GM Dak - Shattered Star recruitment

Recruitment

51 to 100 of 115 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Actually, my character will wind up being versatile between ranged and melee as a shadowdancer, alogn with his shadow companion. Won't be horribly optimized, but might be fun to play!

Also, a coupla questions:

I'm guessing Leadership is allowed in this campaign.

Do you allow monstrous cohorts? See: monsters with class levels, using their CR-1 as the NPC level? I realize it's unlikely, and I certainly don't plan to do it at this point, but I like to know things, I suppose.

I'm *ok* with Leadership, keep in mind though that the campaign is heavy dungeon delving and that may effect your followers wanting to follow you around places. As such, if you want to use them primarily for downtime activites I would be more open to it as I don't want to bog down posting by having a bunch of extra bodies you are posting about. As for monsterous, I'm not saying no but it would definitely have to make sense and work with things that are going on.

Thanks for keeping an open mind! Like I said, this isn't for me (necessarily...I might change from being a shadowdancer, who knows) but just so it's out there.

Also, edited in description and history for your perusal.

Grand Lodge

Just wanted to let everyone know that at this point, I am going to be deploying at any time. It is very likely that I will not be able to post at all after tomorrow or so, for [b]up to[b] a week. So just forewarning. I should be able to tell before I leave, but in case I can't, within the next 40ish hours (from this post), I will be with no internet. I would really love to get in on an AP, and this one is one of the top of my lists, but if not, I completely understand, and no hard feelings. It looks like you have plenty of applicants, so either way, good luck and great gaming.

Faelyn here. I'll submit Aeron for consideration... I'll have some good fluff up tomorrow. I've got to wake up at 4:45 AM, so sleep is calling. I need to fix his skills and change up his traits. Other than that... he's pretty much ready to roll.

Although, I may switch it up and go barbarian w/ Invulnerable Rager to try something different... I'll let you know!

Silver Crusade

Most of the crunch is done for Um'bala, the replacement character that I'm looking at making. I'm leaning towards going Magaambyan Arcanist, but that can change. I have the workings of a backstory tumbling in my mind, and I'll post that when I have a chance to work on that tomorrow.

And here for consideration is the Two Handed Fighter, Alexander Mavis of the House of Wrath. Straight from Cheliax and Lawfully evil as promised. He is completely fleshed out, but I would be more than willing to change out anything you request, save for the alignment. He will not be taking cleric levels and will remain a solid fighter throughout the entirety of the game.

Is this game Still Recruiting? I'd like to play a half-elven Fighter / Wizard eventual Eldritch Knight build...

Dot if this recruitment is still open.

Dimral's background and personality are finished (mechanically he should also be OK). Let me know if there's something I did wrong, ty.

It's just donned on me that the background I went through the trouble of writing was eaten by the forum deities, so I'll actually have to do it once again. My sincerest apologies.

Here is Void Dragon's submission. A sorcerer who focuses on being a face and controller of the battlefield. The crunch is done, but I'm still working on the background as my first post got eaten and I am going to change it from what I had originally planned. I will have a background up sometime today or tomorrow.

Opps... finished <SUNAMBER's> personality. Forgot to add it before.. now the character is complete!

Silver Crusade

Dotting. I'll submit two characters shortly.

Sorry it took so long.

Concept:

The character I have in mind is something like the classical Elven Wizard/fighter. I plan to dip into fighter or ranger (most probally ranger with her history) and then continue as wizard. At higher levels, what can be expected from her is a medium melee char that uses reach weapon (no whips, I don't like then I find it a big bill to mount a char based on it ) or longsword when the situation demands. Also I plan to go into evoker (or maybe a generalist, I'm not sure), but not entirely focused into combat magic.

Background:

I did not read the player guide yet. But if the background do not fit, I can adapt it.

