Two-Weapon Fighter build with spear and shield advice please

Advice

So I am working on another character concept build. I am modeling his fighting style after the movie 300. He will wield a shortspear and shield and while his damage probably wont be as good as a two-handed build I want him to be able debuff as well. This is what I have so far and was wondering if any one knows of any other ways for a fighter to debuff.

Spoiler:

Race: Aasimar (Angel-Blooded)
Scion of Humanity
Immortal Spark
Class: Fighter
Archetype: Two-Weapon Fighter & Gladiator
Traits: Finding Haleen (Fighter), Indomitable Faith, Shield-Trained
Drawback: Overprotective
Misc Notes: Middle Aged Adjustments, Chaotic Good, Diety is Gorum, Weapon with Cruel property

Level & Feat
1. Improved Shield Bash, Two-Weapon Fighting
2. Weapon Focus (Spear)
3. Power Attack
4. Improved Bull Rush
5. Intimidating Prowess
6. Shield Slam
7. Cornugon Smash
8. Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
9. Dazzling Display
10. Greater Bull Rush
11. Shatter Defenses
12. Shield Master
13. Iron Will
14. Savage Display
15. Improved Iron Will
16. Step Up
17. Toughness
18. Following Step
19. Combat Reflexes
20.

What my thinking is that I get them shaken with Cornugon Smash and then on the following attack they gain the sickened condition as well as flat-footed against me, which makes it easier to keep shaken and sickened on them. Also makes it easier for me to bull rush them into a wall and make them go prone. This is my 1st attempt at a some what debuff build.

Why not Phalanx Fighter?

Isn't wielding a Longspear better than wielding a shortspear?

Also, Phalanx Fighter is SPECIFICALLY designed based around like the Spartans from 300 or the Macedonian phalanx formations of Alexander the Great.

An Order of the Cockatrice Daring Champion would probably be superior for this build. You get Dazzling Display as a standard action starting at level 2, so you can inflict shaken in the first round and then move in to hit the enemy with your Cruel shortspear. Later on you'd get Targeted Strike, too, which is great for a martial debuffer.

Also, if we're going with 300 here, try this:

Race Two-Weapon Fighting
CL1 Improved Shield Bash, Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Falcata)
CL2 Quick-Draw
CL3 Point-Blank Shot
CL4 Precise Shot
CL5 Power Attack
CL6 Shield Slam
CL7 Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
CL8 Charging Hurler
CL9 Improved Charging Hurler
CL10 Two-Handed Thrower
CL11 Shield Master
CL12 Greater Two-Weapon Fighting
CL13 Two-Weapon Rend
CL14 Shield Wall
CL15 Distracting Charge
CL16 Coordinated Charge
CL17 Intercept Charge
CL18 ???
CL19 ???
CL20 ???

Or go with Warpriest if you're looking at a more mythological end (Scion of Humanity is easily one of, if not the, best races for Warpriest)

Blessings: Air, Strength/Good/Law/Chaos/
CL1 Wrp1 Two-Weapon Fighting, Weapon Focus (Spear)
CL2 Wrp2
CL3 Wrp3 Quick Draw, Improved Shield Bash
CL4 Wrp4
CL5 Wrp5 Point-Blank Shot
CL6 Wrp6 Shield Slam, Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
CL7 Wrp7 Martial Versatility (Weapon Focus (spear))
CL8 Wrp8
CL9 Wrp9 Greater Weapon Focus (Spear), Charging Hurler
CL10 Wrp10
CL11 Wrp11 Precise Shot
CL12 Wrp12 Greater Two-Weapon Fighting, Shield Master
CL13 Wrp13 Charging Hurler
CL14 Wrp14
CL15 Wrp15 Weapon Specialization (Spear), Greater Weapon Specialization (Spear)
CL16 Wrp16
CL17 Wrp17 Quicken Blessing (???)
CL18 Wrp18 Martial Mastery, ???
CL19 Wrp19 ???
CL20 Wrp20

Martial Mastery will make it so that all your weapons - EVERYTHING you have access to - get +2 to hit, +4 to damage and 2d8 damage.

Grand Lodge

You could go dex-based.

1) Be Human, Half-Orc, Half-Elf, or Scion of Humanity Aasimar.

2) Dip one level in Swashbuckler, or Daring Champion Cavalier.

3) Take Weapon Focus(Sibat).

4) Take the Slashing Grace(Sibat).

5) Take the Martial Versatility feat, and choose Slashing Grace.

Now, you can use Dex to hit, and damage, with the amentum, boar spear, chain spear, harpoon, javelin, lance, longspear, pilum, shortspear, sibat, spear, tiger fork, and trident.

If you have a Spiked Shield, you can finesse that, or you can take the Shield Trained trait, and finesse heavy shields.

You will threaten both 10ft, and adjacent, and you high dex will pump Combat Reflexes, dominating the battlefield.

