.
