I realize that "looking for GM" posts are generally unsuccessful. However I recently had an idea for a (hopefully) really fun campaign. The reason I am asking for someone else to GM is that I just don't have very much experience. I would be wiling to co-gm with someone else.

The idea I have is basically taking all the things that you can do to make a game overpowered and smashing them together.
what I was thinking is this.
20th level
Gestalt classes
Custom races (25 points)
30 point buy

I know that this would be very challenging to run so I understand if no one wants to.

Very challenging is putting it very mildly.

Consider what kind of BBG's the GM has to create that can challenge 20th level characters.

Now consider that GM is running the world, while each player only has to deal with one character.

And while your character remains the same, he has to keep coming up with more.

Sounds neat, and I'd be quite interested in perhaps playing. As for GMing, I'd throw my hat in as a possibility but I'll have to check out what I might want to do. Only idea off the top of my head would be a Shadows of the Colossus type series of epic "boss" battles.

Dotting. Tentative maybe on Dm I would have to think about it. Hard but I have some ideas. Would rather be a player.

Dotting for player interest. I have an insane love for absurdly high-powered play.

I haven't done much for high powered play before, but out seems like it could be interesting if someone were willing to put it together

I've begun looking through possibilities for combos, and there are some sheerly ridiculous ones out there.

Probably the cheesiest I've got thus far is a barbarian/martial artist monk. RAGEFLURRYPOUNCE. But I'm sure there's worse stuff out there.

The silliest of thought of so far is a brood master/pack lord. 20 animal companions + 8 eidolons! Obviously if you wanted them to able to anything you would have to have less.

Sounds like Billybrainpan is going for the solo campaign type, haha.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

I'd be willing to play, but as I'm running an epic pbp game (with one of your character's Billy that I hope is just about to hit all the action) plus another pbp (different forums) I wouldn't have the time to DM this one.

Dark Archive

i must dot this for player interest, I'm also willing to be a monster maker if some one has a campaign or world they want to run this in.

You have my interest!

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Somebody needs to play a 20th level monk of the healing hand named 'I'.
As soon as the game begins, they can immediately use the True Sacrifice ability, killing themselves but making it so that their name can never be spoken again. Finally, laugh in your grave as a bunch of 20+ INT wizards are forced to say things like: 'Me cast Time Stop! Me need components! Me am going to learn new spell!'

Well that is just unnecessarily cruel.

*necessarily

Actually come to think of it, I'd totally be up for running a completely oddball, no holds barred, semi rules light, chock full of homebrew, 20th level fest of ridiculousness. The emphasis would be more on silliness than epic battles.

If you feel that I'm jacking your thread Billybrainpan, I'll scamper off, otherwise, are you perhaps a little enticed?

By the gods, an epic campaign! And my alien overseer is planning on taking it over! OOOOOOHHHHHHHH, PICK ME! I won't eat any Goblin baby's, really! Well, not unless it's thematically appropriate!

In all seriousness, I can try to get a character up soon!

@Baron Bloodless - If you are willing to run the campaign that would be great. Would you change anything about the create rules I gave in the original post?

The other idea I had was to give everyone a certain amount of extra CR for purchasing tempts.

Well, if we roll with the above rules I currently have a tiefling meatshield barbarian/monk who can help out. His speed is 100 feet and he can flurry at the end of a charge. Quite fun. He's also really good at scaring people.

Of course, there are other options I might rather play, so don't accept me purely on the premise of playing that!

I'd probably whip up a bard, paired with either Rogue, or Draconic Sorceror/Dragon Disciple. Or maybe druid. Bard/something is all I've got so far.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

I'm thinking along the lines of a magus/witch. If it is an evil game I might go antipaladin/something...

I have some 3.5 stuff that could be modified for this. Probably not set on Golarion, more like Greyhawk or FR. Are you looking for silly, over the top or more serious, high powered planar politics kind of game? If I don't end up running it, I think it'd be fun to play in too.

