Monk w/ Large Reach Weapon:
you take a - 2 penalty, but you can offset it with martial weapon proficiency. You also get +4 for tripping with a 2 hand weapon and another +4 for large weapon.
A Large Guisarme has reach. You can strike opponents 15-20 feet away with it, but you can’t use it against adjacent foes or under 10 feet away. You can also use it to make trip attacks. If you are tripped during your own trip attempt, you can drop the Guisarme to avoid being tripped.
Against adjacent foes or with 5 ft. step, you can flurry your prone opponents using your unarmed strike while wielding it (you got your feet, knees, elbows, and head). or power attack them with your large weapon. Whichever is better at the time. I'll leave it up to you.
Large Guisarme: 9 gp, 2d6 ×3, Slashing, reach, trip.
Pick up martial weapon and use a large 2 handed weapon. Use the Guisarme for single strikes to trip while on the move. then move in and follow up with FOB. You threaten 20 ft. Trip them too to help your buddies (use that big bonus). Step up will help you stay close enough. If you can pick following step.
Monk lv1 1: martial weapon, your choice (maybe desperate battler. You get +1/+1 if no allies are around you).
Monk lvl 3: step up
Monk lvl 6: improved trip(Bonus), weapon focus Guisarme
If you get grappled or disarmed (not likely) stunning fist, then recover your weapon.

Pure Dex and wis every thing else at stat 10 and lower. Get an Agile Amulet of Might Fist asap and call it a day. Its very generic but it works when it comes to surviving up to id to high levels while doign moderate damage. If u want to get more fancy and if the classes are allowed id go with a single level of Black-Blooded Oracle with the Mystery that allows u to use Cha instead of Dex for Ac, 2 levels of Paladin for Cha to saves a single level in Cleric and the rest Monk. Stats would be the same as above except its Cha and Wis is ur focus stats and u would need the Guided Hand feat to pull it off to use ur Wis to hit and worship a god that allows Unarmed Strikes as its Favored Weapon.

Below is the route I'm taking with my Monk. Don't ever expect a monk by himself to deal plethoras of damage. If you want damage I don't recommend monks. As everyone else I would recommend a fighter or magus. Personally I'm more of a "pester you to death" kind of player in which I generally tend to draw attacks of opportunity from opponents, trip them, then flurry them. If they try to get away, op attack with the stand still feat, then they stay close by for more flurry of death.
The good thing about this build is you will have seriously high defenses vs trip, bull rush, disarm, melee/ranged attacks, good attack roll bonuses, poor fort save but high reflex and will. Spell resist that basically knocks down spell attacks to a 50% chance to hit for the most part. Immunities to various diseases and poisons. High chance to confirm critical hits.
This monk is meant to draw op attacks(in which he will likely "body twist" off), trip, disarm, and flurry opponents to death. He wields only his unarmed attacks, a sai, and a kama. Weapons with the purpose only for disarming and tripping then following it up with a brutal unarmed attack.
I hope this gives you ideas.
