Hey!!
Recently fixing to start a new campaign and I love playing Gnomes. Though I've never really played a melee and Paladin has been catching my interest.
Only issue is most of my group when I play with Paladins are the lawful stupid/if it's evil just kill it mentality(Which I don't wanna play). So I'm wanting to have some fun with this character/class combination and was curious on what you guys have come up with before or ideas.
Thanks!

Don't play Lawful Stupid if you don't like it. Maybe you could make your paladin a Gnomic lawyer that never kills things because everything must first be judged. Or a Gnomic Comedian (with his high Charisma) with Antagonize that specializes in insulting all evil. You are playing a Charisma based melee class in a roleplaying game. The possibilities are ENDLESS.

Get a whip and go for disarm/trip, and non-lethal damage. And be sure that every time you crack your whip you say in a goofy gnome voice: "I smite ye in the name of the Lord!"
Actually, I think non-lethal is the way to go. Get a net and CAPTURE the bad guys, instead of killing them.
Also realize that sometimes the only way to beat evil is to, well, kill it. I doubt the denizens of the Abyss are really going to repent if you give them a nice speech, and if they kill someone after you've let them go, well...ever hear of Peter Parker? That's one big guilt-trip you'd be stuck with...

Don't play a Lawful Stupid paladin that kills everything that detects as evil. Become skilled at sense motive and say that there are ways to detect as evil without being evil (*cough*Infernal Healing*cough*). Or take the Oath that gives you detect undead instead of detect evil and then say you only know if its undead, not evil.

i've played quite a few paladins (going back to 1st edition AD&D) and only one of them was "lawful-stupid" (and it was an intentional roleplaying decision). there are a lot of fun ways to play a paladin- the one i played that might be the best fit for a gnome (it was in 2nd edition, so he had to be human- but i could see a gnomish version) was a friendly but naive farmboy... remember, you weren't born a paladin- you could have been a carney, or the kid who swept his dad's shop floor and fed the mule- then one day you heard the call, you got trained to wear armor and swing a sword, but your still the inquisitive and (overly) friendly person you were before (who might have failed to learn how to sense motive if you really want to be naive).
