[Advice] Seer Oracle of Lore

Advice

Soon I'm going to be running a Seer Oracle of Lore, but I'm having a little difficulty settling on the Revelations that I should take.

I'm starting at level 4, so I automatically get Natural Divination and Gift of Prophecy. I'm probably going to use my 3 feats (+1 bonus feat as a human) to take Extra Revelations.

Sidestep Secret is a given, but I need to decide what else to take. I'll need to be the knowledge skill monkey for this game, so I was thinking about taking Focused Trance and Lore Keeper. Brain Drain seems less functional than fun, but Automatic Writing could be good for my character's background (Spirit Seer and Diviner) and it wouldn't hurt to be able to cast a free Augury or Divination twice a day.

If it matters, here are my ability scores:

STR - 12
DEX - 10
CON - 14
INT - 14
WIS - 10
CHA - 20

I know ur asking About what revelations to take first and foremost but I think there are a few things that should cleared up first.

1) you say ur to be the skill monkey ok. You got to realize that a TRUE skill monkey u will not be. You are going to be a "Knowledge god" as a wizard or bard are while being now comparable to sorcerer. In other words physical skills are going to be needed from other party members.

2) your going to be the face unless someone goes to great lengths. As such I feel it best to take silver tongued (human racial) to reace skilled so that ur the best possible face.

3) u say u want to use ur feats for extra revelations. I think this is a mistake over the LONg term. I don't know the math on top of my head but I'd bet a lot of money that with u taking that many extra revelation feats ur going to hit a level or two where u can't select any revelation because of the level requirements for some feats. U will get them all eventually so I suggest patience.

To replace 1 or 2 of those revelation feat choices I have a few alternatives. Fast learner would be great as now u could get a hp, a skill point, or human favored class bonus in addition to ur normal selection for favored class. In effect this becomes silver tongued and u keep skilled. Honestly the majority of human racial based feats have a respectable amount of quality and use for oracle so have a look. Finally cosmopolitan is a near must for u I think. 2 more languages for the face and get whatever mental skills ur lacking (don't think u have intimidate and diplomacy).

4) accept that ur a supporter in battle. So always remember that in everything u do.

Now the revelations: focused trance, sidestep secret, and lore keeper are the big three. After that I think none are worth a feat. Not to be confused with their value being low just that a feat is worth more than the other revelations without getting into specific circumstan e or build.

Had a bit of a hard time reading your post, but I think I got the gist. I'll do my best to respond.

1) I said I was the "history skill monkey", and I'm also going to have Linguistics, Disable Device, UMD, Diplomacy, Sense Motive and Appraise. My Natural Divination revelation gives me the ability to add +10 to any skill check, and Focused Trance lets me add +20 to any Intelligence skill check. So, I can be pretty diverse.

2) We have a sorcerer who will mostly be the party face, but I'll be able to help. Guess I should describe the party: melee Ranger, Barbarian, Crossblooded Sorcerer (blaster), and Gunslinger (Musket Master). I'm going to be the healer, protector, diviner, and have all the knowledges.

3) There are more Revelations than you can take without using feats. And, after level 3, I will not be using feats for more Revelations, so I'll still miss at least 1 (I think). Plus, 2 of them are from my Archetype, so I'm really just adding 1 Revelation. Other than Eldritch Heritage and Fortune Telller, I don't know what else I'll need feat-wise.

4) I'm specifically planning this character to be a support class. She'll have a pretty high AC, but she's not intended for battle. We have enough of that as it is.

I'm just not sure if it's worth taking both Lore Keeper and Focused Trance. Seems like there may be a better option.

Bump

Bump.

I think I've decided to take Noble Scion (War Scion) and use the other 2 feats for Sidestep Secret and Focused Trance.

I've always found there to be better mysteries than lore, even for a support oracle. Life, for example.

Yes, but all of the other players have ignored the Knowledge skills. The first book ended up being especially difficult due to that, so I'm going to fill that role.

I thought about Ancestor, but I didn't like it as much.

If you are doing Knowledge/Face I would suggest only taking Extra Revelation once if at all. Using your feats for things like skill focus and other skill feats would be better.

I would also recommend either Dwarf/Gnome/Elf in order to take Breadth of Experience. The +2 to all knowledges will be worth it.

Drop your Strength, and make your con lower to and pump up Int. You will need it for the amount of skill points you will want to spend. Do not worry about making your Cha so high. Yes it feeds a lot, but at the same time int will be better, since you will have more skill points.

Normally I'd say dump dex and take the Noble Scion: War feat (mhmmm charisma to initiative...), but you seem to have rolled, so just take that feat.

Actually, I didn't roll. I started at level 4, so those ability scores reflex my +1 from advancement (19->20 on CHA).

That being said, I ended up going a different direction, mostly for fluff and background choices. I ended up as a Seer Ancestor Oracle. Still a little unsure about what feats to take, but I'll probably just have to figure that out along the way.
