Resume of Netherlands - Argentina: ZZZzzzzZZZZZzzzzZZZZZ
What waste of 90 minutes.
Now THAT's the football we all know and love. Not this billion-goals-every-game abomination this World Cup was threatening to turn into. ;)
An entirely uninteresting spectacle... I was rooting for the Netherlands, so I guess it kinda sucks that they lost the rock-paper-scissors contest at the end, but Argentina has actually done well (in an incredible boring way) this world cup, so getting to the finals is not undeserved.
Personally, I'm rooting for Germany now, largely because they have (against all odds) started to play some interesting football, and I like that to pay off so others will get the same idea.

Well,... I've been saying it since (actually before) December and the Group draw: Brasil are overrated. They are flat-out not as good as the great teams. Germany would have beaten them even with their best player -- Thiago Silva. (Neymar, like the team as a whole, is grossly overrated.) This squad will be great in a few years when Oscar, Neymar, Hulk, Luiz and those defensive-midfielders are a bit more experienced but for now -- no way they could beat Germany.
.
Crap, I predicted Nederlands to beat Argentina. Ah well.
.
It'll be REAL interesting to see Argentina face Germany, knowing that not only could they win the World Cup -- but do it IN Brasil -- and perhaps most significantly, by defeating the team that Humiliated their grossly overrated arch-rivals in the Semis.

Argentina looked tepid against The Netherlands, especially Messi. If they play that way against Germany, the score will be 1-nil or 2-nil in favor of die Mannschaft because German goal scoring is simply more potent than the Dutch. The only hope for Argentina is to open it up and hope Messi starts to play better.

Yeah, well, still top 4.
[Edit]I'll give you this: this team was not good. There were better options in many positions who were not in the call up, and it showed on the field. Fred and Jo are the worst Brazilian strikers that ever played in a World Cup (that statement is backed up by numbers), and they are there because Felipão likes to have people he trusts on the team, and he had problems with a lot of other players who were left out. On top of that, Brazil is at a stage where it needs to recycle its professionals, because we're still playing in the same way we did ten years ago. That's not that different from where Germany was in 2000 after the Eurocup Fiasco, which served as an opportunity for them to reinvent their football system. I won't fool myself: there's no way we'll ever be able to match the German planning in the next decade, and that's the part that worries me.
That said, there are teams that are always contenders, and Brazil is still on that list. As is Italy. As is France. As is Holland (personally, they are the ones I feel are overrated, even if they'll probably kick our asses on Saturday). As is Argentina, who hadn't done much since 1990. Every now and then, they will put on a shameful performance, like France in 2002, or Italy in 2010, or Spain in 2014. Losing 7x1 in the semi-finals still means reaching semi-finals. It is not normal, and it is not representative of what that team is. Yet, it is true that Brazil is walking on a tight rope and needs to rethink much of its structure, which is rotten on the inside, to get back on the right track.
I really enjoy watching this Germany play, and I think I said earlier in this thread that I considered them the best team in the tournament. Heck, before the cup started, I bet my friends that the final would be Germany X Argentina. But this is football: being the best team does not guarantee victory, and going through a dry spell does not mean you are done.
All in all, whoever comes out the winner, I'll be happy. I'm rooting for Germany, but I put my money on Argentina to make sure there would be a silver lining should they win. ;) Joking aside, I woldn't be upset to see Argentina win. Sure, it would mean years of provocations and jokes, but it would be just another thing to spice up our intricate dynamic as rivals. An academic once said that "the Brazilians love to hate the Argentinians, and the Argentinians hate to love the Brazilians". I don't know what that means, but hey, they say the guy is an expert.
Oh, and Neymar is one heck a good player, go check on YouTube (and he hasn't even peaked yet).

Magically avoided spoilers on Argentina vs. Netherlands and watched the game last night. Exhausting and stressful! Vamos Argentina! (This is also a bit of a sanity-saver for me, since Wesley Schneider going up against Qadira doesn't sound like a relaxing post-PaizoCon weekend.)
Any word whether Silva will be back for the third-place game tomorrow? I'd love to see Brazil win back some pride there.

Was Silva hurt? I thought he missed the game due to 2 yellow cards/red card. If if was a card issue, then he should be available to Saturday's game I believe, yes?
I'm also curious how that game will go. It seems to me Brazil will either be so demoralized and defeated mentally and emotionally that they will play horribly OR they will be so desperate to save face after their 7-1 crushing that they will come out and play with an absolute vengeance. I don't see much of a middle ground between those two scenarios.
I'm not a huge Germany fan, but I respect the heck out of them and I REALLY want to see Germany over Argentina on Sunday.

To confirm what Coelho has said; many people here on Spain was astonished that Brasil didn't want Diego Costa there, after the great year he has on Atletico de Madrid. And now he is with the Spanish team. Not that he has made a good Cup, but he can be vital for Spain on the future, specially with Torres and Villa showing their age.
Brasil will be back, there is no doubt on that. But it will cost them some time. Hope Spain will take less.
Great luck for Argentina and Germany ¡¡ I'm sure whoever won will be a good champion. I just wish that the final will NOT be a horrible game like the Netherlands/Argentina.

Fred and Jo are the worst Brazilian strikers that ever played in a World Cup (that statement is backed up by numbers)
It's also backed up by common sense.
I'm still new to football (4 1/2 years) but I know they are just not good compared to the best players in the world.
There are teams that are always contenders,...

Agreed that Brasil are contenders -- still a great team. Just not as good as (my list) Germany, Spain, France, Argentina, & Holland -- in that order. And it helps that the Cup was IN Brasil for them. But they were never gonna beat Germany -- I predicted back in December that Holland would knock them out in the Round-of-16 -- we'll see what happens in a few hours from now.
Regarding what you say about Holland & Argentina being also overrated, I dunno -- most pundits I have heard have said that they are good but not great, making me disagree with them but I'm just me. Yes Argentina would have to seemingly field 11 strikers to put their 11 best players on the pitch -- but I strongly posit that their midfield is very good and their defense is pretty good. Add to that the best group of strikers in the world BY FAR, I have Argentina as #4 in the wrold -- ON PAPER.
And I have Holland #5 -- with a significant gap between them and Brasil at (from my list) 6th. But like I said -- most pundits don't put them quite that high. ....Anyway, the (somewhat) silly point I was trying to make is thus: If most pundits don't feel Argentina and Holland are super-teams, how can they be overrated?
I bet my friends that the final would be Germany X Argentina.
Nice!
I had Spain beating Germany
(Even though I have Germany #1 & Spain #2 on my list (Best teams on paper), I hoped Spain would win, cementing them as the greatest squad in the history of the game -- which I still think they are, just too passed their prime.

Not me.
And Thiago Silva will be back, like Marc said.
I hope he teams up with Dante -- as much as I am a fan of David Luiz as a person (especially now that he's gone from Chelsea!), he's not the beter Center Back for Brasil along side of Silva. Dante is. Brasil should have started every game with Thiago Silva and Dante at CB and David Luiz (maybe) one of the defensive midfielders.
But I sure hope Nederlands beats Brasil later today.
(despite having 24 hours LESS rest & recovery)

Where?
Brazil.
Not only are they not in the final, they lost the third place match. And, Argentina is a serious rival.
Add with what the Brazilian government spent on this World Cup (especially given the current Brazilian economy), and now with "nothing" to show for it.
An Argentine victory would be rubbing salt into the wound.