I am not totally sure about what I would be playing yet. If it is a combat heavy campaign i'm thinking a synthesist/barbarian.

If using official Pathfinder materials only, I would use a custom race Summoner/Sorceror named Subject 147 or a Human Inquisitor/Gunslinger by the name of Father Brimstone. Or perhaps an Elf Sorceror(Boreal)/Witch(Winter Witch Archetype) who is a part of the Fey Winter Court.

If 3PP material can be used, I would likely play a Samsaran Time Thief/Time Warden so I could have ultimate combat control, hasting allies, slowing enemies, snapping time back a few rounds if a TPK looks likely, and allowing our characters to time travel to the past and future to shape history as we see fit! Or I may use a Catfolk Luckbringer/Malefactor to influence good/ill fortune. Or a Gargoyle Paladin/Ranger for some Batman-like antics! Or I could be an Aasimar Godling/Oracle(Cult Mystery) who has become a sort of demigod and runs his own cult where he and the other character are worshipped as hero gods!

IDEA TIME!!! What if we each take Godling as our second class? WE CAN HAVE OUR OWN PANTHEON!!! WE SHALL BE GODS!!! Can we say, megalomaniacal laugh?!

If everyone agrees on the pantheon idea, I call dibs on being the God of the Underworld! Psychopomp servants, Marut agents, and legions of the undead at my beck and call! Plus, the power to judge each creature as my whims dictate!

I could be down with the pantheon idea. But let's let the DM make the final decision.

I know, just adding my 2 nonexistent cents!

Alright, while I really like the pantheon idea, I'd like to take it in a direction that allows for a little more freedom in deciding what kind of character you are. If you want to play some scion/avatar/wannabe god that's just fine, but regular epic heroes are okay too.

Anyways, the basic premise would be that all of the legendary heroes get flyers inviting them to enroll in Fezziwick's School for Really Powerful Wizards (spoiler: it's not just for wizards), and then decided to attend for whatever personal reason they may have (need to test their power, boredom, just looking for friends, etc). As mentioned before, silliness and cheese are key.

Anyways here are the rules for character creation, with an example below:
Name: Your name must include some sort of cool title to distinguish yourself as an epic hero.
Flavor Text: Include some sort of catchphrase, tagline, or character quote for a little flavor. If any of you have played Borderlands, think of the cutscene text that pops up when you first encounter a boss or npc.
Alignment: Non-evil preferred. If you want to play an evil character, use the villains from children's cartoons as a guidelines; they often coexist with the good guys just fine, and they never cause any lasting harm.
Races: All the Paizo Races are allowed, as well as custom races built using up to 25 race points. Because the value of racial abilities generally wanes with level, there shouldn't be any balance issues. Otherwise, we can find some little bonuses to give to the weaker races.
Classes: We will be using gestalt rules, with the following addition: Whatever class you choose to receive your favored class bonus shall be considered your primary class, and must be taken at every level. Wizards are NOT required, and this is by no means a wizard centric campaign. Unfortunately, I am only going to be allowing Paizo classes and archetypes, as I don't want to have to deal with the sudden onslaught of 20 levels of class abilities that I've never seen before. Also, we might (and this is a big might) be taking this campaign into epic levels using this supremely cool pathfinder epic level handbook I recently discovered.
Ability Scores: 30 point buy. No scores below 7 or above 18 before racial modifiers, and remember to add five points for leveling up!
Identifying Characteristics: Age, hair, eyes, birthplace, etc. I'd image some 20th level characters (aka sorcerers) would have some cool physical features.
Crunch: While you should get some semi-sort of full crunch done sometime, for now all I need to know is what choices you've made (feats, skills, rogue talents, rage powers, etc). You can take two traits or a bonus feat, and if you want, you may take a Tragic Flaw to gain an extra feat. This page has some funny and serious (mostly funny) flaws, but I haven't read all of them, so I reserve the right to ban certain flaws. See below for some homebrew feats that are allowed in this campaign.
Equipment: First off, you should list some 'favorite' of your character's, be it a weapon, spell, or signature martial arts move. Then give me a list of some key equipment items. Under that list your remaining gold total as 'Assets'. Assets can include straight wealth or items that you forgot to buy or don't want to write down at the moment. The starting wealth for a 20th level character is 880,000 gp.
Backstory: Feel free to take as many liberties as you want with background. You are a 20th level hero after all!

