S&S without OP,Guild, Society etc.?

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Hi,

I'm a bit confused about all these new community playstyles like organized play, PF society, PF guilds and those class decks.

I have played PFACG solo with six characters (still 7 scenarios to go) and liked it a lot, but I am not interested in any of these community playstyles.

Will I be able to play S&S without OP,guild, class decks etc?
Will characters from the S&S baseset or the character expansion be weaker or less interesting than class deck characters?
Can I as a solo player use the class decks in a solo game without OP etc.?

Hope you can help me. I'm a bit frustrated about all the OP/society things and fear, that the nice gameplay from RotR will be modified in a way, solo an family-players can't enjoy.

Yes you can play S&S just like you can play ROTR now. The classes that were at Paizocon on demo from S&S were comparable to the ones in RoTR so I don't think you will need to worry about them being weaker or less interesting. :)
You can always use the character decks in homeplay as well if you wish. I don't think you need to worry about PFS/OP making home games any less fun. They are meant to give you additional content, not detract from the core game. :)

If you purchase the S&S base set along with the add-on characters deck and the 6 adventure decks, you'll have the same thing that you do with RotR in the S&S adventure path. If you want all of S&S, that's all you need.

The Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild is something you join if you are interested in organized play and having your character in the Pathfinder Society. Nothing to purchase.

However, if you are running a character in the organized play, you'll be expected to use a class deck that can be purchased. It will give you the option of 4 different flavors of that class.

The organized play can be run "officially" through the PFS channels that have been mentioned ... OR you can purchase the scenarios after they come out and can be run outside of the official organized play.

(Again, you'll be expected to have purchased a class deck.)

The class decks can be used within the adventure path scenarios. I can see if you wanted to run one of the iconic classes in the class deck rather than the ones in S&S. But class decks are not required for the S&S set outside of organized play scenarios.

Yep—it's all optional fun enhancement. The baseline play style for S&S is right where RotR was*: A Base Set, a Character Add-On Deck, and six chapters worth of adventure, so if you don't opt in to any of the new stuff, you won't be losing any ground.

*Okay, in the interest of full disclosure, we did make *one* small change to the baseline play experience for S&S, and that's that the Skull & Shackles Base Set includes *five* scenarios before you begin Chapter 1. Runelords had only 3, so you get two more scenarios in S&S than RotR.

That's awesome! 10 adventures with the base set makes me very happy, and that's the first I've heard of it :)

Plus S&S has 15 more cards than in RotR, because of reasons.

because of 3 adsitional adventures and ships?

It's because our new printer prints the cards differently, so we had room for 15 more cards, which we gleefully consumed.

Nice! I am sure that we will all appreciate this.

Hello,

thanks for the clarifications.

I am looking forward to the new baseset. Is there a preview of the new classes (baseset+character addon). I know the names, but it would be nice to know more about them. If they all are based on iconic classes from PF, maybe I should look for the RPG version of them.

Greetings,

If I remember correctly, in the base set is Fighter, Bard, Rogue, Gunslinger, Magus, Oracle and, finally, Swashbuckler. Gunslinger and Oracle are in the Advanced Player's Guide. Magus is from the Ultimate Magic. And Swashbuckler is brand new in the upcoming Advanced Class Guide.

As far as the Add-On deck, Druid, Alchemist (APG), Witch (APG) and the brand new Warpriest. Again in the upcoming Advanced Class Guide.

I hope that helps. They have noted that Valeros in RotR won't be the same one in S&S. Different abilities, etc. But still a fighter. (Same with the other 3 iconics.)

We'll be running some Paizo blogs about S&S soon.

Looking forward to seeing said blogs. I am on the fence about S&S.