Born from an ancient elven Family, Elk’lyn was banished from home as a child. She carried an ancient curse in her blood. She was able to see in the dark, and the family patriarch, could not have that dishonor in his house.
For many and many years, she lived in the streets in a human city, often hiding during the day and going out during the night. She loved climb to the highest place and keep looking at the moon and stars, Elk did not remember anything from her family beliefs, but she loved the moon and the light.
The years passed and she began to use her knowledge of human cities to get a job as a guide. Often she did not received anything for her services, for she was still a ‘child’, but she was patience and in time, she began to work for a caravan master as a bodyguard. She was fast both in mind and in body, but frail, so they began to train her to use bows and other kind of weapons. She training as a child in her elven home came back to her and she was able to master the use of many weapons, melee or long range. She lived in that caravan for many years. The caravan master and his wife, took her as hey ‘daughter ’, and for the first time, she knew what was to have a family.
During a trip to the distant city of Sandpoint, her caravan ambushed during the night and caught off-guard, could muster little resistance as they were slaughtered. Left for dead in the road, and only awake days later in Sandpoint to find that only she had survived the attack.
Obsessed with the bandits that killed her parents, Elk stayed in the town, Learning its secrets and trying to get information that can help her to track the killers.
She was a frequent presence at The Rusty Dragon, and once, after drinking more than should, Ameiko, the lovely Ameiko was able to get her history. It did not took long then. With the Sheriff Hemlock help, Shalelu tracking skills and Kendra resorces, they found the bandids and brought then to justice.

Personality:

Elk is somewhat a traumatic children, she never recovered from her banishiment from her family, so she think herself as lower position to others elfs. She likes to talk, and do not have that arrogant/distant elf status. She likes to joke, has a strange way of thinking something and saying the complete opposite of that. She likes freedon and is not shy to say if she feels it in danger.

DM:

I like to present concepts and backgrounds for applications. The crunch i think its better to do it with the others players, so we can see what the group need and adapt to it.

Hm my post got eaten... so really quickly I am going to be cutting off applications tomorrow, Fri Feb 7th at noon GMT-6. We've had a lot of great applicants and I figured I would cut it off before I had too many people I had to let down. As such if you are interested in applying please get your character in before that time frame!

In that case, best of luck to all applicants!

While it is his full stat block, I've been having difficulty saving Alexander's contents to his profile, and as such, will post his full background and history at the House of Mavis just before the dead line later today. I apologize for taking such a long time to do this.

As a question, what does everyone think of his build? It's rather straightforward and he takes great pride in his use of the scythe.

Silver Crusade

@Alexander: I have a buddy who has a very similar build (went oni-spawn tiefling for some interesting benefits). It's otherwise fairly by-the-book to maximize your damage. As a fun note, at level 1 first mission, he dealt 63 points of damage with a crit to an otherwise aggressive halfling barbarian, much to the party's delight, so have fun with those Nat 20's!

I do see a few of minor issues:
1. Your Scythe to hit is too high; it should only be +5 (perhaps you had Weapon Focus first, but changed it to Furious Focus and forgot to correct?)

2. You should get some sort of ranged weapon, whether it's a sling (dirt cheap), chakram, alchemist's fire, or whatever. Just need something in case melee isn't an option.

3. Since it appears you aren't going to be a face character, why not drop the Cha to 7 and make your Wis 10. At least not start off with a penalty to your Will save if you can help it.

4. Completely unnecessary but potentially hilarious Carry a hooded cloak and a holy symbol of Norgorbor or Pharasma. Just randomly point at people and say Soooooooon......

Background:

PATHFINDER CONFIRMATION JOURNAL: UM'BALA

12 Pharast, 4712 AR

I have arrived on site at the dig in Hyrantam today shortly before noon. Never have I seen such desolation. Close proximity to the Eye has caused swells of water to swallow all but the tops of this once-proud city. Where once massive towers stood tall over the coastal town, the tops are now the only part above the waterline, and rope bridges criss-cross between them. The loss of life here must have been, if you'll pardon a dark pun, unfathomable.

