So, I know this mostly GM fiat but...
Should Wish grant permanent access to SLAs? I've got a PC that wishes to get a permanent, 1/d Plane Shift.
Since it's a one on one game (and she's my GF), I'm thinking I'll just allow it.
However, it raises an interesting question. Should Wish be able to grant a permanent use SLA? Or a SU or EX for example?
I've heard of other DMs allowing it in their home games (I know it'd never fly in something like PFS), players wanting their characters to get some ability of some sort off a monster. Such as a 1/d dragon's breath weapon (appropriately statted out for the PC's size), the Grab or Constrict ability, etc.
What do you guys think? I'd consider it if they paid for any foci or materials as well as the Wish, on a case-by-case basis.

I'd allow it, especially since she needs a way to get back to whatever plane she started on. If you're unsure, consider making it a specific plane. There are similar feats, like Elemental Jaunt, and there's precedent for items that give you feats for money.
I believe the old limit on Wish making magic stuff was 25k worth safely, DM fiat beyond that.

Hmmm....depends on what she wants the plane shift for. I mean, being able to go to any plane is a rather powerful tool.
But to a limited number of planes? That has actual precedent. Just look at the fetchling. They get the ability to move back and forth between the material and shadow planes at level 13 (the same level that the wizard could learn that spell; clerics get access to it much earlier though).
And the 4 elemental native outsiders get access to the feat Elemental Jaunt at level 15. (not seeing a return trip in that feat though; it does give planar adaptation to you though).
So, if your player is at a high enough level to access wish (or at least high enough level to know people that can do it), then I would not say that a limited version would not be entirely out of the question. If you are dealing with a powerful outsider like a genie as the source...well, you could get creative about 'how' the player gets this ability. A sudden change to native outsider might be interesting (although it could be annoying if they were used to certain buffs). Maybe something like Scion of humanity Aasimar, where you count as both? I know that I personally could certainly be down for suddenly having flame hair or something (although it would partially depend on the character concept/image).
Another idea is that you could further limit it to a 1/week usage. That discourages abuse where someone would use it as a 'nope' button every time combat turns even slightly sour. With a long time between jumps, you make it a much harder choice. I mean, surviving for a week on the plane of Fire or Earth could be an adventure in and of itself (maybe prepare some short little modules for some random adventures they could have; it could change the pace up every so often).

Good advice folks.
And yeah, I already figured I'd allow it for this particular adventure, though I know she doesn't abuse options, I'll bump it to 1/week as a test run.
Also, yeah, I was mainly asking for both advice in future situations where some in a group would want it, and if it was doable by the wording of the actual spell itself. So... Advice/Rules question. With the advice being determined by whether or not it's allowable by raw or rai.

Actually thinking about it....although it would not work in this preexisting campaign, I think that a 1/week planar shift could serve well as the main feature of an entire campaign...if the characters couldn't pick which plane they go to.
With this kind of Sliders-esque mechanic, you could dump some low level adventurers into a wide variety of planes, having them just spam the SLA each week trying to get back to their home plane.
Of course, there would be a variety of considerations this would require. Clerics and oracles would be straight out, since they could get the spell needed to end all this by level 9/10. Having a witch as the healer would delay things until level 13, when the 9 level arcane casters get plane shift.
I would also imagine that you would have to make heavy use of mephits, since they are one of the few types of widespread creatures that are common, neutrally aligned, and weak enough to serve as the semi-friendly inhabitants of the towns that the party would have to go to in order restock.

If you're not comfortable with a "permanent" SLA, you could always grant multiple but finite uses - you know, like charges. She gets three plane shifts, whenever she wants, and then they're gone. Since limited wish can grant a one-time plane shift this seems about commensurate with the relative power level of a full wish, even if it exceeds the book value of wish (which would, again, only grant one shift.)

I've decided to make it 1/week for this particular game.
That said, all this advice has me seriously considering allowing people to get items with permanent SLAs enchanted onto them for a serious fee. The cheaper the cost, the longer the recharge time.
Also, I love that idea Iemeres. I'm so swiping that for a game lol.
Thanks for the help guys!