Also, now the Elven branched spear exists, which is finessable to begin with.

If you prefer heavy armor and high INT to high DEX, you can TWF using Artful dodger.

@chbgraphicarts The way that I envision this character fighting I thought that Two-Weapon Fighter was a better fit, I like the idea of wielding a normal spear (don't want a long spear because then I cant shield bash). I was thinking of using a shortspear stats and just saying its about 5 to 5 1/2 feat long.

Some of the feats you listed in your two-weapon build would definitely help fulfill the flavor I am looking for. As for warpriest, I thought about that but didn't think it fit very well this the loose backstory I have for him, a soldier from Rahadoum.

@Arachnofiend To be honest Dazzling Display was really only picked up because its a prereq, its actually the only feat I have chosen that I don't plan on using. I like the idea of having targeted strike. I will definitely look more into that!

@blackbloodtroll A dex could be viable depending on how my stats actually turn out when ever I play this guy and roll them, however I would be losing alot I feel like in that build just to be able to apply my dex instead of str to all of those weapons. Though I do like the unique approach to being able to apply my dex to so many weapons that I normally couldn't. I will definitely have to keep that in mind for a future build.

@LoneKnave I never knew that item/feat existed! d20pfsrd isn't all that great at updating their site I have been noticing....

I am trying to keep this guy limited to a single class and keep him fighter. I love playing martial classes and yet some how I have yet to ever play a fighter.... I was looking at the Martial Master archetype as well though.... I notice a lot of the recommendations for debuffing are for other classes, do fighters not have a whole lot available to them for debuffing?

Well technically those are two quite different types of soldier...

Anyhow the Two-Weapon Warrior archetype is very, very good for wielding two weapons, but it's unfortunate that a shortspear is kind of crap - I guess there's always the taiaha to get your proper x3 critical with a one-handed spear. Phalanx Soldier is a solution to the shortspear issue, but the fact that it loses both weapon and armor training is pretty ugly, particularly when what you get in exchange is lousy if you're planning on using TWF.

I'm surprised you don't have Two Weapon Rend in there, considering that the Two-Weapon Warrior can eventually make a standard action attack that goes mainhand - offhand - rend.

Blood Angel

Look at martial Versatility and Slashing Grace and the thrown weapons group. It will allow you to apply dex to hit and damage to both shield and spear. You can place all feats on just one weapon and apply them to both.

Blood Angel:
I did a phalanx soldier build (well, admittedly mine was a multiclassing, prestigeclassing garbled mess - but all my characters end up that way so ...)
Main weapon was a bashing shield that sent enemies flying with the shield slam feat.
Secondary weapon was guisarme-glaive for tripping opponents and providing flanks or using the bodyguard feat to improve his allies.

Good for support melee; improved trip, greater trip, combat reflexes, bodyguard, shield slam all made him good at keeping casters safe from melee opponents and supporting other dpr-machines.

bad against fliers, seriously F!++ those guys!

(my build had levls of urban ranger to get feats without needing pre-reqs and for skills - he ended up being the party rogue by accident.
"what do you mean noen of you focused on any skills whatsover? we all knew this was going to be a dungon crawl FFS!")

In general it's easier to think of him as a partial tank/ shield basher that focuses on combat maneuvers.
Main hand is "I Am Captain America, B+!*#!"
Off hand is "Oh, Sorry Didn't See You There, Are You All Right. Wooops I Went And Did It Again, What A Klutz *Goblin Laugh*"

@BadBird Yea, I do wish the shortspear was better but its a small sacrifice to make the character what I want. Two-Weapon Rend was added to the list, I am hoping to be able to bypass the need for Double Slice as a prereq since the way we play is that heroes are ambidextrous and should be able to do the same amount of damage regardless of which arm you are using....

@Rogar Stonebow I do like the idea of being able to apply my feats to more than one weapon but if I can roll good enough stats then I will not be going with a dex build (helps to free up some feat slots)

@LuxuriantOak I want to build this guy as a two-weapon fighting I am just trying to find out if there are other feats that I am unaware of that would help to debuff my target for the group. I know that Shatter Defenses only makes the target flat footed against me but that will help me keep other debuffs up as well as bull rushing the enemy into a wall and making them prone. Though since the discovery of the Phalanx Soldier I have been thinking a build that that would be fun as well.

Thanks for the advice every one, if you got more keep it coming!

Well, I am not sure spears this size would count as short spears, but sadly pathfinder seems to not favor wielding regular spears (as opposed to long spears) one-handed. Technically, hoplite spears tended to be larger than what we would consider shortspears, so I do not see it as breaking the theme. If you want to be true to the theme, I'd say go with the phalanx fighter

If you want some utility feats, have you thought about using maneuvers such as dirty trick to debuff the enemy?