But to dwell upon the darkness of the past goes against the teachings of the Magaambya. Move forward, and spread the light of understanding - that is our credo, and one that I find matches well with the goals of the Society. "Explore, Report, Cooperate." I endeavored to keep these three watchwords in my mind as the boat pulled up to the makeshift dock outside a particularly crumbling edifice, covered in the sludge of ages. Standing on the dock was a man that I recognized from the briefing - Konrad Telemarane, the Society's liaison here in the Sodden Lands. A tall and lanky Ulfen, he seemed quite out of place here in the hot and humid expanse. Still, he was my superior, and I knew it would be his judgment on whether I passed my Confirmation or not. He held the key to my future, so it wouldn't do to make a bad first impression.

"Welcome to Hyrantam," he said, swatting at the midges. "I've been told to expect you. The Society's timing couldn't have been better either - I think we might have found something a few days ago."

My eyebrows shot up as he mentioned this, and my pace quickened as his did. "Oh? What is it? A cache of scrolls? Or maybe a previously unknown magical item?"

Konrad shook his head. "I don't think it'd be wise to say out here," he said as we began crossing a bridge. "Too many eyes and ears that might hear." As he got off the bridge, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me off with a tug far stronger than I would have given a man of his build credit for. As he did, he pulled his smallsword and brought it down upon the rope binding nearest him. It was then I noticed that a pair of men were crossing as well, and they had drawn blackjacks from the folds of their cloaks. They were hurrying to close the distance, but Konrad's blade severed the rope and sent the men to the waters below. "Now that you've met the local color, let's get you to the dig."

13 Pharast, 4712 AR

Konrad has brought me up to speed. The building we currently occupy - the top of it, at least - used to be a repository for documents from the Lirgen government. Originally, the team's objective was to find a way into the lower chambers and see if any of the vaults were intact. If they were, they were to find a way to remove the water and breach the vault. About a week ago, the team had delved deep enough that they found a secure vault with warding magics still strong enough to keep the contents safe. They hadn't breached it yet, but were preparing to do so when they got word that I was coming.

"And my job will be to explore it?", I said, far too eagerly. I immediately regretted saying that, but managed to keep from wincing.

Konrad was silent for a moment, then continued. "No. We have experienced teams for that. Your job will be to catalog whatever we find. I understand you have a good understanding of historical record, as well as your own background in arcane matters. You will utilize those, and report your findings. Understood?"

I nodded, and prepared to get to work.

(The next several entries detail mundane record keeping, and these are not included.)

19 Pharast, 4712 AR

I've noticed something unusual. I had catalogued a set of documents from over two hundred years ago, and the penmanship bears an uncanny resemblance to Konrad's. At first I thought it was just my mind playing tricks upon me, but I've read through several of these documents. Both Konrad and this nameless bureaucrat make similar word choices when writing, enough so that a pattern has arisen. I think there's something strange going on with Konrad, and I don't think confronting him would be the best option. I think the only solution is to explore the vault tonight, after everyone has gone to sleep.

20 Pharast, 4712 AR

It is over. Nobody even noticed me slip downstairs to explore the vault, and as I descended, I heard a rhythmic sound, like metal upon stone. As I approached, I saw light spilling out from inside the vault. Inside was Konrad, and he had a pick in hand, breaking through a section of wall. Based upon the amount of damage the wall had sustained, I guessed he had been working upon this for days while we slept. He gave the wall another hack with his pick, and the blocks crumbled. He tossed the pick aside, and shone his light into the revealed chamber. "Where is it, where is it!", he cried, urgency in his voice. His eyes widened, and a relieved grin broke over his face. He withdraw a slime-encrusted crown, and he caressed it as though it were a lover. "Ah...there I am," he said.

It was then he noticed my torchlight flickering. "Who's there!", he said, pulling his smallsword. "Show yourself!" Rather than do so, I threw the torch behind me, and pressed myself against the shadows. My ruse worked, and Konrad began rushing out into the hall to give chase. He nearly ran into me, and I quickly chanted some words of power. Scintillating colors flashed from my hands into his eyes, and he threw up his hands to shield himself from the blast. The crown clattered to the floor. I knew it had something to do with his actions, so I grabbed for it.

