And your SuperStar wondrous item. :)

So here's the thing. I have a story idea for a fiction piece, but can I finish it prior to Dec 31st? Not sure.

I just had shoulder surgery, so typing is awkward and one handed for the present moment, and once I'm able, I've got paid stuff that needs to be finished. We shall see. :)

This might help, but I doubt it knows how to format a stat block.

By that time I will have (minor) hardcover contributor credit :P

I don't want to pursue module writer path anyway-and as a few people said in the past-there is no point in starting in Super Star if you intend to drop after third or fourth phase anyway.

I've been watching all the gothic horror inspired stuff I can find over the last few days and doing some Wikipedia research, and I've started kicking a few things around.

I don't own and right now can't afford to buy Rule of Fear or Carrion Crown (though I just got Prince of Wolves from the library), so I was wondering if somebody familiar with these books could tell me if there has been any official content concerning séances? Or in other works for that matter. I searched the PRD and PathfinderWiki and didn't find anything, but I want to make sure that if I go that route, I'm not stepping on established stuff.

Also, has anyone done anything with the "linguistic history of Ustalav" yet? I did a master's degree in history, so that idea appeals to me :)

I haven't seen anything specific to séances in the Campaign Setting stuff, Owen. However, they are touching on aspects of the concept in the rules for Occult Adventures. The Medium (class) uses a ritual called a seance [sic] to "allow spirits to inhabit his body, granting him unearthly powers."

As we mentioned above, we probably want to stay away from the Occult Adventures material. I'm not sure how you'd approach the topic without running the risk of stepping into territory that is likely to be covered elsewhere in the future.

In Carrion Crown book 1, The Haunting of Harrowstone, there is a device called the spirit planchette which is essentially a Ouija board. Rules for communicating with spirits with that particular device are given in the description.

Guess I'll stick to one of my other ideas then. Thanks for the heads up.

On the first page, I'm a little confused regarding "location".

I don't know if anyone else has brought this up, but it says:
"Side Trek Seeds: Side trek seeds are short outlines that provide GMs with ideas, either as side treks for a Pathfinder adventure or as mini-adventures set in Osirion."
The location says Ustalav though. Was this a typo?

That was TOTALLY a typo....sorry about that. We often just recycle the call for submissions text, make the necessary changes and updates, and post it. Looks like I failed on my editor duty right out of the gate.

So, to reiterate....not Osirion. This issue, #13, is USTALAV. Everything about this issue should tie in to Ustalav!

Cool. Thanks for the update, and PM response.

Tim, would it be OK to use a name already published (nothing more) for a WoW or other piece of work?

If it is name that is official content of another IP.....no.

This sounds like a gray area to me, so you might want to send us an email explaining this.

I really feel someone should do an article incorporating triskaidekaphobia - perhaps some sort of special numerically based "unluck" magic. It would be terribly issue appropriate.

Actually, I'm feeling that I'm wanting another Side-trek Adventure for this issue. (Not a side-trek seed, which are the 350-word summaries for adventures).

My main wish would be for this adventure to be centered around a small village being terrorized by a vrykolakas (AP#29), and how the party must find this menace, fight it, see it possess a small furry critter, and somehow track it to its resting place and end it for good.

This is, of course, an entirely selfish wish, since the vrykolakas was my very first Paizo freelance assignment. ;-)

Ah. Then in that case John Reyst needs a little help with the creature regarding errata and Horrid Visage regarding how it should be used. I also noticed that "Feed" was not included in the pfsrd description.

It might be my creature, but Paizo makes the errata calls. I suspect if the Vrykolakas ever makes a major bestiary, the issue of those missing abilities will be resolved. Again, it's not been clear if they intended for Horrid Visage and Feed to be completely removed OR if they cropped the descriptions to save print space, and thought that those abilities were standard Universal Monster Rules.

However, for the purposes of Wayfinder, we can make those decisions....and include the abilities as they were intended.

Hmmm, life sucking pestilence - how utterly evil :) - Love it.

If I recall correctly, the adventure limit is 3k words?

Not much for a town, but can we link it as a side trek to existing places in an AP (like carrion crown I am thinking), such that the side trek becomes an AP optional "add-on"?

I was toying with an idea where the adventuring party on awakening in a derelict house in the wilds find themselves converted to soul shards, an essence spirit form with limited real world interaction.

