Self Wound to activate Black Blood Bloodrager powers

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

Two of the Black Blood bloodline powers for Bloodrager require slashing of piercing damage to activate. I don't see any reason why you couldn't self administer that damage.

That said, how fast could you do it? Would it take a standard action to knick yourself with a dart or knife? Swift action?

It would be an attack against yourself I guess. So a standard or part of a full attack.

I would use a standart action. And then homebrew a feat to make it a move or possibly a swift at higher levels.

Scarab Sages

So if you have a secondary bite attack you could just use that on yourself as part of a full attack to get it going.

This makes the level 12 ability particularly interesting...

It's only a maybe, or in otherwords, how I'd probably rule it. I don't know if pathfinder allows self injury.

Looking at the Cruromancer archetype for Dhampir Wizards it's a swift action.

but that's a specific ability from the cruromancer Blood Infusion, and not necessarily a general rule.

Take a dip into that class then.

But since there is no general rule for self harm...

So looking at the black blood bloodline, I feel self injury would only help with the lv1 ability. The level 12 would shoot at yourself and harm yourself with cold damage.

There's no rule that says you can't self attack. You do threaten your own space and can make attacks into it, and "You" is always a valid target. Now to my knowledge there is no rule for "dropping" your AC to allow your self-attack to land easier so you would still need to hit your own AC (including oddly, Dodge and Dex bonuses). Nor is there any rule for "just a nick". So if you are wielding a greataxe you essentially need to bring that sucker down on your own head just as hard as if it were an orc's head...just I don't recommend Power Attacking...
But so long as you can reliably hit yourself and don't mind the potentially devastating amount of damage you can likely deal there should be no problem.

I thought punching yourself was only allowed if you use Armor Spikes?

;)

Just to play devil's advocate here, the ability states whenever you take damage and does not state how much damage must be inflicted.

It also doesn't forbid non-lethal damage, so 1 point of non lethal damage from a slashing or piercing attack would activate it.

You can willingly allow yourself to be hit with a spell the range of touch such as inflict wounds, ergo you don't need to break ac to injure yourself.

This. Any time you use a range touch spell on yourself you allowing a touch attack to hit you. There is no reason you would need to roll to hit yourself
