devilish influence

Advice

I have a player at my table, his pc secretly worships Amodeus and the pc seems to get killed often. He always seems to be in the wrong place, wrong time, so i had an idea that this last time that he died and the party brought him back, that he "brings a little devilish nature" with him.

So ~ just looking for advice what that should be...any advice would be welcome.

An imp tumor familiar?

The Exchange

I'd start with "blackouts" during down time - brief catatonic moments during down time, not in mid-combat. These can progress to periods of full-on diabolical possession. I'm ordinarily not a fan of having a character's body do things (except breathing and sneezing) without permission of the player, but when a player repeatedly says "Thy will be done" to a Lawful Evil deity, he wants to feel that he's playing with dangerous forces.

I would also look at the diabolist prestige class's 'damned soul' penalty and consider applying it.

And/Or do what Lincoln Hills suggests.

And/Or require him to facilitate a bit of devil summoning - if he's not a wizard/cleric/etc with a Planar Ally or Planar Binding spell, have him act as a bodyguard to an npc doing the actual summoning. This can be done out of session time, so the rest of the party remain unaware. But perhaps some of the consequences become apparent. Eg unexplained wounds 'Sorry guys, I was mugged'; or perhaps the party realise that the local law enforcement people/local religion are investigating some sort of mysterious murders. I wouldn't make it part of the 'real plot' but just as an aside. Of course, the party might want to investigate and the devil-worshipper might try to dissuade them from doing so...basically, make his 'cool, secret' become more than just a bit of background on his character sheet.

Sovereign Court

Have some sensitive people - outsiders, clergy - react to him AS IF there was something about him they can sense. Like when the priest is delivering a sermon, and suddenly stares at the PC and blanches, and then goes on pretending he's not terrified.

Human Ranger 4/Inquisitor 4

I didn't want to start with any outside appearance yet. Just a sublet hint that he would notice. Maybe a small bonus to something, that as it grows it becomes evil and others would start to notice.

maybe starting to do some dreams? dreams of future or nightmare.. or maybe dreams with the devil's eyes(he see what devil see)?

PS: i'm not a fan of bonus... if he get a bonus, i'll have to pay it in some way..

Nice ideas...so I am thinking of using them all. In a way, so I think I will base it on his level progression.

At the moment, he will have nightmares, but notice some small bonus to something. If he uses it, he will then notice a small craving...for HUMAN FLESH. The closer he gets to the temptation of cannibalism the larger the bonus. If he does eat, he will get a bigger bonus, but also contract an Infernal Tumor.

Based of the old cancer mage. As it slowly grows, it gain INT, makes his touch cause minor wounds and all the while corrupting him. In the end - he'll have a choice to continue with its bonuses or atone and redeem himself.

Guide to becoming a Demon

This book, for the most part, isnt PFS legal but it has some really juicy items in there for demon worship. Additionally, it details the process of becoming a demon and the time periods involved as well as the sacrifices that must be made. its an excellent book.

Edit: In re the nightmares, have him make a daily Will save, say DC 15, that if he fails then he is shakened by the nightmares for the day.

(sigh) I haven't seen any PCs attempting to become an angel since Dark Sun had avangions. Me, I'm going to set out to become an inevitable!