Konrad tells me that only a few moments passed by his reckoning, but I swear it must have been longer. The moment I touched the damnable thing, I felt an unclean presence attacking my mind. You may have taken out my puppet,[I] it said in a cold voice. [I]But you will suffice. Once I crush your will as I did his, I will retake my place in the world. There is so much to do, so much left undone. A white hot lance of pain shot through me, and I saw spires of a forgotten city, obelisks carved with strange arcane symbols, and all sorts of terrifying creatures walking and shambling through its streets. I wanted to ask what it was, who it was, but I couldn't. Speech would have taken my focus away from shielding my mind from this entity's mental onslaught.

You resist, still, but your mind will cave. I will take control of you, mageling, and together we will rebuild. I could hear a distant weeping sound. Somehow, I knew the tears were my own.

If it had not been for Konrad's intervention, I likely would still be under the control of whatever was in that crown. He had knocked me against the wall, and flung the crown from my grasp using his blade. I panted as I slumped to the ground, my robes soaked with my own sweat.

Konrad gave me time to recuperate after this incident. Both of us, actually - he says that he'd been subtly guided towards the vault since they stepped foot into this building. Once the vault was unearthed, it had taken direct control of him. We were lucky to be alive, and free of its possession.

I do not know what this crown was, or how it came to be in a forgotten vault in the Sodden Lands, but this much is certain - it is of Thassilonian origin. I can say this with at least a small degree of certainty, as I have been speaking the language with perfect fluency ever since my brief encounter with the crown. Until that time, I'd never studied the language. It's fortunate that one of the other Pathfinders on the dig had studied that fallen empire and could translate for me. If it's at all possible, I would recommend destruction of the crown - and if it's not, then it should be locked away and forgotten about. It's sentient and evil, and whatever its intentions, it would not bode well for the Inner Sea.

END CONFIRMATION JOURNAL

PATHFINDER STATUS: APPROVED

Description:

Um'bala is a short and portly man with the scruff of a beard upon his chin. He wears his hair in dreadlocks, and usually wears striking colors, as is the fashion in the Mwangi Expanse. He smiles easily, and there are laugh lines engraved upon his face. He wears a shining ruby ring upon his left hand.

Personality:

Um'bala is first and foremost inquisitive. He has a driving need to know things. His studiousness has paid off, as his time in both the Magaambya and the Society has shown. While he's definitely exuberant, he still bears the scars of his ordeal on his Confirmation assignment. He doesn't relish the thought of running into something as malevolent as that again, but he also knows that he's unlikely to find something that evil again any time soon. He's not especially cautious, as his inexperience in the field hasn't taught him many of the lessons he needs to learn for field work.

Well for <SUNAMBER's> Build he will be going likely Fig 2 / Wizard [Fire Elementalist] 5 / Eldritch Knight 10

He will be taking the Item Creation feats of Craft Magic Arrms and Armor and Craft Wondrous Item eventually. Basically a fighting spellcaster with full access to Arcane magic. I think I will take his Sword as his Arcane Focus for spellcasting. The Familiar is cute.. but I noted that most Runelords did not take a familiar... he IS after power like them.. though hopefully he will learn to constrain his desire to succeed tempered with a purpose to uphold the Good!

It is my intention at some point int he game to have him fully embrace the path of good and give up his anger at the world to serve the couse of rightness - switching alignment slowly through role-play to Chaotic Good.

Maybe even find some romance for him in game to heal his lonely heart.

Well those are just some goals... an an idea of where he's going 'character-wise' as a hero - hopefully eventually a Mythic Hero!

EDIT: But his very Next level will be Wizard at 2nd level.

I'm just planning for Mach to be a straight-up single-class Rogue.

Hmm.. ok.

Modified the tail end of Alaerin's History to intro him to the Pathfinders...

"As all adventurers – well the skillful and lucky ones at least, Alaerin finally made his way to Absalom and it was here he met the Pathfinders. Offered a chance to travel the world seeking fame and fortune struck a responsive chord in the wanderlust of the young half-elf and he joined entering the rigorous Pathfinder training regimen. Now he is ready to make his mark upon the world ready to face its secrets and wonders!"

Sound good?

Background is now complete in the profile.

