My new Kickstarter is live, I really need to get the word out and I think this is for sure the place to start! In the form of BattleGraph and Tact Tiles comes the Automagic Tiles! Dry erase safe interlocking acrylic tiles for table top role playing games.
Check it out - http://kck.st/ZxGMTe
Let me know what you think,

Okay, what's up with Kickstarter shipping these days?
I understand it can be expensive to ship outside the US. I get that.
But I live in Canada, about two feet across the border. What you're telling me is that it costs the same to ship to me ($25 MORE than to a US address!), as it would if I were in Australia, or Mongolia?!?
Really?

I've been waiting for ages for BattleGraph or Tact Tiles to come back in some form. I finally found 8.5" x 15.5" dry erase boards with 1" grids for $5.99 (the're plain rectangles that don't interlock, but hey, if that's all I was going to be able to find...)
Only a few hours after I ordered a half dozen of those, this Kickstarter opened. Ah, what the heck. Now I'll have dry erase whiteboard and clear acrylic. :)

While it looks innovative, can you explain what makes these any more advantageous than using the normal dry erase grids that can be rolled up and put in a backpack? I'd have to snap a bunch together and they look potentially breakable.
I guess it has the advantage of fitting to any size table as opposed to a large map you have to keep part of rolled up???

I do see an advantage though if you have them all predone out and you reveal more as they enter each room, which would be good especially going somewhere else to play..but you'd have to find the right tiles and have them labelled to make "puzzling" them easier...you could theoretically have a mat and things to cover each room and take them off as you go, but do now see how this could be something people would use.

Fore the breakable part!! The weight adds up quick. acrylic isn't light.

The other advantage of tiles over the older roll up maps, if you have a dungeon larger than your table, you can shift the tiles around, pick up ones you aren't moving, slide the current room over and put new tiles down (assuming you get lots of these). With a roll-up map, you have to erase what you've drawn, or draw somewhere else, making the map more abstract.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't shipping costs have more to do with paying fees to get things through the borders (separate taxes and such) than the actual distance shipped?

I've really been waiting for a product like this and, knowing the specific issues that BC had with the Tact Tiles productions, I know that Kickstarter is the perfect place to launch.
But I don't want clear tiles :-/
I have no use for that. What I really want is exactly what I have: tact tiles. Only new and without all the dints and divots I've accumulated lo these past 8 years. Maybe a brighter white?
To be frank, free dry erase markers aren't much of a stretch goal; they cost like a dollar.

Just a thought: in 2013 the USPS raised its rates accross the board.
First Class Package Intl Service - Canada (1 lb.)
2013: $10.55
2012: $5.75
$4.80 raise
**over pound Priority is your only option.
Priority Mail Intl Small Flat Rate Box - Canada
2013: $19.95
2012: $12.95
$7.00 rise
Priority Mail Intl Medium Flat Rate Box - Canada
2013: $40.95
2012: $32.95
$8.00 raise
Priority Mail Intl Large Flat Rate Box - Canada
2013: $53.95
2012: $39.95
$14.00 raise
Other than Canada the rates are even higher. Just some numbers to think about.

Yeah, I was excited about this too as a replacement for my banged-up TactTiles, until I saw that they were clear.
