As a fan of western animation, I sometimes like to think, "How would I reboot a dumb kids show like The Carebears if given the chance?"
The obvious answer is to make Carebears carnivorous.
I personally see my playstyle as being closer to that of a Carebear than a...Darkheart, in that I favor consensual PvP and am much more likely to pick a fight with a bandit than a merchant. Will I still enter into nonconsensual fights? Probably. But most of them will be with people who I know can take it. It makes the stakes feel more real.
I think there are a lot of Carebears with teeth on this subforum, and I think just calling them "Carebears" is oversimplifying. There are plenty of comments that these people are unprepared for how the game will "really" turn out, that they're just going to ragequit before the end of EE.
But I don't think many of them are going to quit unless the game really does become a gankfest—which would be bad. Even the most hardcore PvPer in our community has to realize that we need our moments of quiet and peace just as bad as we need our bloody fields of battle. If we lose our hungry hungry Carebears, the community will be worse off in the long run.
We don't want the Carebears gone. We want them to have bigger, stronger, madder bears protecting them.
This culture of derisiveness isn't productive, nor is it accurate. Carebears with teeth are everywhere. So are wolves with wool sweaters knitted by their gran-grans. Just by virtue of being active on this subforum, people are ahead of the curve. We shouldn't be rooting against the Carebears, or mocking them for being unrealistic. We shouldn't be hoping for them to disappear.
We often hear, "What will the game be without its villains?" Well, what will it be without its victims heroes?

It's certainly not my goal to see them gone however certain communities have made bad policy decision after bad policy decision that makes it clear to those of us who know what it takes to survive in these kind of conditions that their success will end as soon as there is an actual game to play.
There are other communities catered to the same style of play making much wiser decisions. It is my opinion The Magistry will be a power to be reckoned with and that Ozem's Vigil may also prove to be wise enough to be one of the communities that endures.
I just do not want to see the blind leading the blind, because that is a path that surely will lead to the loss of many sheep from this community.

Carebear With Teeth
Hmmm. So what you're saying is the pvpers are going to turn the River Kingdoms into New Jersey?
I don't think I need to play a game about New Jersey. I can get there in half a day or so for real.

True. Several of my best friends ARE from NJ. ;)

The Mammoths have been ruined by imposter poser fake hipster would-be mammoth riders. They're like the people who start rooting for the Yankees even though they live in, like, Minnesota, just because the g&#*!*n Twins never win anything.
Interestingly enough I noticed a Minnesota Twins 1987 World Series Commemorative Plaque on a coworkers wall today.
Now, I like in NY, Yankee central, except for us Rebels (Mets fans) and apparently 1 lonely Twins fan.
