Legions and Generals, Large scale warfare interest check

Recruitment

So I've been pouring over my copy of Ultimate Campaign, and I really like the warfare rules. I'm interested to know how many people would be interested in leading an army. It won't be a straight up army vs army game though. You would get to play PC's as well. The basic jist is something like the big wars from the LOTR/Hobbit films. You can offer instructions to your army, fortifications, go on recon missions, recruitment, or even run into the thick of combat with your soldiers.

I this sounds like something you'd be interested in, I would have pc's do a 25 pt buy, with access to 4 custom races I've made, along with other player races, and starting level would be 12th. Max magic item bonus would be +3 with extra abilities totaling a +5. Don't worry about cheese level, this is meant to be high power, and epic scale.

Go ahead and dot if this is up your alley!

Dot. Though at 12th level, it will more likely be "terrorist wizard VS army".
Is it supposed to be PvP, or all players are in charge of one army or kingdom?
3rd party content? Templates?
I preemptively vote against gestalt, as at 12th level it's too much work to generate and certainly need no measly armies.

I need to massively limit my total number of games, I might be interested. I am also against gestalt. Also, what about races and can we build our own?

One idea that just came to mind, before a mass battle, have the chars go on a mission that will affect the up coming battle.

This is NOT a gestalt campaign. Just to clear that up. You are also not kings, you'll be representing armies for your respective lands (like a general or high commander). Also, it's not going to be an all out blood bath. There will be need for diplomacy, tactics, and strategy. After all, one does not simply walk into Mordor (also, this isn't set in middle earth lol).

Classes and templates are allowed. CR+3 max. Or custom races up to 16 RP. I will also have 4 custom races available to choose from that I've crafted, though one sits at 20 RP, so level adjustments will be made accordingly, and that one race will have a handicap.

3rd party content is allowed if you can link to me the info, or provide a source. As for PVP, that'll be up to your in-game diplomacy.

So players are not a party, huh?
Is there a land that would make sense to have a druid general?
Will there be nearby lands controlled by NPCs?

This sounds intriguing, I'm thinking a Warlord would be pretty much perfect for this.

Sorry, I must've mis-spoke. PC's stand to strike an alliance, but you will have known each other previously. Your deeds are what have earned you right to command armies. By yourselves, you'll be free to call yourselves a party, but you will still need to answer to your leaders. How you carry out your leaders commands can effect their disposition to the other leaders, which will in turn effect your orders and pc interaction. However, if PVP is something that would rather be avoided, it can be done. I will have lands nearby that are controlled by NPC's yes.

As for setting, the landmass is called Avithale. There are plenty of locations that can be suited for any type of character. Don't worry about locations right now as they're all very basic with a light background and line of lineage. However, there are locations for each type of character.

This sounds like an interesting idea for a game.

I can think of a couple ideas for fantasy army captains that could be fun to play.

I also think that building characters that make good leaders is cool versus the typical "who can kill the boss monster the fastest" is a nice change.

My favorite idea right now for a character would be a "faerie knight" (maybe a cavalier or hunter with the fey template?) in service to a fey king/queen.

Maybe we hug same trees? I'm writing up NE druid who prefers to deal with enemies via landslides, hurricanes and diseases, but isn't very fond of leading charges.

Not sure about fey though. Do they live on Prime Material? Do they share forests with elves and/or druids?

In the standard pathfinder setting the fey straddle their own plane "The First World" and the Prime.

Obviously leprechauns, dryads, satyrs, nymphs, redcaps, gremlins, sprites, pixies, etc. are all critters that live in both places.

Gnomes all migrated from the First World to the Prime at some point.

Are firearms allowed? Is there some game mechanic for having a small but elite force?

I've had the same idea bouncing around my head for a week or so. I was going to have a party of PC's, with one PC taking a GM-generated "town leader" with a number (10 per PC level, I was thinking) of level 1 NPC's (mix of Warriors, Experts, and Acolytes) at his/her command.

Sadly (*) for me I just got accepted to two games unexpectedly so my plate is full.

(*) First World Problems, amIright?

Dotting here though to wish you luck and hope this lasts long enough for me to participate.

I would be interested in playing. I've only glanced at the warfare rules, but something like this sounds fun. As JoshB said, it'd be neat to play something designed to lead, rather than focusing on killing stuff as fast as possible.
Still considering what class/background I'd be most interested in, though.

What exactly will happen in this scenario? Would you give us a breakdown of what is happening in the world, tell us what our orders are, and then watch the fireworks?

If it's epic scale, what would be your opinion on including mythic tiers? Just curious.

I am interested.

im up for it

Firearms are definitely allowed (guns everywhere ruling). There will also be custom weapons introduced later.

As for mythic tiers, I've never actually played or read mythic rules, but I'm not opposed to including them if they seem to mesh well. But they would be granted later. Not something you'd start out with.

As for scenario, I'd let you know of the surrounding lands, and armies. Current diplomatic standing, if resources or recruitment is needed, what massive threats exist. But yes, I'll also send you off to battle. There may also be a few times when you'll need to go to face a threat as a party.

I was thinking of being a cavalier.

I'd be interested as well! Thinking either a woodland paladin or a battle shaman myself!

Hello! More questions :P
How much does our character class actually effect mass combat? Would it only really come into play during the party threats you mentioned, and diplomatic relations?

I'm thinking Samurai or Bard, not sure yet.

It'll effect the other players armies. You'll even be involved in ground fighting at some points. Battles you win on the PC level will effect the stats of your armies, increase morale, defense, or weaken them.

Since we have a decent bit of interest, I'll go ahead and start a recruitment thread, separate from this, with more details in said thread. Keep an eye out. This way the thread will start clean, with campaign info present!