Grand Lodge

Rushing Nimt Heidmarch to completion. Urban Druid, pressed into service to the Society from an early age by her Aunt and Uncle. Her Dire Rat, Scruffy, is her best companion.

I'd like to submit Rommin Hawkridge, a human soldier originally from Taldan. For an idea of what he'll be like, I'll mention that he's planning on taking the spirit totem rage abilities as he advances. Thanks!

Grand Lodge

edit: Urban Druids lose the animal companion, of course.

Checking in. Looking forward to seeing the final list.

Fighter level = Bab +1

18 Strength = +4 bonus
Weapon Focus = +1
= +6

So I'm correct, at least. I just don't think you saw the weapon focus feat is all. I was talking to a guy at some point in the previous week that said that he would actually be against me, as a player, taking furious focus as a feat, if only because it was overpowered. I don't think he understood the stipulation of not owning a shield...

I do believe I'll keep it, however, as throwing out +9 damage is quite exciting on it's own. Especially if we run into goblins! I'll just skip the unconscious phase entirely. Haha.

Seems like we have pretty similar characters in mind, although I'm aiming to get 2 weapons fighting with earthbreaker and klar instead of going 2 handed weapon. I might get a couple of evels of barbarian too since it fits Shoanti in my opinion.

I also noticed it. There's yet another person that has an Earth Breaker, and even more so, another man that has a Greatsword. There's a few of us that have the highest possible to-hit without divine or magical intervention... so I guess it will just come down to our backgrounds.

You guys, however, have the added advantage of not being Lawfully evil with a history of serial murder prior to his engagement with Chelaxian Law enforcement, so, here we go, eh?

Okay this is ridiculous. I've submitted a very long, very winded background about Alexander exactly 4 times now, and each time I get taken to the front page of Paizo, and I return to find the Background completely eaten. In light of that, I'm going to post it in the reply box within the next half hour. My sincerest apologies once again.

Silver Crusade

Uhm.. you have a character limit of 100000 or so.. you need to cut down on some text.. I had the same problem for this character... my MAIN Pathfinder Society - Organized Play character...!

Life in Cheliax; Background:

In the Southern-most reaches of Cheliax lies the exceptionally quaint, lucrative, and auspicious House of Mavis, Venerators of the Fallen Angel, Lilith. Out of these seven houses, Alexander belongs first and foremost, quite proudly, to the 2nd House of Pride. Prior to the establishment of the House of Mavis as a minor faction, Alexander merely sought out enemies of the house and subjugated them, and if possible, outright killed them. He became quite the headhunter, seeking out local holy clerics, his blade cleaving through their necks as well as their faith.

While he truly enjoyed this, and frankly kept to himself, his habits and shortcomings were still rather well-known. Alexander sought those that were of good fortitude, and worthy of being talked about. Truly, nothing stained his blade worse than the blood of the unworthy of such skill as his.

With the installation of the Mavis house as a faction, he has had to peel back on the murders, and finds himself walking back to local lodges with half-dead, greasy fools over his shoulder more than just the heads, now. While he doesn't particularly enjoy such a thing, the man frequently finds conflict now, something he is quite fond of.

Before long, Cheliax found itself in a rare moment of peace and low-key political fighting. Given the present circumstances, Alexander found himself rather restless... Sensing this fact, the House was gracious enough to send him elsewhere, to the far away city of Magnimar.

Learning this, he took to the books, learning Thassilonian hoping to find something interesting enough to bring back to the House to add to the treasury and further his renown within the house. While he enjoyed learning Thassilonian, he still prefers the wonderful language of Infernal, or Abyssal, both of which go over quite well in the Locale of Cheliax. Taking up his scythe, he finds himself off to Magnimar, ready to expand the renown of the great House of Mavis, as well as his own. His blade is steeled, and he sharpens it, even now, as he moves slowly towards his destination, a wide, eerie smile across his lips.

While it is a qwerk, Alexander has developed the somewhat strange habit of speaking directly to his weapon. He has named it "Isis for reasons that people aren't quite sure of.

