Okey-doke, the Natoosi (ratfolk) submission is on its way. I'm not sure a mundane critter/subrace fits the Dark Magic theme of the issue though, but it's your (and/or Wolfgang's) call.

Edit: I submitted it as 1st-level ranger, but I can resubmit it as a magus if that fits the theme better.

I suppose it depends if what they're doing can be described as 'magic', and/or 'dark'?

I got a couple of ideas for a creature and alchemical item, but I want to compare them with existing material for setting power level and CR, and revisit the Fleshcrafting rules from Second Darkness to avoid making them redundant.
I think they'd qualify as 'Dark Magic' by anyone's criteria.
I got passed over for the Superstar Items round twice, on the grounds I'd made squicky items more suited to being used by a villain, so maybe I can turn that tendency into a positive?

I think it's good that submission deadline passed already. Now I would write some sort of old ones-touched turkey or something like that...

You could write up a Krampus-inspired evil gnome rogue/vivisectionist that breaks into homes at night and steals children's livers (or something equally hideous) unless they leave out a fresh black pudding and blood sausages for him to eat.

Edit: I'm not sure how you might fit the Caganer into Midgard though... a mischievous fey?

Plenty of Dark Fey in Midgard, so that would work.

Hi Yggdrasilites! Here's an update:

The Bad News - due partly to my own school and real-life related time shortages, as well as the Good News (see below) we are unfortunately looking at a mid-January release date for Yggdrasil #1.

The Good News - illustrious illustrator and icon of iconography Hugo Solis will be providing a cover piece for the issue, as well as providing some interior sketches!!! Hugo's busy schedule, and my own tardy request to him are partly the reason for the rescheduling.

On the upside this will give me plenty of time for making other art and cartography orders and delegating some of the voluminous editing. Thanks to those that have already volunteered to help with editing...

I hope you can bear with me as I wrangle all the roots and branches of this project together, and hope that the fruit it bears early next year will be sweet!!!

P.S. : if you know any artists keen to see their work in Yggdrasil, most likely unpaid, get them to drop me a line:

How's your school OSW?

Did you ever receive my last email?

Any update regarding the estimated time (or more delays)?

Drejk wrote:

Half way point achieved with a full spectrum of grades in four subjects (Pass, Credit, Distinction and High Distinction) and no fails. One semester, four more subjects to go…

Thanks for asking Drejk!!! ;)

Apart from a complete drop of the ball on advertising and rates, I'm still working away on stuff. I would say end of January for release, if not by then, come looking for me somewhere in the Wasted West… :)

Apparently I did, without me knowing. Reply sent… ;)

It's alive!

I don't know if it is a good sign when Dark Magic is involved...

So, now that THAT'S over (OS Dub, you know what I mean), what're the next steps?

Finally got a chance to read some of the Midgard Campaign Setting.

Not sure what I think of it so far, like some of the ideas, but eh, "Elves retreating to the West" kind of is a real ... turn off.

I will say I read the Perunalia entry. Kind of well done, but all I could think of was how many derogatory terms neighboring nations must have for Perunalian men.

I bet if they ever travel outside the country, they get laughed at.

By women. "Shut up, Luv! Or I'll smack ya! Ha ha ha ha!"

Must be a real bummer. I can see it now, you go to Zobeck and a snot nosed urchin mocks you and asks: "Where's your dress?! Ha ha ha ha!"

Or a fellow adventurer: "Make me a sandwich!"

I can see a really bitter, misogynistic, exile from Perunalia dedicated to the accumulation of power, with a fervent desire to overthrow the government and the Queen.

What a marvel of character to build and roleplay.

Or maybe a Tale of Two Cities kind of thing. That would be interesting too.

I hope that Yggdrasil will be a success and see future issues. Now I have resources to work with...

Hey! I almost forgot about this bad boy!

How are we looking on the end of January for release?

So how's this looking?

Anyone seen Oceanshieldwolf recently? Did he survived the exams?

Do we need to organize party to look for him in Wasted West?

...I'll be right back...if we are setting up a search party I'm getting my Engel. ChtuluTech has nothing on Australia.

Ok I'm back me and Azrael are ready to go looking...but this may be a mission neither of us can return from.

If you do return, though, you'll be loaded with XP and golden treasures!

...(trudge trudge trudge)... *gasp*.... *gasp* ... (collapses with curled up, crumpled and partially burnt missive in hand)...

