Kalista Build

Advice

So, newest League of Legends champion just came out, and I am wondering if it is possible to make her in the game. Obviously maybe not the "incorporeal ghostly" part {though a Samsamaran wouldn't be far off}, but at least a like, spear chucker build at the core, and then maybe add on more things. I don't even think I have seen any sort of spear thrower build. Is there one?

Throwing is a tough combat style to do well. It involves Polymorphing, Oracles or Barbarians, and even then I don't think it's very good.

Liberty's Edge

Eh. Quick Draw and a Blinkback Belt make javelin tossing viable on almost any class, though not ideal for any.

What does the character do aside from go incorporeal and throw spears? I'm unfamiliar with League of Legends characters in any detail to give good advice.

Hah, i guess that right there would suffice really. Here is a link to her abilities, but at the end of the day she just mostly throws spears.

Well, first off: thrown weapons are kinda bad, unless you have a blinkback belt/belt of mighty hurling (in case you want to go with STR).

Second, Kalista's main ability, martial poise (the one where she can move while throwing javelins/spears) simply doesn't work in PF. The most you can do is a 5ft step/turn when you full attack (which is what you'll want to be doing most of the time), with some feats expanding it a bit in application... but not too much.

Seems kinda weird that Pathfinder doesn't have a like, Ranger or Druid build that uses the thrown spear to great affect. Color me shocked honestly.

I can't think any spear/javelin specific options (aside from a few magic items) at all.

There's like, the undine metal spear-shaft and the Wood mystery oracle, but that's about it. PF isn't exactly kind to weapons that aren't swords or bows.

We didn't even touch on the part where you want to make a mobile ranged combatant. Heck, make that a mobile martial combatant in general.

...

Now, with all that being said, now that I think about it, card caster magus actually could work. It lets you charge your thrown weapon with spells to deliver the charge (this is kinda amazing), and because you only do 1 attack/spell a turn, you retain most of your mobility. You can even pick up flamboyant arcana for precise strike and other goodies .

You'll be quite bad, as the short spear has no crit range, but you can do some fun stuff with it.

Chill touch/frostbite (possibly rimed) takes the place of rend (...eeeeeh better than nothing). I'm thinking you may be able to use spell combat with short spears, even at range (it says make all your attacks with a one handed melee weapon... it is a one handed melee weapon, never said it has to stay in your hands or anything like that), but that's up to the DM.

Hmm....good thoughts. I will have to look into that...

Liberty's Edge

A Quick Runner's Shirt and Stagger Proof Boots are both excellent items for adding to mobility, effectively allowing a move and a full attack...but sadly each only does so once a day. Still, very handy.

I am thinking maybe a primitive barbarian with a bunch of hurler feats, and making spears out of bone.

Actually, I should probably go Vital Strike since I want to be moving and throwing each round.

You want Unfolding Wind Rush. You could grab both Perfect Style and Unfolding Wind rush with a 2 level dip into Master of Many Styles

This is legitimate, you could grab it fairly early on. Even if you feel the need for Unfolding Wind Rush you could manage it by level 7 (5 levels of, say, Slayer, 2 of MoMS Monk).

With Rapid Shot it's not even that bad, since it only costs one if those two attacks.

The 3.x class that has been redesigned several times Master Thrower is what you are looking for. I understand it isn't Pathfinder Core but I would ask your DM if he would allow it as it is exactly what you want.

Actually, I found the perfect thing! It is called the Far Strike Monk, that is apparently in one of the Player Companion books. It looks great!!

I dunno. Mechanically that class looks pretty weak to me. It is also poorly worded. It says you can't use Rapid Shot but it doesn't say anything about Two Weapon Fighting.

Did you guys not notice the BAB requirements for Unfolding Wind Strike and Unfolding Wind Rush? That combo doesn't kick in until 13th level.

That's why they said you should cheese it by going MoMS.

EDIT: hey, would Whirlwind attack work with Unfolding Wind Rush? WWA requires you to make melee attacks, and UWR requires you to wield a thrown weapon (many of them also good for melee attacks).

As far as I can tell, this means you zap around the battlefield and stab everyone in movement range with your *insert thrown weapon here*.

Depending on how you read Slashing Grace, you may be able to use it when throwing a sibat. Maybe. The way I read it, it would work, but I'm not sure it should.
But it might combine well with Unfolding Wind Rush.

far strike monk, pick up magic through qingqong.

Would, say, Psionics be acceptable? It is from a third party product, if imo a pretty good one. Both Soulknives (with the soulbolt archetype in particular) and psychic warriors can work well in this capability, and with some reflavoring you can have the spears represented by psychic powers.