They find they bound to the house environs and need to investigate and solve a murder of time past to get their bodies back - played out through programmed scenes triggered by their soul shard state as they go from room to room.

On successful retrieval of their bodies, the denouement could be the battle against your vrykolakas? I was going to go with a vampire, but this could be cooler instead of the bog standard abandoned house denizens ;)

Good idea about utilizing some village or place already developed, so that this could be a true side trek. Not especially wild about soul shards and out of body adventures. That's tricky, and really doesn't play well with what a vrykolakas is about. This can really be a simple hide and seek mini-adventure.

I've been extremely busy between school and NaNoWriMo, so I'm going to be packing all of my writing into the last three weeks of the year (I have a short fiction piece, a gazetteer, and a Side Trek Seed planned) - my last studio session has a due date next Monday so I'm going to post my final revisions for the semester, then start fleshing out my three outlines for #13.

Still waiting for AP #28 to arrive to get a better grip on the rules and fluff concerning possession.
After that I hope my WoW will be a cakewalk...

After some recent exchanges online, I've got a possible organisation, and another earworm that won't go away, inspired by real 17th century events that could have an analogue in Ustalav, and explain how the country went down the crapper, but I need to really sit down with the official timeline to be sure I'm not barking up the wrong tree.

So, just a gentle nudge to everyone.....deadline for #13 is December 31st at 11:59 pm. Right now, we have 10 submissions total. Still lots of time, and the field is wide open as to the types of articles we need....we simply need ARTICLES, period!

I know this coincides with a busy time of the year, too. We are hoping that we still get a good solid number of submissions, to make this issue one of the best.

So.....SUBMIT!

I have some ideas (finally) that I'm going to get to work on today. One is a new rules article that essentially functions like a baby player companion to the University of Lepidstadt, and the other is a weal and woe for characters from said institution of higher learning. I have to go do some research and then I should be able to get down to it.

Edit: Okay ignore what I said, because there's enough Lepidstadt stuff out there that I don't have access to that I can't really do the rules thing without fear of just replicating stuff that Paizo has already put out. I also can't get a solid enough feel for the university itself. So back to the drawing board.

Hoping to do a monster. I have a couple deadlines coming up this weekend, but after that I'll see if I can settle down and get the beast done.

I might turn something you way. Another WoW article and potentially a side-trek adventure. In other words, my normal contribution. Ping me if you want to discuss it.

I will submit a third piece by the deadline so I am tapped out.

So, some proposals and discussion about creating PACG scenarios under the community use policy on this thread here

I still need to check with Paizo regarding the card game content and the CUP, but I am very open to creating a PACG Scenarios article type, similar to the Side Trek Seeds article.

Word count limit would be 350 words or less, and the scenario MUST MATCH THE THEME OF THE ISSUE (so for #13, Ustalav). If the scenario creates new cards, I would limit it to ONE new card, either a villain, or henchmen. The article itself could only accommodate art for 2 card images, so it would be best to include an alternative existing card if we can't use the new card (otherwise, if we have picked our two scenarios with new cards, everything else is rejected).

Thoughts? Does this seem like a cool addition for folks?

Personally: no, as I've yet to play the card game and would at this moment scroll right over to the next article.
Regarding Wayfinder's popularity: if such articles draw more people to Wayfinder and Pathfinder in general I'm in!
And I imagine if it's similar to the side trek seeds, I could still use the ideas presented therein for my tabletop game.

Since creating exact duplicate cards are difficult (due to printer ink colors and such) I would recommend not having new cards. You can, however, use existing location cards to create a new scenario and offer new rules to use during that scenario.

For what I'm contributing: I have an article already finished (I'll send it this weekend) and I'm working on "Ustalav is for Ustalovers," a sandbox Side-Trek Adventure of 1500 words.

I'll need a 3rd submission... any requests? If not, I may go for a bestiary entry.

I just noticed the advertisement deadlines are:

"RESERVE YOUR AD SPACE BY January 31, 2014.

Are those dates listed with the correct year?

Yeah, 2014 unfortunately sucked for a lot of people, even if they had good parts throughout. One friend's still renovating their house after a fire broke out. And since the house is also their studio, they've been without work for a bit too. Insurance couldn't cover everything either, because loopholes. >_>

I'm just waiting to hear back on my first entry to make sure it's up to snuff, and then it'll be sent out. Likely by Friday.
