I have the first two hours recorded but there were still people there after 6 hours when I checked back in.

Goblin Squad Member

Oh wow, didn't expect that much discussion. I should have checked in after work; might have caught the tail end of it.

I also eagerly await further details. :)

Any chance someone could send me a PM to take care of that?

Per the request of the admins, that TS password is available only to people with pfofan.com accounts, and is available to those people here.

Goblin Squad Member

Summersnow did make it, and I'm glad, as I now have a better-informed idea of who he is as a person, beyond the avatar, username, and vague impression I got from a couple posts many months ago. It was great to hear from everyone who made it, but that was the pleasant surprise which stood out to me. Voice tone makes a huge difference, since it helps to keep us from reading our own emotions into what someone else is saying.

Divine magic:
Don't force non-clergy (roles other than cleric, paladin, druid, oracle) to be dependent upon the religious organizations.
Focus on things like skill access which can be gotten by other means, so no one is obligated to join a particular group for the sake of stacking bonuses.
Differentiate the religions via RP-style elements, and allow 'generic' clergy of an alignment so folks can emulate being a member of a church that is in the lore, but not yet represented in the game.

Factions:
Some religions may also be PvP factions (Iomedae vs. Asmodeus), and there could also be factions based around other strongly-held ideologies.
Both religious and ideological factions would likely have a few set codes of behaviour, while non-ideological ones which care more about results than methods could just be the local chapters of a more generalist group. For example, the local Pathfinder Society and Aspis Consortium lodges might fluctuate in how they deal with one another, but if an Eagle Knight of Andoran becomes a slaver, the organization itself wouldn't change, he'd be removed from it.

Keovar,

Thanks for the highlights.

Everyone,

For those who weren't present, Harad made a recording, but I'm not sure how far along he is on editing it or making a (hopefully shortened) transcript for general consumption.

Also, it was about on a Tuesday that we attempted to pin down the last topic of discussion. Here we are again. I would like to see this continue, since once a week seems like a manageable interval, though the day and time does not have to remain the same.

So...same day, same time (Saturday, 11/9 from 3:00-4:30 pm Eastern Standard)or do others have a suggestion?

And...what's the topic?

Goblin Squad Member

I can say that I'm scheduled to have this Saturday off again, though I have no guarantee I'll make it. :) Still, I'll try my best to be there this time.

Lesse, topics...

Could talk about bounties, assassins, and tracking; how we see these as being implemented in the current plans, how they might best be done, etc.

Caravans and trading between settlements. Would probably also talk about caravan/bandit interactions.

I can't think of other ones at the moment.

Goblin Squad Member

Factions?

Goblin Squad Member

That's a 9 pm Saturday evening start for CET - actually doable seeing as I have no intention of going out this Saturday night. I may pop in and say hi to those I've met and meet a few more PfOers.

Goblin Squad Member

I think factions would be an interesting topic, though we have little in the way of hard facts as to how they will be implemented in PFO. We certainly could discuss the pros and cons of how they have been used in previous games and which of those, as well as new ideas, we would like to offer to GW when we post the results of our discussion.

Speaking of posting...did you (Harad) plan to edit and post our last chat?

Goblin Squad Member

I've started but I have two hours recorded. (and they were still talking after 6 hours) I'm going to try and break it up into topics if I have the time. If not I'll post a link here by Friday.

Goblin Squad Member

If you need help, let me know.

Those weren't meant to be highlights of the whole talk, just some points I remembered.

A lot of that time was just random topics, not necessarily PFO or even gaming. Turns out even geeks aren't one-dimensional. :P

Goblin Squad Member

do people just join randomly or only during events?

Goblin Squad Member

3 - 4 is usually game time down at the local store, maybe some munchkin pathfinder or Pathfinder adventure card game this week but I'll stop in afterwards and see if anyone is still hanging about.

Goblin Squad Member

Though the numbers are generally fewer than during a scheduled event, there are usually a few people (sometimes quite a few) on PFO Fan TS in the evenings. I tend to pop in once or twice in the evening when I have time just to see if anyone else is lurking about and have fallen into some very worthwhile discussions by doing so.

