Brawler weapon proficiency an lack of shield proficiency

Advanced Class Guide Playtest General Discussion

Odd that the brawler has access to weapon proficiencies involving heavy shields, spiked shields and light shields but not actual shield proficiencies. Was this an oversight?

Nope, it was specifically mentioned they can use them as a weapon but not defend with them. It's funny.

It would have been easier to just give them gauntlet, punching dagger, sap and spiked armor. Now it's only going to confuse some people.

BTW, I'm surprised anyone would argue that giving the brawler four specific weapon proficiencies (which excludes any other type of weapon added in other books) is "easier" that just giving them proficiency in an entire weapon group (which is automatically updated when we add new weapons to that weapon group).
