Peacock familiar?

Advice

Silver Crusade

I will be joining a new campaign in March and had a character concept that would have a peacock familiar.
What kind of stats would it have? What bonus would it give me?
Thanks for everyone's help.

I would assume you want the male peacock. Not sure about stats.
I guess somewhere between a parrot and a dog.

I would probably have it give a +2 to bluff due to it's bright distracting nature.

I would re-flavor the dodo. The peacock, like the dodo, is a flightless bird (well, mostly - it can fly, but not well - sort of like the turkey). It's also about the same size as a dodo...small sized (rather than tiny, like most familiars).

The dodo gives the caster a +4 initiative. I would RP it as that the enemies are so startled to see a peacock enter combat that it lowers their initiative!

Stats for the dodo can be found here: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/animals/dodo

Toucan I think would be more appropriate than dodo. +3 diplomacy seems more peacocky-y. Just don't have him flying around and try to avoid Froot Loops jokes.

I second the dodo. It's nonability to fly seems pretty much perfect, and initiative is a good tool, and it's the right size. The toucan's ability is more fitting, but you'd have quite a tiny peacock.

Dodo stats may work well enough (but peacocks CAN fly, and should be able to -- not very fast or with much maneuverability though). However, for a skill boost I would rule +3 to Perform. Performing is what peacocks DO, after all.

+4 Initiative for a dodo? Who thought of that? Seems more fitting for a hummingbird.

Could see it doing any Cha-based skill.

+3 bonus to swag.

Personal experience with peacocks would suggest a bonus to Perception checks, they have been used for burglar alarms for thousands of years.

Yet, we still have no chicken familiar.

No chicken stats at all.

Should be a +6 to strut

What are you implying.

Dodo stats would probably work for chicken, too. If it was a gamecock the initiative bonus would even be appropriate! With Improved Familiar, you could have a Celestial or Fiendish chicken. And there's even precedent in fantasy fiction for talking chicken familiar / animal companion (Billina the Hen).

Thank you everyone for the great input. I'll print this out & run it by the GM

There were stats for a chicken(s) in the Serpent Skull adventure path of sorts. (Not really, but they mimiced them)

At some point you end up at some kind of chicken fight in some village...

I think they used the stats for the hawk with the young template applied, or something similar... not sure, someone with the book can check.

Oh?

Do tell...

Peacock familiars grant knowledge of the spell Argus Agony. Sorc/Wiz 5, Evocation [force], best described as Magic Missile on steroids.

I knew someone in college who kept a turkey for a pet. Since it wasn't overstuffed and did not have it's wings clipped, it looked like a somewhat inflated white pigeon.
