I'm collecting class names. I'll hit you with what I've got, and you'll see if you can add to it.

Here are the rules. Fantasy / fantasy-steampunk genres only. Adventuring classes only (Necromancer yes, Blacksmith maybe, Commoner no). One-word class names only (hypenated names like Ur-Priest and compound names like Spellbinder are allowed). Random "nounverbs" (Firedancer, Earthspeaker) are allowed if they make sense or paint a fairly clear visual picture.

Here's the list so far! Can you add to it?

Ratcatcher, from Warhammer Fantasy.

Adept?

psychic & psionicist but not psion? speaking of psi characters there are the cerebremancer, elocater, metamind, pryokeniicist, thrallherd prestige classes.

Agent?

Breakers and brutes?

Campanion, charger, courtier?

Damned, destroyer, daredevil, doomcaller.

Earthdawn:
Beastmaster
Swordmaster
Troubador
Weaponsmith
Air Sailor and Sky Raider (Don't follow the rule, but included for completeness. Why only one word class names anyway?)

And perhaps most importantly of all, you left out:
from Pre-3.0 D&D: Magic-user.

Sadly the one word rule blocks OD&D's Fighting Man.

Elf, Dwarf and Halfling were classes in Basic D&D, but I suspect that's stretching it.

Complete Adventurer had a class called the Factotum which was even more of a jack of all trades than the bard.

Liberty's Edge

go here. Im sure there are plenty-

Wiki for class & kit names

From C&S
Kabbalist

Most of the rest are two word class names, such as Jewelsmith Artificer, Belted Knight, etc.

From early D&D
Elf
Arduin:
Runeweaver
Runesinger
Courtesan
Techno
Merchant (an adventuring class, trust me)

From Rogukan:
Courtier

From Manual of Aurania:
Beorning
Sidthe

Good lists. Keep 'em coming.

Psion is good for the purposes of Thread Completion, but my original list took measures to exclude class names that meant, described, or evoked exactly, precisely the same idea.

I've got beastmaster already.

Yeah, those are pretty clearly races. This list doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Dungeons & Dragons or Pathfinder, anyway. ; )

The Palladium RPG had a wide list of classes as well, including Warrior Monk, Longbowman, Priest of Light, Priest of Dark, Psi Healer, Psi Mystic, Mind Mage, and Squire.

You can see the full list at Palladium OCCs.

Hellion
Magister

Grand Lodge

Here you go some classes I've made in the past.

Conqueror
Coercer
Cryptomancer
Defilier
Enforcer
Gallant
Geometer
Heretic
Phantasmist
Sanctifier
Tarotist
Vandal
Vanquisher

I also had a class called Puppet master (don't know if that qualifies).

I once had an idea of making a retro game based after the 2e skills and powers series. I keep adding in races/classes and powers until I reached 49 races and 84 classes. Seeing your list I could have keep going.

Doomguard
Mindbender
Spectre
Terminator
Wanderer

Puppeteer?

But why are you excluding two word class names, such as Time Thief or Time Warden? That's leaving quite a few out.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

In part, because that's a common or traditional naming convention in RPGs (usually on the idea that an idea too complex to be expressed with a single word is more of a prestige class or advanced class than a base class).

Also in part, because you have to draw the line somewhere.

A tradition dating back to the original D&D's Fighting Man. :)

And why not draw the line at: Was an actual published class?

I always liked Heartwarder... It was sort of a feytype/healing class ( i don't entirely remember... Forgotten Realms 3.0 Faiths and Pantheons I think...?) It was definitely a prestige class though.

shinobi. yakuza. juicer (steroid junkie from palladium's Rifts)

artillerist....
rustler...
commando...
buccaneer
pilot

The Exchange

Since I didn't see anything that said there had to be a game involved, I assumed you were collecting Character concepts that cousl be expressed in one word, and that could be part of a Fanstasy/Fantasy-Steampunk setting without seeming "out-of-place".

Quite an extensive list, but I do have an original contribution, which I don't believe IS an actual Class in any published game (but I could be wrong).

Pickpocket

I woudl also like to commend

Tinker

as separate from Tinkerer, as a Tinker is a traveling merchant and jack-of-all-trades who fixes metal things, while a Tinkerer seems to imply a person who builds machines and gadgets. Related, but slightly different.

Also several suggestions, which like Tinker have limited utitlity in a Fantsy RPG, (although I made a lot of gold in Freeport, Everquest, as the first two of these).

Tailor
Postman
Plumber
Carpenter
Groundskeeper
Gardener
Detective (didn;t exist before Poe, not sure exactly what

Because that's not what I'm collecting. : )

What I'm looking for are simple but evocative one-word concepts that express a character concept or fictional archetype appropriate for a fantasy and/or steampunk setting... published in your favorite games or not!
