[Interest Check] 4E + Homestuck homage?

Recruitment

The Exchange

For those of you who enjoy the webcomic, and even those that do not, I was considering a 4E variant to a game I put together in Heroes Unlimited using the 4E rules. I've never ran 4E before, but I'm considering giving it a shot after playing in Rev Rosey's awesome games.

In terms of what we'd NOT be doing in the game, we'll avoid any and all memes related to the comic, in fact, it is loosely based off of the Skaia game itself and not much else! I thought given the game thematics for it, that 4E would fit very well as game engine of choice.

So let me know who'se out there and if anyone at all cares!

Sounds neat.

The Exchange

glad someone approves, however so far looks like not many have an interest. It's fine though, new 4E GM and strange setting. Good thing I've checked in!

sounds awsome as long as its not a play by post im definitely in
shoot me an email ill message you with it also im new to 4E so im willign to learn

The Exchange

well perhaps I should've mentioned, yes it'd be PbP, there's not enough time to do it otherwise. Apologies for not making that clear.

It sounds interesting, not really read the web-comic before though.

Silver Crusade

Could you tell a little bit about the comic you are using for inspiration, for those who are unfamiliar with it?

The Exchange

I'll give the part that matters to the actual plot, certainly.

The game played in Homestuck is one of those deals where things are much more real than you'd anticipate and have greater consequences than you'd ever expect. It does play to game mechanics you may be familiar with, such as going into combat against one enemy, and finding eight instead, those sorts of things.

Worlds are generated 'randomly' usually combining two different items from an endless pool, such as say...Candy and Explosives, or some such.

The worlds themselves can be cutesy or just strange, but can also be majestic and horrific. It's all part of the strange charm. That's not to say the plot is altogether lighthearted and casual, because there is a deeper drama beneath the surface, when the crew understands what the prizes are for winning, and what is at stake for losing.

Once entering the game there will be either no or little returning back to the real world (in which there are no abilities to work on, aside from your own cleverness)

Characters played are asked to be young, on the cusp of adulthood, embroiled with the outlook of youth and of what it means to grow up. Age about...14 or so, is appropriate.

That sounds quite interesting with the light-hearted element and a darker back-ground. Could easily be a lot of fun.

The Exchange

I'd like to think so, granted my players were sort of confused by it at times, but I think that's natural when you're in a weird game world.

Yeah, it sounds a touch confusing or anarchic but could be very clever at the same time. :)

The Exchange

both, assuredly, are intentional. Playing modern age preteens playing fantasy style combat in a video game world that somehow is connected to your own world with epic battles....that'll never be entirely straightforward.

if you allow players who are new to both phb and 4E then would I like to apply, I do have the first 4E player handbook thought. I like the concept of a star warlock but am willing to play anything including a GM given char.

Star Warlock sounds cool. I take it that we would start at low levels, but level fairly rapidly - given the nature of pbp?

Yes I agree that would be the most fun, getting new abilities that change the game over time :)

Here is my star warlock concept I was thinking about, I know his story is rather unconventional but so is this campaign concept :) I'm hope I didn't made any mistakes, stats shall off course need to be update when this campaigns stat generation method is decided.

Fluff

Description: Starling Singularus has spend it's entire youth without meeting a single other humanoid being and it shows. He sometimes uses words and phrases a normal being wouldn't use in conversations or accidentally uses Deep Speech when he should have used common. When it comes to clothes and hairstyle does he only consider functionality, he doesn't care how it looks. A lot of his stuff is self made from stuff found in the forest. Yet is he at the same time charming, he has gentle light blue eyes and a friendly wel tanned face. His brown hair shines in the sun and moon light. His voice is soft and friendly unless when he uses deep speech, then it sounds completely out of this world.

Background:

Left behind in a forest as a little child, he was utterly doomed. Wolves came for what would be an easy meal, then he saw the visions for the first time, the visions from the black star. Visions of a star that didn't gave but stole light, visions of a star where time nor space truly existed, visions of madness and geniality.

Just before a wolf would bite him did the vision ended, then bright star light erupted from his hands, light the black star had stolen from other stars, instantly killing the wolf. The other wolves where so shaken that they would never come back to him.

Then begun the whispers, the whispers from the black star. The black star told him what fruit to eat, how to build a shelter, how to make fire and how to cook a meal. While he was alone in the forest was he never truly alone, for he heard the whispers from the black star. The whispers also told him about history, religion and arcane secrets.

At night he dreamed of a multidimensional place where space and time took the weirdest forms. He dreamt of strange beings living around the black star, he heard them talk. He had so many of those dreams that he eventually started to understand the language of those beings. When he was bored talked he that language to himself to amuse him.

But then after 14 years stopped the whispers from the black star suddenly after the final whisper: "You I called Starling Singularus! Leave this forest now! In what you call the future are you needed!". The whispers ended, the dreams stopped but still felt he closer to the black star then ever before, his real live had started!

The Exchange

I'm still here, and appreciate the activity if we do get off the ground. Right now, we're still in the interest phase, but its good to know that someone has an interest indeed! I'll be keeping an eye here seeing if things progress.

Thank you for your char input.

Silver Crusade

I think I've got my hands full at the moment PbP-wise. Thank you for the heads-up, though!