Ack. So the end of January sailed by without Yggdrasil. Still working on it. Sorry to all those waiting with bated breath - I'm moving the date to end of Feb *at the latest* - I go back to school in March so if this tangled skein of a world tree isn't ready by then hang me up on a Bloodreaver ship and carve Wotan in crude runes on my breast. For the XP of course. (See Wolfgang for actually receiving said XP...)

@Havocxiii - yep, email received. Will get back to you.

Expect to see more solid updates over the next week as I finalise everything/finish edits.
Thanks to a those who have reached out and offered aid - don't be surprised if I lean on you.

@ Drejk - you like Krakova? I like Krakova. ;)

You posted this on the 1st Feb. Cruel, cruel man. Definitely before January 2015. Hopefully at least twice!

Actually he posted on the 31 but since you live in a land where everything can kill you I could see time being faster in an attempt to kill you with old age if all else fails.

Yea! Oceanshieldwolf survived exams! Now there's only 899,999 things that can kill him where he lives!

Seriously though I'm kind of obsessed, watching for updates on this! If there's anything more I can do to help let me know.

Oh and also... hope you nailed the tests man! Sorry I should've said something earlier.

+3rding the offer of any help, OCW, if you want or need it.

Argh! *headdesk*

Krakov! Krakova is genitive case. It's like naming an alternate timeline America Electoral Kingdom Of Boston's.

*wanders away grumbling to oneself*

Spoiler:
Guess which city I am from...

Krakova isn't sounding cooler than Krakov...

Oh, and in Polish -a is generally ending of feminine nouns so Krakova can be read as feminine form of Krakov.

Quote:

*cough* redundancy - szlachta are hereditary nobles, even if most of them are very minor nobility.

On completely unrelated note, one day I should seek the information about my paternal ancestors, beyond vague information that they were probably minor nobility from north.

Meh. I opened my e-mail and saw "yggdrasil (...) available now" in name of one posts but it happened to be Cubicle 7 advertisement. :(

Just curious how this is progressing! Still on track for the end of Feb?

Thanks!

Huh. I thought that in Land Down Under month starts earlier than in places closer to civilization...

All I know of Australia is by way of Farscape, nature shows, and Claremont's run on Uncanny X-Men... so, I believe localized time distortions Down Under are not only probable, but highly likely.

Begin TransmissionDrejk...Come in Drejk. *heavy breathing* I'm not sure if anyone will ever hear this but the entire search party has been wiped out all that's left is me and Azrael...they they came out of no where. I...I don't even know what to call them...what what's that? Oh god the sky it's splitting!!!! Oh God NOOO ITS.....end transmission

Rescue team? Respond! Rescue team respond!

Damn. Now we lost both OSW and rescue team...

Spoiler:
I half expect OSW coming out of the Wastes all battered and dirty but chewing a cigar and dragging the survivors of rescue team.

Begin TransmissionViper reporting in. Turns out it was an angry swarm of Bieber fans. Apparently a localized time distortion pulled them from the middle if a concert dumpin them in the middle of our operation. Will continue the search.End Transmission

Damn. They got to the thread before I did. By the look of it, by a few days too.

Ok ok, so here I am on the train to school. And no Yggdrasil yet. If you put up your hand to help (Ambrosia, Mike W., James T), I'll be sending you some stuff to look at over the next few days.

Trying to work out art, cartography and advertising has been trickier than I realised, and the last week my son and I have both been down with the flu. As a confirmed Lego-freak, I am surprised at just how much I don't always look forward to role-playing Fireman Sam's next emergency with lil pup OSW. I think I'll reintroduce the Vandana Shiva versus the whalers on the Nishiin Maru using Duplo Orca and that ship I built out of [redacted]. Hey, don't judge me, if it connects, I don't judge it. Construction bloks are construction blocks. Within reason. And those Halo sets have mad camo...

Anyway, thanks for all the support so far. I'll compile the articles tonight and let people know where I need help. I may also put out a public art order seeing as Marc Radle's exemplary submission of awesome doesn't quite cover everything.

Oh, and as for the theme of Issue #2 will be.... Tech. As in Magitech, Steamtech, Geartech, Clock-tech, Vril-tech, Bio-tech, and yes, if you want, as I know I do Psitech. This was always my plan for issue #2 since KQ#24's tech theme never saw the light of day and seeing as it doesn't seem like Wayfinder will go with Numeria for #12 - well, hopefully I can learn a little on this issue and get things together a little better. ;)

You know me and Cyra are willing to do any art pieces you need. Even custom work.

I'm also willing to help with anything else you need. So if you want to send me anything I'm willing....and now back to the show.
