My siblings and I grew up having the occasional hamsters, gerbils, dogs, and a parakeet growing up, but we've had oodles of cats. Currently, I have "inherited" (long intra-family-"grar" story) my sister's family's three cats, all mixed-breeds. There are the two 5 yro sisters, Sprinkles (orange and white tabby) and Summer (all orange mackerel tabby), and their grumpy bite-y 15 yro "aunt" (no genetic relation), Nero (Maine Coon mix, long-haired brown mackerel tabby).

We had dogs and cats both growing up but since moving from Texas to Tennessee we've given away all the cats and just have dogs now.
The current pack right now is:
Hunter (Male Blue Heeler/Pointer)
Ranger (Male Corgi/Collie)
Brutus and Bridgette (Male and Female purebred Boxers)
and Ace (Male Boxer/Black Lab)

One dog, Titus, 14 y/o kerry beagle, technically he's not mine. While I was in the Navy my roommate at the time adopted him, with plans for his sister to watch him during deployments. That fell through and the only people we could find to care for him were my parents. Once I moved back home, he's been with me ever since. Unfortunately he has chronic renal failure. It set in a about 6 months ago and he's doing a little better now, but it's rough.

I have two dogs, each about 60 lbs. One is a hound/pit mix and the other is a boxer/pit mix. They're not the brightest bulbs on the tree, but the hound mix, Rosie, is my bestest girl. She always has to be near me. The other one, Buster, is more independent and standoffish (we think he was mistreated before we adopted him), but he does the cute, goofy stuff.

Quite a few dogs. I'm terrible with breeds, so FYI.
Princess growing up. She was a german shepherd. Died from too much chocolate, which as one of the guilty offenders made me sad as a child. Definitely one of my favorite animals, and snooty for a dog, I swear!
Daisy was next. I can't recall what breed she was, but a beautiful dog. Sadly she was hit by a car.
We had another dog after also named princess. Some kind of hairy breed thing with short legs. I was not a fan of her. We only had her for a few months, never quite fit in with the household. We had gotten her from some family friends who ended up taking her back. There was a story involved but for the life of me, I can't remember it right this moment.
Our next dog was named dusty. Golden retriever. That dog was just plain awesome, but way too rambunctious. Loved playing with her, protective of kids but too rough. My youngest sibling was born around that time and Dusty just turned out to be too much to handle. A family friend with a farm took her, died a few years back.
Currently back home we have two dogs. Princess (I know, I don't name 'em) and Pepper. A funny pair. Pepper is black lab and something else mixed, Princess is Shepherd and something else mixed. Quite the opposites. Princess is get up and go type while Pepper just likes to lay around.

That sucks! Hope he has a lot of fun with you! Beagles are cute
He's not a normal beagle. Imagine a dog that looks exactly like a beagle, but it's the size of a golden retriever. There are other differences than just size, but at first glance he does look like a beagle that's had Animal Growth cast on him.

Snoring next to me on the couch right now is Lilly a 60 pound lab mix, black with a white chest and paws, that we rescued two years ago. She had mange, bacterial and fungal infections on her skin and was half bald and red with inflammation. Now she is active, happy, and incredibly smart. One of her favorite activities is to pull me on rollerblades. She can cover 2 miles in just over 8 minutes and I weight 190 lbs.
We also have two black and white (tuxedo) cats named Harry and Weasley. Yes, named after the famous ones. One rescued and one is a stray. Weasley loves Lilly and head boops her whenever he can.
We also foster kittens so at any given time we might have a litter upstairs.

Never heard of a blue heeler.
Apparently that's not their "official" name, but here you go

I hate to be a Negative Nancy on this thread, as I am also a pet/animal lover, but...
Be careful sharing your pets' names on a public forum, as they often comprise security questions and passwords. If you do share, make sure it can't compromise you.
That's why you shouldn't use the real answer to security questions: they become an easy-to-use back door by anyone who spends 20 minutes on your Facebook account! Make up some consistent fake answers to common questions, and keep track of them.
As for pets: I have two cats: a 16-year-old male orange tabby, and an 18-month old female black shorthair. Both are pound cats we adopted as kittens.

~grins~ The Tree Frogs, the lizard, and the fish are my wife's pets. They are in her office, so I do not hear them most of the time.
As for the cats, I think they think of ME as their pet. Or slave.

We have a single cat that we rescued from my parent's other cats. She is very sweet, but doesn't stand up for herself, so she was at the bottom of the pecking order. As a single cat she's great and very happy!
We also have a 20 gallon tank of Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. We started with 6 sub adults. A year later, we traded all but 12 to a reptile pet store for a new 20 gallon tank. The roaches are great pets for toddlers.
-They don't get injured if you drop one.
-They don't bite.
-They don't carry transmittable diseases.
-They make noise.
-They are edible. (I recommend freezing sub-adults overnight, bake with a little olive oil and some seasoning, pull off the legs before you eat them. CRUNCHY!!)
-They eat vegetable scraps, so they are cheap to feed.
-If one gets stepped on, oops! You still have 199+ more.

2 dogs - a 3 yr old Burnese mountain dog; and an 8-year old mix. We think there is some Burner in the mix, but at the vet one time another dog owner said he saw some Australian (?) wolf hound in him. (Although not sure if that's really a breed.)
Both are pretty much carpets, and the Burner especially will let you do darn near anything around him and not even flinch.

We've had to step down our pet level since moving, sadly. We currently have a rescued Dachshund named Farley and an Okeetee-phase Corn Snake named Vincenza.

Wow, Vincenza is gorgeous! Is she a confirmed female?

We had a pure white cat called Daisy - she passed away last year she was very very old. She was my wife's cat. Even though don't think we should have cats as pets in Australia as they devastate native animal populations, I did love Daisy and much to my wife's annoyance Daisy had designated me as her human.
My daughters have been asking for a new pet, we have just had a baby so we are going to wait a year or two.

Spoilered to avoid derailing the purpose of the thread:
Regardless, if you can get something that's not invasive, that's best. My justification for keeping tropical roaches is that I live in New England. If they ever escape, they will surely die in November!