That is a relief... Can only an Euclidean point accurately locate a geek?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Here is the recorded sessions from last Saturday:
Attonement & Alignment
Faiths for non-clerics, factions
Faiths Motivating Content
Faiths and Alignment
Faiths and NPCs, PvE/PvP
Faiths and Soulbind Points
Spells and Refreash

Goblin Squad Member

Thank you for that, Harad.

Goblin Squad Member

So shall we go with the same time (3:00-4:30 pm Eastern Standard Time) and discuss Factions?

Goblin Squad Member

Alternatively, since the expanded video came out in the blog after last Saturday's discussion, we could discuss topics related to that video.
1) What do you like about the user interface (UI) as shown?
2) What do you think would be appropriate expansions or enhancements to the UI that was shown?
3) The fight with the ogre showed that collision detection was not active when the video was made. Are you for or against collision detection, and why?
4) This was derived from a dev comment on something seen in the video. It was indicated by Vic Wertz that "4-legged critters are part of a future milestone". What would you like to see in 4-legged critters?

If we choose to discuss these topics we would not be rehashing area already covered last Saturday (even though I suggested the factions topic on Tuesday).

Goblin Squad Member

Seeing as it's already Saturday, perhaps we'll just show up and see where it goes.

Goblin Squad Member

Just finished a 90-minute discussion on TS about, oddly enough, factions. We discussed the published factions from the Faction Guide and how we thought they might or might not fit within PFO. Since this is essentially a single topic discussion the editing will be eaiser. I hope to have it up by Wednesday.

Goblin Squad Member

Thanks for recording again, Harad.

Goblin Squad Member

Here is the TS Discussion from 2013/11/09

It is one file (60Mb) where we discuss Measuring Faith more More on Factions.
0:00:00 Discuss Hob's Measuring Faith Thread
0:05:33 Begin discussion on Factions
0:16:51 Begin discussion of each faction from the Faction Guide
0:17:29 Actually count number of factions by alignment
0:49:47 End faction Readout and go back to general faction discussion
0:59:13 Discuss inns and outposts as faction headquarters
1:14:18 End of Recording

Please let me know if you like the single file of the multiple file formats.

Spurious expletives on cats and egg sucking dogs redacted.

Goblin Squad Member

From a listener point of view I prefer the one file format with notes on what section starts on what point. On a slightly related note. If you encode it in a Bitrate of 64 kBps there is no noticeable quality drop compared to 128kBps for something like a TS recording but you still about half the size of the file.

Goblin Squad Member

Thank you for all the work, Harad.

Topic for next meeting? I'd like a topic that draws more people, in that part of this effort wasn't simply to discuss, but to provide a chance to meet more posters in a different venue. Suggestions?

Goblin Squad Member

Thanks, Papaver, I'll will give that a try regardless of number of files.

Goblin Squad Member

On a slightly more related note. If you want this to be a podcast I can make it happen.

Goblin Squad Member

maybe. Would that be something for Gobocast?

Goblin Squad Member

I'm not affiliated with the gobbocast. I'm talking about your own website, podcast feed and generally your own presence. I'll be on team speak in about 15 minutes if you dudes are interested.

Goblin Squad Member

Good sound quality. Harad, and GJ to the participants.

Goblin Squad Member

I think we'd be happy to host on Gobbocast as well if you'd be interested. More ears is a good thing. :)

Goblin Squad Member

The offer had been put out there. I personally told Hobs we could host them in a streaming format, but he said you were handling that Harad. We are already set up for it, which is why I offered. I left it alone when he said you were handling it.

This IS the kind of thing that we made Gobbocast for afterall. Its up to you, I just wanted to make it clear that I've said at least twice before that Gobbocast was a possibility.

Shoot me a PM if you are interested.