Example (Yes, this is THE Fezziwick, and he will be in the campaign):
Headmaster Fezziwick, Really Powerful Wizard
He's not a wizard.
Male N Human Commoner 3 / Cleric of Barbatos 3

Age: ~36
Hair: Greying
Eyes: Blue
Birthplace: Varisia
Traits: Rough and Ready, Harrow Born
Tragic Flaw: Chicken Infested
Feats: Harrowed, Duck and Cover, Plot Essential, Quick Draw
Skills: Climb +7, Craft (shoes) +6, Handle Animal +11, Profession (chicken juggler) +5
Class Features: Domains (Devil and Travel)
Favorite Weapon: Trusty Quarterstaff
Other Possessions: Family Harrow Deck, Slightly Rusty Dagger, Headmaster's Robes, Academy Signet Ring, Fire-Resistant Boots, Wizard's Hat
Additional Assets: 1,500 gp

Str: 12
Dex: 14
Con: 14
Int: 11
Wis: 8
Cha: 20

Fezziwick was born in a traveling gypsy caravan, where he grew up learning the noble arts of traveling circus performer. However, Fezziwick always believed he was destined for greater things than juggling chickens and fixing the trapeze artists boots. He knew that within him lay the potential to become the greatest hero that ever lived, or even better, the greatest schoolmaster that ever lived. And so, after somewhere in the neighborhood of 36 long hard years of toil, he set of to create the finest wizarding academy in all of Golarion, "Fezziwick School for Really Powerful Wizards." Now all he needs are some actual wizards.

New Feats:
Hero of Legend
You begin play with one really awesome magical item (chosen by the GM) taken from the adventure path of your choice. You are considered to be one of the heroes who completed that adventure path.

Wild Magic
Every time you cast a spell, roll a d20 and consult the following table (the GM will handle the results):
1 :Spell misfires in a particularly amusing way.
2-3 :Spell goes off as normal, accompanied by a chaos burst.
4-17 :Spell goes off as normal.
18-19 :Spell goes off as normal, accompanied by a chaos burst.
20 :Cataclysmic version of spell is cast.

Really Wild Magic
Requires: Wild Magic
As Wild Magic, but instead roll a d10 and consult the following table:
1 :Spell misfires in a particularly amusing way.
2-3 :Spell goes off as normal, accompanied by a chaos burst.
4-7 :Spell goes off as normal.
8-9 :Spell goes off as normal, accompanied by a chaos burst.
10 :Cataclysmic version of spell is cast.

Really, Really Wild Magic
Requires: Really Wild Magic
As Wild Magic, but instead roll a d4 and consult the following table:
1 :Spell misfires in a particularly amusing way.
2 :Spell goes off as normal.
3 :Spell goes off as normal, accompanied by a chaos burst.
4 :Cataclysmic version of spell is cast.

I Love it Baron!

Oh, this looks like amazing fun. Before I commit to any ideas, how far down the silliess/cheesiness path are you looking to go? Because I'm wanting to roll up a bard/something, and in my mind the perfect model of a level 20th Bard would be Freddy Mercury from Queen, and my character would probably develop along some lines of those. Would doing that, and then proclaiming himself 'Prince of the Universe' and such be completely off the handle, far as you're concerned? Not quite being literally Freddy Mercury, but probably more winking references than is entirely healthy.

EDIT: Also, where would you stand on houseruling a Dragonic Sorceror's claws? They're the bloodline's first level ability and aren't much special, but their daily uses are just 3 + CHA modifier, which at 20th level isn't really worth anything. Would you be willing to allow for at-will infinitely, or some manner of adding (X) x Level to it?

