Which race is better for a magus, elf or drow? They both have the bonuses to DEX and INT and the penalty to CON, but asides from that, which is better?

Yeah gotta go with Tiefling. The penalty to CHA doesn't hurt, having a tail to pull wands and rods out is always nice. Just perfectly made for it.

And your a badass tiefling just take a look at the Blood of fiends book
I suppose the fact that there were only two choices (elf and drow) wasn't made clear. Those are the best races for magus that are allowed in the campaign, so I'd like it picked out of those two, thanks.
Though I suppose that wasn't the question. To answer the question asked: I just looked drow up in the PRD, and it shows +2 DEX, +2 CHA. If that's right, the choice is easy Elf :) If it's wrong, I am leaning towards Elf anyway due to favored class bonus (1/6 arcana)
I don't believe Drow actually get a bonus to Int, I think their mental bonus is that of Cha. Unless it is houseruled to be different in your home game.
So from a straight stat stand point Elf is better. They also have a racial replacement that gives you a +2 to concentration checks, which is always handy for a magus.
Oh I must have read that wrong, now I feel stupid. Thanks for showing me my mistake.
Tiefling or Human.
The bonus feat can do wonders in a build that is already feat starved.

Elf. Works well with Bladebound Hexcrafter as well.
Elf, spell dancer archetype. :P
Elf,
Favored class option: "The magus gains 1/6 of a new magus arcana."
I think it is slightly better than Humans' one extra feat.
+ Elven Immunities + Elven Magic + Alternate Racial Trait: Arcane Focus
I agree with all the Elf votes. The racial bonus to Spellcraft (which you want anyway) is just gravy on the cake. And I like my cake with extra gravy. ;)
Yeah... I sort of abandoned this after I realized my stupid mistake. I started a new thread on optimizing a bladebound hexcrafter, but it turned into a debate about if bladebound is a good choice or not. Is it?

The tail also lets you use metamagic rods while doing spell combat, a major issue for Magi normally. It's just the perfect Magus race.
Not to de-rail this thread but the best race is by far a goblin. +4 dex and +1 to hit due to size, and bonuses for perception with big ears they are great.
PLUS its Yoda!
Say more need I not.
Why not monkey goblin, they get the tail too.
Ok, you guys have fun answering a long answered thread :D
I may be ornery, but I'd say Human. The Magus class is very feat-starved if you go the dex / scimitar route. In fact, even if you go the Strength route Human may well be your best bet (although an Int race would work as well - I'm one of those odd Int > Str (/Dex) > Con advocates ).