Goblin Squad Member

While Gobbocast is already a thing that is well known and respected and you dudes have most of the usual podcast infrastructure one of the downsides of being on another podcast's feed is that you are just that, "the podcast that is also on the gobbocast's feed". Maybe this would benefit from being a separate entity.... or maybe is would benefit from using the Gobbocast's infrastructure. I don't know xD

Goblin Squad Member

I don't see how this is significantly different from Krow's Community Spot light. Hobs already has access to Gobbocast. As long as the conversations are civil and not derogatory we have NO problem hosting them and being considered a part of Gobbocast. It could have it's own intro and everything. We never wanted Gobbocast to be just me and Krow, but we do have an audience. That's how we got Mr. Davis blogging for us.

By all means, if everyone wants this to be its own thing, I surely won't take offense. I'm just happy to see other projects like what we envisioned taking shape.

Goblin Squad Member

It is of note that I do not represents this and was just pointing out that there are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches.

As to how this is different to Krow's community spotlight. Since Krow is not the same person as Hobs ( or is he ? Dun dun dun! ) it's say it's segnificantly different. In my experience the hosts make the podcast. Otherwise a podcast is a podcast is a podcast.

Goblin Squad Member

Actually, I have proof Hobs is the secret purple in Pax charged with maintaining our Lawful Good organization. (Dun Dun dunnnnnn)

Goblin Squad Member

And I have proof that while in a chat with some of your people, you sneaky <deleted expletive> changed my Pax shout box color to purple, captured a screen shot of it, then proceeded to giggle among yourselves about your little trick. I am still a proud wearer of the color orange (Friend of Pax status), contrary to your warped senses of humor. :P

As to the podcast, it doesn't matter to me who or where so long as I'm not the one who has to figure out how to run the recording thingy. :) My only thought is that it might be easier for people to hear if it's on a continuous track (such as the Gobocast podcast format) rather than downloading each part as a separate file. For those who like the time stamped topics, that could certainly still be provided for your "fast forwarding" pleasure (though you'd miss out on chunks of Harad's really snappy voice...I believe Nihimon would call it "radio quality").

My real concern, as always, is that it gets posted to where ever it does the most good for the community - where people can readily find it, listen, and then add to the conversation.

As for Papaver's "dun dun dun"...Krow and I are not the same person (if we are, I've been talking to myself all this time...), though given his extremely busy schedule, you could put forth that theory, since he is hardly ever on when I am.

Goblin Squad Member

Before this turned into a podcast location debate, I asked the question - what should our next topic be about. Saturday is almost here. Suggestions?

One of the more "lively" topics has been game financing models and what should/shouldn't be in a cash shop. Or would we rather tackle a topic that hasn't had as much discussion so as to flesh it out further?

Goblin Squad Member

I am going to recombine the first Saturday pieces, make it monophonic, and re-sample to reduce size. I'll try to get that done this weekend.

As for topic, I sort of like the idea that we talk about stuff that hasn't been beat to death in the threads. That could have us come from a place where we are not having to defend previous positions, and might enable a different perspective.

Goblin Squad Member

I think you guys should talk about either alignment or pvp! *chuckles*

Goblin Squad Member

Aaahhhhh! <makes sign of a cross with fingers>

Goblin Squad Member

How about combat maneuvers? There has been a thread on Stuns/Stun Locks. Maybe we could discuss the pros and cons of the trip, grapple, bull rush, disarm, overrun, and sunder mechanics from Pathfinder as they might (or might not) apply to PFO.

Goblin Squad Member

That and take a look at what class skills from advanced players guide ultimate combat etc could augment the type of combat GW is looking to bring.

Goblin Squad Member

I thing for the sake of discussion, we would not consider combat maneuvers as non-lethal combat or dueling. I see them as more tactical to disadvantage your opponent and advantage yourself. Much like attacking an enemy in terrain that favors you and not them.

Goblin Squad Member

I may be running a bit late, but I'll try to be there by 3:00.

Goblin Squad Member

I was actually going to suggest the current financial model GW looks to be proposing in combination with what we know about EE.

Will there be enough value there to make this a $20-$25 a month game or is GW shooting themselves in the foot?

Goblin Squad Member

We can probably talk about both.

Goblin Squad Member