Very neat! I'll have to do some serious thinking on what to do here, because I'm not sure whether to keep my current concept going.

Whipping up a statblock soon!

Nidoran Duran: As I said, ANYTHING goes. However, that doesn't mean that there wouldn't be any challengers to your throne...

And yes you can add one round per level to the Draconic sorcerer's claws. In addition, the 20th level bloodline power will make them infinite.

Wonderful, Dragon Disciple adds its level to the bloodline powers, which means infinite claws, which means I have my choice between it and rogue. Will whip up some semi-crunch soon.

I have figured it out! Baron, which of these characters would be just too awesome?

Ever played Ravenloft? Let me present to you the concepts of Dr. Rudolph Van Rictus, the sticky ectoplasmic slayer of evil and Strahd Von Zero-Witch, angsty vampiric champion in search of redemption and a date who doesn't mind his fanged French kissing!

Van Rictus Basics: Male Human Ghost Oracle(Occult Mystery)/Inquisitor(Sin Eater Archetype). Low physical scores, high mental scores. Occult Mystery come from the Reign of Winter AP, book 5. I am taking into account that he already died and his final revelation turned him into a ghost!

Von Zero-Witch Basics: Male Dhampir Cavalier(Order of the Dragon)/Witch(Gravewalker). Crazy MAD build. He has a female bat familiar named Lucy Easterna with a pink bow in her hair fur! He's also going to make his steed into an undead! And yes, the character is going to be a wacky parody of the 'typical vampire'.

I'm leaning towards Strahd Von Zero-Witch as a character just so I can make fun of 'new vampire' movies and just be wacky!

I'd like to alter my submission, because I realized this would be a great chance to try out in combat a build idea I've worked with for a while--the DUAL-SHIELDER!

However, this guy is going to be like my other plan--the barbarian/monk--in that he'll most likely have AWFUL Intelligence. Just, abysmal. Totally worth nothing. SO, he'll work best as the bodyguard and assistant to another character--probably a smart one! It'll be the typical brains/brawn combination.

EDIT: I'm looking at the Witchguard archetype for the ranger (Two-Weapon Fighting chain without prerequisites? Yes please!), which seems to fit my concept well. Silver Prince, if you do Strahd, want me to be your big dumb bodyguard?

Loup, YES!!!

Also, +5 Vorpal added to weapon: 200,000 GP!

I have a few ideas. Which one do you guys think is the best?
Oom the wildling (custom race) oracle of spellscar/broodmaster. Basically he runs around with his rod of wonder and his final revelation (primal events) and messes up everyones day.

The wildling:
fey 2
tiny 4
slow speed -1
standard 0
standard language 0
2 advanced charisma 9
spell resistance, greater 3
greater invisibility at will 6
lucky, lesser 2

-4 str
+4 dex
+6 char

Marus the (unamed custom race) titan mauler/two-weapon warrior. He Quadruple wields greatswords, and I was also thinking he would be someones body guard.

Custom race:
vulnerability to electricity -2
light sensitivity -1
slow speed -1
standard language 0
outsider (native) (ties to the plane of earth) 3
specialized abilities 1
elemental weapons 6
2 multi armed 8
large 7

-2 dex
-2 int
+4 str
+2 con

Or my other idea for a build that I dont have a name for yet which is a brawler/hungry ghost monk.

The construction of the academy is under way! By combining the vehicle rules from Ultimate Combat and the building/organization rules from Ultimate Campaign, and then securing Fezziwick a lovely little 600,000 gold piece loan from the Bank of Absalom, you guys will be kickin' it in style in a magical floating castle propelled by alchemical engines and giant balloon! Floorplan in the works!

Silver Prince, I'm really liking Strahd. Vampire angst is hilarious, but 20th level vampire angst is an instant classic.

Billy, if you go with the Wildling please take some or all of my Really Wild Magic line of feats, they'll jam pack your character with chaos-y goodness faster than you can say 'Reckless Dweomer'!

This does seem interesting...

