The only reference I have seen regarding rerolls for wearing a Pathfinder shirt to a PFS event is in the free PDF "Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play" version 6.0 which is currently available on Paizo's website. It says, "As a way of rewarding players who show their support for the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign by purchasing and wearing special shirts featuring campaign insignia, faction logos, or Pathfinder branding, a player wearing any of the shirts listed below during a Pathfinder Society event may reroll one d20
roll during the course of that scenario." It also says, "The following Pathfinder Society Organized Play shirts are currently available" and lists about 25 shirts.
I want to know if these are the ONLY Pathfinder shirts which officially allow a reroll, or if any official Pathfinder shirt with the brand name (such as the "We Be Goblins" shirt or "Beginner Box" shirt) suffice.
These shirts are available at my local game store and in my size, so I'd like the option to use them. If this matter is officially covered somewhere, please note where I can find the information in case asked.
I can understand Paizo insisting on an official Paizo shirt for the rerolls, but don't understand why some of their branded shirts would be allowed and others excluded. I'd like the option to select the shirt I like best, which is in Paizo's interests because I'd be more likely to wear it outside of PFS events and give them free advertising.
Thank you!

This is probably a better question for the PFS forum.

I thought this was the PFS forum.
The thread is NOW in the right place. (sorry, didnt realize it had been moved)
I use a folio as well. When running, I often lend my folio to a player who doesnt have one when they really need it. It reinforces the fact that they need to buy one themselves.

I seem to recall a post where campaign management said all Paizo shirts were good for a reroll, they just kept forgetting to update the list in the guide.
Im going to check for you if I can find that post again.
Thanks, Woran, that would be most helpful! I tried to search, but found nothing. (But then I didn't even know where I'd posted originally, so my forum expertise is lacking.)
I'd rather spend $20 on a shirt I can get use out of than $10 on a folio I'll never otherwise use. (The players at the PFS events I attend don't even take them out of the shrink wrap.)
With more selection of shirts, I'd probably get one for my son, too. (We usually play together.)

It has evidently been on the planning stage for more than a year now...
Here's Mike's post specifically legalizing both the WBG and BB shirts for rerolls.
If your GM might question you about it, it would be prudent to print out the linked thread so they can read the post and intent.

If the re-roll is what you're after, then as others have said, the folio is the way to go. Its always available regardless of your wardrobe and at cons, you don't have to wear the same shirt everyday which everyone will appreciate.
Otherwise, yes, only the shirts listed in the guide and those that Mike has indicated in a forum post are eligible for re-rolls. As shirts go out of print, it would be nice to see more shirts approved. It doesn't really hurt anything and increases the likelihood of someone buying from Paizo.
While not "official" I have seen organizers allow convention shirts to be used as re-roll shirts during the event. This helps to improve sales of the shirts which is one way the conventions generate income, especially if the convention is a fund-raiser for a local charity.
|
and also provides incentives for gamers to change their shirts...
Yes shirt changes are not covered under the "3 2 1 rule" They are mentioned as not to replace "the One" but we all have superstitions. "I rolled 6 20s in a row wearing this shirt. Now it's my 'Critlucky' shirt."

I personally think having the shirt with you suffices. Just like you dont have to actually use the folio. Just have it with you.
And if someone falls over the 'you have to wear it'section of the guide, it doesnt state HOW you wear it. Just fold it into a hat. Or make yourself a t-shirt ninja

Its not my place to tell you or your GM how to adjudicate the "wear" rule, but it does go against the original spirit of the re-roll shirt. PFS is a marketing tool for Paizo and the shirts bring more visibility to their products. The intent was for players to wear the shirts to their local GameDays and to conventions so people unfamiliar with Pathfinder would be influenced to check into it.
Of course it also influences those already playing PFS to buy a shirt of their own as well, so the "just have it with you" idea has some merit as well. The point is to sell not only more t-shirts but more game material as well. The re-roll is the reward, the compensation if you will, you get for being a walking billboard for Paizo.
Personally, I think they should have put the company or Pathfinder logo on the faction shirts were it would be visible, but that's just my opinion

Isn't it interesting how we as players espouse rules/RAW when it comes to things like the GM sticking to tactics, not making things up, or adhering to the take 10 (or whatever) rules, but when it comes to things like wearing a shirt to earn a re-roll (RAW), we conveniently ignore it. Seems like sometimes we only like adjudication when its in our favor. Just an observation.

Free Rerolls
As a way of rewarding players who show their support for the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign by purchasing and wearing special shirts featuring campaign insignia, faction logos, or Pathfinder branding, a player wearing any of the shirts listed below during a Pathfinder Society event may reroll one d20 roll during the course of that scenario. This reroll must happen before the original result is determined and the player must use the reroll result, even if it is lower. Game Masters are also invited to wear Pathfinder Society Organized Play shirts, but gain no additional benefits other than supporting Pathfinder.*list of shirts*
If a player is using a physical copy (not a PDF, printout, or photocopy) of the Pathfinder RPG Player Character Folio, he receives a free reroll.
The guide clearly says wearing for shirts and using for the folio. If someone isn't at least wearing the shirt as an armband they are not using the folio as a folder for their character sheet (minimum I will allow for "using") they do not get a reroll at my table. I also have a note on my gm screen stating this.

I don't have a link handy, but campaign management has stated that just having the folio out and on the table is enough to qualify. You don't have to have a character in it or anything.

Really? I can't be using my own more clear character sheets but can be using the portfolio as an excellent reference material and you'd deny me my RAW rights to a reroll?

On the other hand, adhering to tactics and T10 rules for all three days of a convention doesn't knock anyone over by the end, nor can the size of someone's belly or bust (or the ratio between the two) force the GM to modify statblocks.
;)
(I do agree with your overall point, though: the roleplaying community has a LOT of double-standards.)

You're not the only one who's observed that about the "RAW IS LAW" component of the PFS playerbase.

Thanks. Given how often that comes up I really should have it bookmarked.

I tried the old shirt in the cargo shorts pocket trick at one of Mortika's tables once and it was promptly disallowed. After explaining the shirt was to small and producing a copy of the Paizo order for a larger shirt it was allowed, and the roll was still a colossal failure. A few thoughts shirt/folio rerolls-
1- I now have 9 shirts and a folio and often end up at last minute games without any of them. I have a very erratic work schedule and have started to make emergency gaming kits with stuff like dice and a shirt for each of my cars.
2- I was hoping to make some motorcycle vests with a shirt on the back and embroidered GM stars, con badges and something to identify your local club. I hope that would be legal, or at least allowed.
3- Wearing Paizo shirts to PFS events strikes me as preaching to the choir, I would like to see rerolls for a photo of you wearing your shirt somewhere public or exotic to help spread the word. It also fun to meet other players while traveling, and can sure make a layover more tolerable.
4- How about some Paizo headbands, soccer style scarves or offical zubaz?

I'm not dissing the idea, but the first thing I thought of when reading this was "here is a picture of me in the amazon with a goblin on my chest, can I get my reroll?"
|
That is exactly what I am proposing. Lots of bars and resturants give free stuff to folks that take pictures of themselves wearing advertising t-shirts out in the world. I ran in to two separate people at Gen Con that were promoting Minnesota bars I know and love. It might do more to spread the word than sitting at a table with 4 other people in the same shirt.
Plus, think of it as a real life Paizo faction mission.

That is how I ask my PbP folks to get their reroll.
(hasn't happened yet, but I ask :)
