Can rangers wear mithral full plate?

Does mithral full plate still count as heavy armor, particularly concerning whether or not rangers can still use their Combat Style Feats?

Or should I forget about taking heavy armor proficiency on my ranger.

Yes they can wear it.

However as you probably are aware - you would however need the proficiency to avoid taking the ACP on your attack rolls.

I would consider taking a level of fighter instead of a feat, as you will gain a feat plus Heavy Armor, but that's up to you.

It counts as heavy armor for the purposes of proficiency only.

Anyone can wear any type of armor, the question is what penalties do you take for doing so?

Mithral heavy armor is counted as medium for all purposes except for armor proficiency. Lacking proficiency in heavy armor would mean you take the armor check penalty to attack rolls and any skill check that involves moving.

Rangers lose their combat style feats in heavy armor. I just wanted to make sure that mithral full plate didn't count for that

Mithril makes it one step lighter, so it COUNTS as medium and ragers can still be swanky. You still need heavy proficiency to avoid ACP penalties though.

Mithral heavy armors only count as heavy for purposes of proficiency.

Mithral: Mithral is a very rare silvery, glistening metal that is lighter than steel but just as hard. When worked like steel, it becomes a wonderful material from which to create armor, and is occasionally used for other items as well. Most mithral armors are one category lighter than normal for purposes of movement and other limitations. Heavy armors are treated as medium, and medium armors are treated as light, but light armors are still treated as light. This decrease does not apply to proficiency in wearing the armor. A character wearing mithral full plate must be proficient in wearing heavy armor to avoid adding the armor's check penalty to all his attack rolls and skill checks that involve moving.

Note the other limitations language followed by the called out exception of proficiency.

I'm aware. As I stated, you would take a penalty to attack and skill rolls if you wore mithral heavy armor without the proficiency feat, but you would otherwise be fine. If you take the feat, then you effectively have no penalty for mithral heavy armor as compared to medium armor.

And, you could still wear normal full plate as a ranger, or a wizard. Or whatever. You can wear whatever armor you like. But you might take penalties to things for it, like spell failure chance. Or losing access to feats.

Yep, it's medium, except for proficiency.

Mithral Hellknight Plate, and instead of Heavy Armor Proficiency, you take Extra Traits, and take both of the traits that reduce ACP. Enjoy +3 to your physical skills over Mithral Plate.