"I do pray there is someone of merit in this godforsaken place..." he said, looking deep into the reflection upon his blade. "You'll get your turn, lovely... oh yes."

Motivation:

First and foremost, Alexander is in Magnimar for only 3 reasons. To further his martial prowess against strong enemies, complete the tasks that are assigned to him in the name of the House of Pride, and potentially return to Cheliax with a powerful artifact, if the situation presents itself.

Personality:

Alexander is aloof, alien, and altogether strange. He projects, upon first impressions, an aura of Arrogance and pride. Later people will learn that he never stops doing this, and frankly doesn't much care about his somewhat refined, cocky demeanor.
While he may be arrogant, he rarely blends that with insubordination. Alexander is reasonable, for certain, and doesn't doubt himself in his actions. He does, however, have quite the issue with taking orders from un-proven equals.

Moral Line:

Out of all the things Alexander will not do, it merely depends on the martial prowess of the other party. Those of magical aptitude fall into this as well, and I need not mention the divine. More than anything, Alexander enjoys slaying worthy opponents. It doesn't matter if that person is 13 years old. If they prove themselves worthy, he will cut them. Not otherwise. The Innocent and defenseless he will not cut down. Every fight must be worthy. Memories are golden.

Shoot, I wish I had seen this earlier, I'm going to try to get a submission thrown together by then, although I have to work in the morning so we'll see.
Edit edit: On second look, druid doesn't really look like it works well in this path, going to think of something else

This alias is what I've got so far, I'm going to have to try to finish it after work (hopefully I'll be back in time) and fix up the formatting a bit.

I plan on him being sort of a merc, a bit greedy but not overall selfish.

And now we wait for the decision to be made.

Good luck to everyone...

Yeah... I'm not really feeling all that hopeful. There are Soooo many submissions... I'll likely not be picked, but best of wishes to all who took the effort to make a character and submit!

Some VERY creative writing!

Best of luck, all of ya!

Good luck to you all ^_^

Good luck to everyone as well!

Yes, good luck, everyone!

Same to all of you!

Description:
You see a slight and nimble looking elf of slightly above average height with dirty blonde hair wearing a chain shirt and a grey cloak, wielding a rapier with a spellbook at his side.
This is the best picture I could find quickly, although that's not really what he's wearing I can't figure out the image tags atm so here's a link until i figure it out

Personality:
He is a mercenary/adventuring sort, he is a greedy one, but mostly in the material sense, he is not so self-serving as to abandon his fellow man for the chance at a small gain.

Background:
Originally hailing from Kyonin, he has been travelling west, selling his sword and exploring dungeons, eventually ending up in Magnimar.

I think that's everything

Thanks everyone for the submissions I'm looking forward to go through all the nitty gritty! I'll be reviewing and make my final decision hopefully tonight but at the latest by Monday morning.

Just a note on my process:
I like making a balanced party but that isn't my key deciding factor. As one of my current groups can atest that has no healer. I'll be reviewing fluff and the main goal is to make a party that will provide for interesting RP in realtion to one another and the game. Once I make my selections I'll crunch everything in hero labs (if you are selected and using hero labs sending me your .por file is appreciated :D) and provide any feedback on adjustments. Then I'll open up gameplay for a bit of meet and greet and we'll move on from there.

Well, 2d6+6 damage on a reliable base is really "OP" early in D&D (one could argue warriors and melee classes are way more powerful than spellcasters for the first 5 levels or so). Anyway it's not really the highest to hit bonus possible early: str 20 at lvl1 is possible so the best possible to hit bonus is +7, +9 if you are a barbarian during rage.

That said good luck everyone with final selection!

Nice list. Although I don't understand why you list the roles for some characters, and not for others. Mine would be caster/healer (A Druid can be nearly as good a healer as a cleric) As for my character, It's nearly finished, will finish the background now, and the last crunch bits over the weekend.

@Shalafi2412: If you submit a eye-catching character with good fluff, you'll always make a chance.

Edit: Stupid Paizo. They made a animal companion which fits Urban Druids very well, but this archetype loses the animal companion.
