questions about the PFSACG and starting it up

Pathfinder Adventure Card Society

maybe this is the wrong place for this, but I don't know where exactly to post it to get a good official response, so imma try here >.> pretty much im wanting to start up one of the pathfinder society adventure card game groups, and have a few questions/issues

1. is it the same as the adventure card guild or is that and the society different things?

2. I saw where it says for businesses to sign up, receive the senarios, but this would be a more private venture, the store is interested, but the owner can be lazy at times and I know ive already missed a little bit, so I was hoping to just take up the mantle myself but clearly I am not a business, is this possible? for me to receive the weekly senarios and whatever else?

3. speaking of missing a little bit, I was wondering how many senarios I have missed and if I can indeed start receiving them to run, then can I also receive the previous ones to catch up?

thanks

Hi alkatrazshock, let me try to help:

1. PFSACG is the name of the thing you are looking for, you are in the right place.

2. If you can get the business to fill out the information on this site they will eventually get a free demo set to allow you to play in the store, and will also get the ability to download the scenarios weekly for free. It won't take much time, and this is the easiest free way for you to get access to the scenarios to play at their shop.

Unless you become a Venture Officer/Regional Coordinator or you get your current VO to help you, or you get a store to sign up, the only way to get the scenarios will be to buy them at a cost of around a buck per scenario, $5.99 for the set of six. They begin become available on the 22nd of this month, with each arc releasing for download after that month's arc is complete.

3. Currently stores and VO's have access to 7 scenarios... a mini intro scenario that is used to teach new players how to use their class decks, and 6 regular scenarios covering the first story arc, Lost at Sea. If you buy the PDF pack next week you will have access to all of the currently available scenarios and can play them at your leisure with your gaming group or in marathon format. You can actually also download the intro scenario yourself to tide you over from this site for free.

You can find your local VO's contact info in the back of the Guide to Organized Play.

Hope that helps.

Just to piggyback onto some of that. If you are willing to do the work and have a good relationship with the store owner, I think signing up will take them all of 5 minutes. After that, all they have to do is agree to a schedule with you and print out the PDFs they receive. We are probably talking a total investment of 5 minutes per week. It is the perfect thing for lazy people. Approach it like this with them: "All I need you to do is fill out this form, and then once a week print a PDF for me. Just give me a regular night and time, I will set up the materials (the box set) and run the event." You are basically saying: "I will give you free work that might result in customers coming to your store and buying things. It costs you nothing to try it. The worst that will happen is you will get a free base set of the game and cancel the events if they don't turn out well." That should be the kind of thing lazy people love to hear (speaking as someone who is occasionally lazy myself.)

Don't worry about falling behind. There is a release schedule, but there isn't a "play" schedule. Your store can be on its own pace and schedule. The scenarios won't disappear or become unreportable. So just do you what you can when you can and don't feel obligated to "keep up" with anything.

I was *just* wondering about this. We're planning to play these scenarios at some point, but we're behind and likely to stay behind the S&S release schedule.

Is there *any* risk of the scenarios disappearing in, say, a year? Or are Paizo's releases of this sort permanent?

Well, it is hard to say just how the ACGOP will play out. It's the first time they've done this. I don't think they would pull them, since PFSRPG still allows season 0 play. Tanis would be the best qualified to answer that question, though.

We have no intention of making them go away. (On the RPG side of PFS, there are some older scenarios that are "retired," which means you can't play them for credit anymore, but even those are still available for home play. It is likely that if we ever retire PFSACG scenarios, something similar would happen, but again, we have no current intent to do anything like that.)
