Can a druid get "stuck" in his animal form?

Rules Questions

Hi all. New Pathfinder player here. So far, loving it!

I had an idea for a campaign I'm running which involves the party coming across a wolf or animal of some kind that is actually a druid that is "stuck" in animal form, maybe from a curse or something. Then the party would have to figure out how to remove the curse, saving the poor druid.

Are there existing, specific rules for this kind of thing?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

At the moment, no. But, I could see him as a victim of bestow curse. In the spell, it does state that you can make your own curse that fits the power level. And I think that would be appropriate for a third/fourth level spell.

Thank you much Odraude! I will do just that!

This thread reminds me of Animorphs. :)

Since it's an NPC, you don't need rules for it. Behold the Power of Plot.

However, having a good starting point is nice. Especially if you want to at least be in keeping within the rules first.

Devil's advocate... be careful or the players might start asking how they can make a druid "get stuck". It's always good to have an idea how a plot point happened, be it wish or something.

'An ancient curse, the likes of which nobody has seen for a thousand years ...'

You're done. Seriously, every fantasy campaign with magic has stuff that just IS, that the PCs can't do.

Regardless, Zhayne, it's better for a DM to stay within the rules where possible. There's no reason to plot-power something if there is mechanics for it anyway.

In the Kingmaker AP (first part I believe)

Spoiler:
there's a cleric who is cursed into becoming a grizzly bear.

You could look at that for some more specific details.

Thanks CzarGarrett, and everyone else for the input.

If the druid was feebleminded while in animal form, that would probably do it.

I don't think so, Wild Shape has clear durations. Further WS is a Su ability, so its use won't be affected.

Liberty's Edge

If you can't come up with an existing rules resource, creating one is an excellent approach.

Your players will have a better experience, and you will give them a better experience, if you clearly understand the mechanism behind the plot. It will allow providing clues, knowledge checks, interactions with libraries or sages. It will also help with a plan and background for whatever they do, and what challenges they face, in order to help the Druid break out......and as a twist, why he shouldn't be released....

Silver Crusade

Baleful Polymorph could work. If not, then Polymorph Any Object.

Seems like cursed version of Druid's Vestment could do something like that.