@Baron - I most certainly will. I just have one question, what is a chaos burst?

I found this MASSIVE table with full of random magical effects that gets rolled one. It's a bit like a primal surge but with a MUCH wider range of effects. I guarantee you'll love it.

By the way, Fezziwick still has around 9,000 gp of grant money left after stocking the academy with servants, food, and booze. Any suggestions on what he can spend it on?

Alright, I've got my race and build worked out as of right now. The custom race is built with the idea that he's been redesigned from a human to serve as the perfect bodyguard for a spellcaster.

Mechanized Guard:

Half-Construct (7)
Medium
20 feet base speed (-1)
+4 Str, +2 Con, -2 Int (1)
Standard Language

Ability Bonus: Str +2 (4)
Dual-Minded (1)
Lucky, Greater (4)
Greater Spell Resistance (3)
Bonus Feat (4)
Ferocity (4)
Elemental Vulnerability (electricity) (-2)
*I know that he's not technically allowed to grab the vulnerability, but it does make sense with regards to his concept

Now I'm going to get to sleep, but tomorrow I'll work on equipment and getting a sheet together.

Ooooooh I finnaly figured out what I want to build. Dudley do right style paladin magus.

OK, I'm on board if there's room. I'm thinking a super strait-laced paladin/sorcerer with a really wild magic feat or 2. The magic is a huge part of who he is, but the randomness of it drives him batty. Think Superman but his heat vision sometimes shoots out rainbows and butterflies. He probably won't be the sharpest tool in the shed either, but people like him and want to be around him. He always manages to get the job done, just sometimes things are a little more wacky than he'd like.

Havocprince wrote:

GAH! Ninja'd!

Here is the Alias for Oom. I don't have a full crunch yet But I know some of it. He will be taking all 3 wild magic feats + he uses a rod of wonder + whenever he casts a spell he can trigger a primal magic event (spoiler alert: He does).

Don't forget the catchphrase! Also I think you could go bigger with your title. Like 'Oom, Aetherchild of the Maelstrom Godspirit' or something that similarly walks the fine line between badass and ridiculous.

Also, I've decided that the Really, Really Wild Magic feat (third one in the tree) requires levels in a class connected to primal magic (spellscar oracle, primalist).

Baron, I have got some of the character done, but I will get the rest done and post tomorrow from my computer. Don't want to wake everyone up with that jet turbine of a computer of mine. Spent all but around 150k of my GP and I'm keeping that in case of expensive magic that is not under Eschew Materials, as well as bribes, to have golems crafted, ect.

Also, I have a LE Female Human Zombie Lord Bard20 as one of my personal undead pets for Strahd Von Zero-Witch! She's the deadliest ballerina ever, able to pirouette her way through enemies with dual scimitars! Her name is Lisette, by the way. I also have a LE Halfling Ghoul named Gaston as a butler! Oh and I switched to Witch/Wizard for double the fun! I have a bat named Lucy Easterna for a Witch's Familiar and a Soulbound Doll (NG for ability,) named Annelise for an Improved Familiar that I gained via Arcane Bond and a feat.

My character is going to be thoroughly insane, thinking that in being a hero, he gains redemption for being a Dhampir, while he just digs his moral hole deeper by creating legions of the undead and causing havoc with his experiments. He's going to have a dark sense of humor and behave erratically all the time. He's going to whine about his empty half existence as well, with Lucy making snarky commentary in bat squeaks. He's also going to go after EVERY woman that looks even remotely feminine, trying to fill the 'empty void in his unbeating heart', despite the fact that it is full of blood and beats perfectly! Fluff is just in the basic stages, but considering all the work into the crunch of this character, it is within reason. Also, since Dhampirs are 11RP, I am adding ability score bonuses and alternate racial traits to bring those points up the the specified levels. Über Dhampir!

Also, that gold you have left over could go towards a masterwork alchemy lab, artisan tools, and other things we could use during downtime. And I hope the servants in the castle don't mind walking corpses wandering the halls!
